To clarify the new overseas quarantine rules, when you land in the country you will now be forced to go quarantine in a hotel that's already been setup by the government, you don't go home first. Quarantine period is 14 days.

Your first port of call in Australia is the place where you quarantine. Eg if you are from Perth and coming back from LA and transiting via Sydney then you do your 14 days of quarantine in a Sydney hotel. You don't get to go back to Perth until you are cleared.

Lessons learned from the NSW ship fiasco

You can see what he is aiming for, saving the economy so when this is over he can puff his chest out, deaths will be collateral damage in that by the looks of it.

Lessons learned that should never really have needed to be learned since it was kind of obvious what would happen. In any group of people there is always a decent sized portion of them who won't do the right thing unless forced to.

You do know there are consequences for people losing their jobs in the thousands that extend into health and well-being right? Like suicide spiking during a mass depression.

Hey Max, this article you posted 6 days ago (and 57 pages ago!!!) appears to have disappeared off the internet. Can you confirm, or find me another copy?

That was the guy modelling potential growth rates.

Probably not because for some reason people are really reluctant to do any forcasting.

Often the models assume zero countermeasures. So you get crazy predictions of millions infected. Unfortunately sensationalism sells.

Right from the get go the average punter on the street was saying, how is this stopping the problem, when the very same people getting off planes or boats were either going to catch a cab, use public transport, have friends or family collect them for the airport, and most likely a lot of them stopping on the way home to get supplies for self isolation. It was never a realistic way to control this situation for people returning or coming to visit. Staggering that the average punter could see this, but not the so called experts.

Understand, but the government can put things in place to ease the burden financially as well, to help people out.

I found another copy which also links to a twitter thread by a biologist refuting the article if you're interested in reading that.

Short version is the article was terrible and the author made lots of rookie errors.

Rebuttal thread is here if anyone wants to read:

Author of rebuttal thread only got half done before the article was pulled by Medium.

Yes but only for a short period of time as its not sustainable, there should be a serious plan to get the economy kick started again as soon as practicably possible once the worst is behind us.
