Re: Official 2008 Fixture

bit jibbed on the 'home' front - to be given primetime fri nites but have NONE of those as ours is a bit short changing.

and two visits to perth?

happened to us a couple of years ago.
the AFL said they were rewarding our solid 2004 season with 6 friday night appearances. 6 away games. only reward was prime time TV, no gate revenue

Re: Official 2008 Fixture

Im happy about 4 games at the G but i would have like if at least 2 were our home games.
Also we should have played Essendon at the G it would have been huge.

Re: Official 2008 Fixture

I'm suprised to see that we're playing the dogs at SS. I kinda liked having both Dog games at the dome.

yeah that's right - everyone's gonna be making money off it 'cept for us FFS!!!!!!

if they hadda given us just one home @mcg v dons or pies it woulda make me feel better.

TD v dons this year was packed and coulda got way more @mcg.

Re: Official 2008 Fixture

Super NAB cup draw opponent wise.

No reason why we shouldn't do really well.

Can't complain about the main draw. For starters you can't gauge how much better/worse some clubs will be. As for home games/interstate game, it's nothing unexpected or out of the ordinary.

A blockbuster v the the pies as an MCG home game would've been nice.

Re: Official 2008 Fixture

TD v Essendon a home game! Haha. Thats funny.

We have to wait a while to play Hawthorn. :thumbsd:

Re: Official 2008 Fixture

Just been looking through this at work with a mate, and the one GLARING thing for me is the first 3 rounds.

You won the grand final by a record margin, yet Port Adelaide get the advantage of a home game for the GF replay in Round 1. Your first "home" game is in Round 2 at the Corporate Dome, then finally in Round 3 you are at Kardinia Park to unfurl the flag.

What sort of respect is this showing the premier ? None at all. You can bet your bottom dollar that if Collingwood or Essendon won the flag then they would get a home game in Round 1 at the venue of their choice.

We're kind of used to being denied any opportunity by our draw by now.

I could not be more annoyed to be honest. Specifically asked for 9 skilled and 2 mcg home games. Not asking much and not tough to arrange. Yet we get THREE home games at the dome. The game V Essendon is particularly ridiculous. WRONG DAY and WRONG VENUE.

There is just not enough opportunity. Play Collingwood, Essendon, Carlton and Hawthorn once. Play Freo twice before we meet Hawthorn. Just pathetic.

Re: Official 2008 Fixture

Like the Anzac Game idea. Good result even if it is on the other side of the country.

Does anyone know the impact prime time TV has on the money sponsors cough up. I am sure the amount of exposure our sponsors get this year because of the free to air stuff increases sponsor $$. Cooky has always said that it is significant but I have never seen an actual $$ figure or % increase.

Free-to-Air coverage is more important to our bottom line. Just look at the Pies. Sponsors will be chasing us and paying us big dollars. 11 matches at night in prime time.

oh no arguments on that - but include a couple as 'home' and the bottom baseline fattens out further.

Next year's draw worries Cats

Next year's draw worries Cats

AFL PREMIER Geelong is disappointed it hasn't been given home games against either Collingwood or Essendon at the MCG in next season's draw.

The 2008 AFL season will kick off with two matches, including Carlton against Richmond, on the Thursday night before Good Friday.

The Blues and the Tigers will meet in a twilight game at the MCG on Thursday, March 20, with a 6.10pm kick-off.

That will be followed by a Grand Final re-match between Port Adelaide and Geelong at AAMI Stadium that night.

But Geelong’s requests for MCG home games were overlooked despite the Cats and the Magpies drawing a crowd of 98,002 in the first Preliminary Final at the ‘G.

While chief executive Brian Cook said the club was “mostly comfortable with the 2008 fixture” from a football perspective, he said the Cats should have been given the opportunity to play in front of home crowds of more than 50,000 in the 2008 home and away season.

The 2007 premiers will play eight home games at Skilled Stadium next season.

“From a commercial point of view the club has some concerns,” Cook said in a statement released by the club.

“As the premiership club we are disappointed that we do not have the opportunity to play a home game in front of a 50,000+ crowd.

“This is because all of our three home games in Melbourne are at Telstra Dome.

“Our two matches against Collingwood in 2007 were amongst the most exciting and best attended matches of the season.

“We are perplexed as to why we face Essendon and Collingwood only once in 2008.” :thumbsd::thumbsd::thumbsd:

Agreed.

Cook also added

"But in thruth we dont give a sh@t cause we won the premiership. However we would have liked to play essendon twice cause they will be really sh@t next year."

You do know that you can say "shit"

Don't be scared now. :)

PS. Very true but.

this will mark the third season in a row that we have played essendon only once. we havent played collingwood twice in a home and away season since 2003:eek: that's crap. considering it is such a high drawing game you would think it would be in the AFL's best interests.

LMAO.. Remember the 'good old days' when you'd rush out and see if you played Fitzroy twice?!!?

Now it's Essendon. (plus Carlton and Richmond too) I'm so happy I could cry.:o

Awesome. I had a scan through the list of games here on BF. For some strange reason I can't concerntrate today.. too tired.

Will see the draw in regular form tomorrow in the paper. :thumbsu:

Hahaha, Richmond and Melbourne are our bitches. Too bad Kent "retired". Woulda been nice to see him have another crack at getting a game, when he played us.

closest Dees will get to a flag since the 60's will be the Skilled unveiling in Round 3. HA!:D

it's nice to be able to crack Premiership jokes for a change rather than absorb them

Yeah I know what you mean, but ease up depending on the team, imo. WC, Sydney, Essendon, Adelaide, etc go for your life.

But Melbourne, Bulldogs... we should all know how they feel and what they are going through. (Exception to that rule is St Kilda but. God I hate them, they can never win a flag for all I care.)

i must admit i feel for those hardly Bulldog souls that have never even seen their team in a GF let-a-lone win a flag. at least, up until this season, we had experienced the joy of Grand Final week knowing our team was competing

Joy?? Is that what you call the lead up to 1994 and 1995 GFs?? Joy??

Imo, it was more like a prisoner on death row waiting for their execution. :(

But yeah, I know what you're saying. 1997 preliminary final I almost cried for them, it was so sad.
