Exactly. And like all unlawful entrants they're deported ASAP. And that's why we don't have anyone in immigration detention on Nauru waiting for 5 years because their unlawfulness has already been established under International & local law & the govt can deport them.
keep conflating issues and misrepresenting the law with your loony left rubbish.

We have signed and ratified the UN convention on refugees so that overrides local laws.

unfortunately that is incorrect. ibternational law only operates in australia when there has been enabling legislation bought to parliament and passed by both houses.

There you go. Call them unlawful, call them illegal, whatever, if it suits you. We still have a duty to receive them without penalty and assess their claims for asylum.
still does not alter the fact they illegally/unlawfully entered the country.

If there is one thing I would take from American Politics, it would be that presidential decisions must be ratified by congress and if he/she makes an executive decision, its there for all to scrutinise. Some of you would be like WTAF? how the hell does this relate to Australian politics? Well....

The Australian Parliament lead by Labor, Greens and a few independents voted for a humanitarian approach to an aspect of the current offshore processing by allowing passage to Australia on medical grounds for those currently in detention by Australia, not for future detainees. Now instead of doing the right thing by trying to milk the humanitarian approach and steal some lime light, Scomo decided he was going to race around Australia screaming the 'boats are coming'. This man is our Prime Minister and he is acting like an utter loser screaming from the rafters. The fact he decided to waste millions of dollars on opening Christmas Island detention centre again as part of his scare camping is deplorable and I dare say should be treated as criminal. Its a criminal waste of tax payer money and he should be held to account.

What scares me even more is the amount of stupid voters who believe in the scare campaign. This is why world politics is fu$%^ed and real issues don't get solved. Every year a new low just seems to be reached.

By all means keep arguing about the definition of one word if that passes your time of day.

3/4 year election cycles are the biggest weakness in the western system while simultaneously the biggest strength.

It is a strength because we get rid of the mutts every few years.

However, that means few politicians govern for the long term.

Ultimately it is the voters fault. Howard lined their pockets with tax cuts and middle class welfare for years to pork barell his way into government and now the Aus people think that is their right.

In government, Duty only exists if there is some punishment for non compliance.
Cynical but explains the behaviour of the current lot and no doubt will continue under alp as well.

LOL

**** offfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff

You can imagine him cradling a piece of coal, screaming at the sky "WHY??????"

LOL

**** offfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff

Yeah, go and **** yourself, bitch. You don't get to claim empathy over a situation when you can do something about it. Nor when you go around the country boasting about your record in keeping people on Nauru and not in Australia.

You are ingoring why they are in detention in the first place.

So now this is in the public realm a legitimate journalist needs to ask Morrisson about this incident.

Can he answer with genuine empathy while shouting? Does he blame Labor? When he was on his knees - what did god tell him?

You are ignoring that Scotty cried at them being detained and yet he had the power to release them

Hey Tiny T QC, quick question.
Much like the Migration Act the Social Security Act is an administrative provision.
When a person applies for a govt benefit, the govt backdates payment of that benefit to the date their claim for the benefit was made.
Is that because (a) the govt is generous or (B) the manner in which administrative provisions operate?

There is a clue in there for you.

The USA with Australia blew the living shit out of their countries of origin?
That's what gets me gritting my teeth more than anything , the campaigners who bounced in their seats with glee at that are FUNNILY ENOUGH the most vocal about keeping people in detention.

I wonder why ??
( andrew bolt voice ) HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM ?????......
