Why? Pretty sure the biggest increase in revenue into the game came during Carlton's most unsuccessful period in its history.

If you had all of the big 4 Melbourne clubs down, it would have an effect but Carlton could disappear tomorrow and the league would roll on with a slight dip in revenue.

If you're needing the AFL to give your club unsporting advantages to try to manufacture success it doesn't have the character or work ethic to earn itself, you'll need to get behind Geelong, West Coast and all the other non-Melbourne based clubs.

The AFL needs all the big clubs to be good and all the small clubs to be crap even though these were the exact circumstances of the league when it faced financial ruin in the 80s and 90s.
