And here's why, all of the talk of being too big for SA, going for national brands, international brands, these are their unique sponsors (ones we don't share)

Adelaide Signs & Graphics
Australian Gas
Bank SA
Beiersdorf Australia
Comwire It
Copyworld
DW Fox Tucker Lawyers
Fielders
Fiveaa
GFG
Haneco
Nova 919
NuSkope
OAK
Peter Jackson
Ray White
Sidewood Wines
Thrifty
Tyrepower

It's hardly the whose who of known brands (there are a few) why? because if you align too closely with Port you risk alienating 70% of the state.

They'll get their government assisted partnerships and the second and third-tier brands that are looking for some/any exposure, but once they have achieved what they can with Port they will dump them and put their dollars into other marketing efforts.

Sponsoring the Crows gets you 70% of the state and of course not all Port supporters will care enough to be put off, there is no risk. That's surely why we get recognised brands and keep them.
Just saying, Beiersdorf is a bloody big brand

Just read this over on the Port Powers board.

Regarding the Borlase situation, just because Adelaide can nominate him under this bizarre interpretation, doesn't mean Borlase Jnr has to accept it does it?

If I get a speeding ticket I'll be sure to tell the police officer that I wont be accepting the demerit points or fine!

Borlase doesn’t have to accept the nomination, no potential eligible draftees have to accept any of the special categories they might fall into; but if they don’t they just enter the draft pool

Does he want to chance his arm in the draft? History shows most guys don’t and prefer the certainty if they are able to get it

My wife hates people saying "The GWS" instead of just "GWS"

And she’s absolutely right to hate it. Its inherently wrong. GWS stands for Greater Western Sydney, so saying “The GWS” is the same as saying “The Adelaide” or “The Hawthorn”. It makes no sense. Gerard Healy is chief offender with this one.

This 2 captains thing is really tearing Port apart, the irony.

This would have to be the funniest part of the whole situation. They sing a song about not being torn apart. They make some big issue about being one club yet it was their strategy to identify themselves separately. And now they are literally tearing themselves apart again over the whole 2 captains concept. You'd couldn't script it better for their Idiocracy... They really are pear..

So long as they win more than Carlton

Port should win a minimum of 6 games this season with probably a maximum of 10.

I think the loss of Polec and Wingard is going to be telling given the new rules and likely increase in the speed of the game.

They're rooted. All they have now are ball buyers. No spenders.

Just look at what losing Smith did to us. Fancy trading out skillful ball users of your own accord... It's not the noughties any more

If Port had their time again they would have kept Polec and Chad over Watts, Slops and Rocks.

For what Port paid to get that trio, these are the repercussions of those poor trade decisions.

From the other board, guess who?

in previous years with guys like Polec, Pittard and Wingard - who are more introverted and mostly kept to themselves - there wasn't that solidarity of singular focus of thought in the playing group, because all of those guys would gravitate towards certain individuals they felt comfortable with in a social setting and not fit in with everyone. Which led to groups forming.

Maybe its not just their HRV levels, its also their personality type that tore them apart!

Kochie’s done a lot to help people understand finance. And if he’s helping them manage their money, that has to be good.

So, why did his links to the business get forgotten?

Trump has done more in 2 years than Obama did in 8. Hopefully Kamala Harris runs as the Dems candidate in 2020 so Trump can be guaranteed an easy re-election.
LOL.

That's just an ignorant thing to say. It doesn't matter what kind of far right politics you might follow in Australia, anyone can see what Obama did and the country he left for Trump.

From the handover, two years ago:

Jobs — The economy has added nearly 2.2 million jobs in the most recent 12 months. It has gained jobs for 75 straight months – the longest streak on record.

President Barack Obama was not so fortunate. When he took office, the economy had already lost 4.4 million jobs in the preceding 12 months.

Unemployment — Obama also leaves Trump an unemployment rate that is well below the historical norm.

Currently it stands at 4.7 percent. In all the months since 1948 the median jobless rate was 5.6 percent.

Thus Trump has been dealt a far better hand than Obama, who took office when the jobless rate was 7.8 percent and rising. It hit a peak of 10 percent in October of Obama’s first year.

Income — In 2015 median household income jumped 5.2 percent — the largest one-year percentage increase since records began in 1967.

Economic Growth — The economy posted six straight years of annual increases in real (inflation-adjusted) gross domestic product under Obama, and almost certainly will post a seventh for his final year; it already posted gains for the first three quarters of 2016.

Corporate Profits — As Trump takes over, corporate profits are running at near-record levels.

Home Values — Trump takes office as sales prices of existing single-family homes finally have recovered from the housing crash, at least in non-inflation-adjusted dollars.

Health Insurance

As Trump takes charge, a lower percentage of Americans lack health insurance than at any time on record — thanks to a program he vows to replace.

Debt – Trump inherits a rising tide of red ink; Obama still boasts of “cutting our deficits by nearly two-thirds,” but the fact is those deficits are growing again and projected to get much worse. And Trump takes office promising large tax cuts and spending increases for infrastructure.

Stock Prices

Trump takes office with stock prices near historic highs, after an eight-year run-up that will be a tough act for Trump to follow.

Under Obama, stock prices set record after record. For example, all three major stock market indexes set recordson a single day, Aug. 15.

Crime

Trump inherits a murder rate that has turned upward, after reaching the lowest point in decades in 2014.

So far, all Trump has done is give tax cuts to billionaires, steal from the middle class, waste time on a wall while the government shuts down, completely ignore climate change and suck up to third world dictators while alienating his allies.

He will clearly be a top five worst president by the time he's done, and America will find it hard to recover from the humiliation.

I still don't get why they're "Greater Western Sydney" instead of just "Western Sydney". Really seems to make it unnecessarily long winded, and it's completely redundant unless the AFL has plans to introduce "Lesser Western Sydney" later on?

I had to look them up when I put the list together, but it sort of aligns with my point (and look it's more of a theory I came up with instead of doing work so it's just that), they aren't aligning one of their brands with Port.

An example I can come up with, maybe just in my mind, and probably too SA for Port anyway, but if Farmers Union were to sponsor them at the highest level it wouldn't do anything to help Farmers Union, I think too much risk that they'd actually turn people off. Especially if they really wanted to push the partnership and use it to market their brand.

If they were to sponsor us (which they do, but more visibly) it probably wouldn't have a negative impact on their sales and they could probably use it to build even more loyalty with a large supporter base.
