Coach James Hird - is it time to give him a second chance at coaching an AFL club? Gil says yes!

Should James Hird be given a second chance at coaching an AFL club?

Most think he was framed or was the fall guy etc. I am married to the enemy (a Bomber). She’s okay on all things Hird but some of her family on this issue are ....a bit bonkers. Worse than climate deniers
Yeah, I mean as I said because of what he did as a player I get why some are so cast under his spell.

In the end, he was the HEAD coach and oversaw systematic cheating and tried to wriggle out of it and royally screwed his own club in the long run along the way.

Why don't Essendon bring him back?
Surely he would be better than any of their current assistants? Most of them seem pretty uninspiring - Skipworth, Harvey, Kelly, Rutten and others I've never heard of.

Then they could orchestrate a transition for him to succeed Worsfold in a year or two.

Sheedy would've only put it on the agenda because Hird wants to get back into coaching.

The bombers chairman has said Hird is welcome at Essendon.
Weird that they haven't.
It is my opinion that if in the future he comes back into football the club he's involved with can look forward to more than average visits from the drug testers on the training paddock and post games.
I can't see a majority of clubs wanting to be constantly under the microscope if Hird was involved with them.

In my opinion your opinion is wrong but even supposing that actually happened for a minute, if they weren't doing anything wrong there'd be no cause for concern.

We would only know is they weren't doing anything wrong if given the all clear from the testers on more than one occasion.
Your club will be haunted by the saga for many years to come and in Hirds case for the rest of his life

You just repeated what I said and added some more supposition completely irrelevant to it.

Strange post.

Your defence of Hird is misguided due the the fact that his actions put your club in the biggest scandal football has ever seen.
He was a great player, but as he coach he was below average. I for one hope he never coaches football again at any level.

Tell you what I couldn’t give a shite whether he comes back or not, therefore I’m not on any side of the fence. Because frankly it’s not in our hands to decide. But I think if there is a stampede of ppl who do object such as this thread, then your voices may be heard. In reality though, it won’t be.

Hird only coached one final where his team got flogged by 10 goals
Mighty Tiges...
2010....15th
2011....12th
2012....12th
2013....5th....lost E/F
2014....8th....lost E/F
2015....5th....lost E/F
Great record of Dimmers to start his coaching career don't you think?

Yet Hardwick was actually able to make multiple finals and actually win some unlike Hird

I genuinely can't remember anything Hird did as a player. All I remember of him is getting gifted a job at JBWere, being a shit coach and creating a drug saga.

So Hird's return depends on whether Essendon considers that their coaching list needs to be supplemented.
