Coach James Hird - is it time to give him a second chance at coaching an AFL club? Gil says yes!

Should James Hird be given a second chance at coaching an AFL club?

Anyone with common sense would assume Hird wouldnt make the same mistake again, in any case its clear he still needs to redeem himself in some way but im sure clubs arent scared to hire him in some capacity since his actual knowledge on football is so high.
Depends on what he thinks his mistake was. At the moment it seems he thinks the mistake was getting caught and doesn't believe what they did was wrong.

Probably the reason he was such a great head coach

Why don't Essendon bring him back?
Surely he would be better than any of their current assistants? Most of them seem pretty uninspiring - Skipworth, Harvey, Kelly, Rutten and others I've never heard of.

Then they could orchestrate a transition for him to succeed Worsfold in a year or two.

Sheedy would've only put it on the agenda because Hird wants to get back into coaching.

The bombers chairman has said Hird is welcome at Essendon.
Weird that they haven't.

How is this still up for discussion?
Could you imagine the media storm if he turned up at a club? Forget about whether or not he can coach but imagine the media frenzy at his signing. All of the articles that have nothing to do with footy about your club. The massive build up to the Essendon game all for an assistant coach? It's not even close to worth it

Really? 3 finals in 4 years. Not too bad ay.

Off the back of Matty Knights' list build. Then Hird ****ed it all up and destroyed careers.
Personally I'm disappointed we're not at 30 pages towards the end of the week.
You'll get it there. Every second post is yours.

Its strange the the vast majority of Hirds supporters in this argument are dons fans.....he really hurt your club as coach, set them back and disgraced them. Sure I understand what he did as a player for ya`s, he was a fantastic player a true great but the man brought the sport and particularly your club into absolute shame.

I know people will snap back at me with Cousins related material, and whilst as a player I loved (and always will love him), what he did to our club makes me really angry and ashamed, I hope he gets help (speaking as a caring person) but he hurt our club and I think the Eagles and the broader AFL community have done as much as they could to help him, its up to him now, plus as bad and out of control as cuz was he didnt systematically cheat.

Ipso facto I wouldve though the people least likely to want to see Hird back amongst the coaching circuit would be Dons fans.

This is actually the best pro-Hird point made in the thread.

Most think he was framed or was the fall guy etc. I am married to the enemy (a Bomber). She’s okay on all things Hird but some of her family on this issue are ....a bit bonkers. Worse than climate change deniers
