Yeah let's take a look at those "perennial" bottom of the ladder sides shall we.

9th: Western Bulldogs (made finals last year; made a Grand Final as recently as 2021)
10th:Sydney (made a Grand Final last year)
11th: St Kilda (made finals as recently as 2023)
12th: Carlton (made finals last year; made a Preliminary Final as recently as 2023)
13th: Port Adelaide (made a Preliminary Final last year)
14th: Melbourne (made finals as recently as 2023; won a Premiership as recently as 2021)
15th: Essendon (made finals as recently as 2021)
16th: Richmond (made finals as recently as 2022; won a Premiership as recently as 2020)
17th: North Melbourne
18th: West Coast (made finals as recently as 2020; won a Premiership as recently as 2018)

🙃
lol I like how you just ignored North entirely.

I am more of the Jack Bowes scenario.
A massive contract with no job for him.
Plenty of youngsters to sign up long term.
Bowes was playing VFL basically his entire last year at GC.

Simpkin is a current club captain.

Their situations are completely different, even if Simpkin would ideally like a bit more midfield time than he currently gets.

More talking of ridding themselves of a big fat contract on a player that is surplus to their needs or more so their ambitions going forward for their future.

This is the second time in about 15 minutes I've read the suggestion is O. Henry to St Kilda as part of a trade for Marshall - has that actually been suggested anywhere or any indication of St Kilda/Henry being interested in each other, or is it just fan talk?

I know Henry didn't have the best of times this season & is def down on the form he showed during his first two years in the hoops, but not sure he's someone who's going to be on the outer looking for a new home

He kicked 78 goals from 45 games across his first 2 seasons with us; even more impressive is he kicked 62 of those goals from his first 32 games with us - a big struggle for him seems to have been adapting to his role following the absence of Hawkins

He wasn't at his best this year & form wise it was the right decision to finish the season the VFL - but the 2yr extension he signed earlier in the year is an indication we do see him as part of the team over the coming years. He's not long turned 23, so I doubt we look to move him on this October - more likely we back him in to refind the form we know he's capable of & put him to work for a big summer ahead

My OH for Roma question was 100% hypothetical.

In saying that Gee Class Loco mentioned above that we were perhaps looking to trade players and OH’s name got a mention.

I guess my other question to people would be… if we were required to trade a player of value (I actually do t think OH holds much value)… who would it be?

Because if anyone gets a mention of being traded, there is always blow back on why they wouldn’t/shouldn’t be traded.

Guys like Close, OH and Humphries get mentioned and instantly knocked on the head.

Clohesy/Clark/Knevitt are barely steak knives imo.

If not OH… who else?

Maybe nobody and it’s all about draft picks… as it usual is.

Ditto the Curnow talk. Heard it too many times now from a few folk.
But This!! This!! Is what i heard more than once in the last week or so about JUH.
All i was told is don't believe all u hear about the bloke.
FWIW I am Neither here not there on him personally.
Also here's a few names that have been mentioned that are or will be able to be got if circumstances allow it.
Mitch Knevitt, Ted Clohesy and both Ollies... Henry & Wiltshire.
Kingy going to the Dees opens a door for a few fringe players he has rated highly.
As in TeddyC OllieW Herbert & Murray...
Also. Don't be surprised if we try and trade players rather than picks as i've been led to believe Wells & the scouting team likes whats around after the first round.
Oh just one last thing. Young Jesse Mellor the NGA Geelong Falcon? Gonna be RIPPER!!
Cheers Boys!! Good luck to the boys on Friday Night!!

Would love to have snaffled up Murray as he's had a great year, but we already have a logjam of small-medium forwards. Would be handy for a lot of other teams, though.

Complete hypothetical.

Roma for Ollie Henry.

Who here wouldn’t bite St Kilda’s arm off for that deal?

Honestly not a massive fan of Henry, but I’d rather have him long-term than a 28/29 year old Liam Ryan.
RoMa fours years of above average vs OH 8 years of average I’d say yes to that.

Best we keep Holmes happy as Im sure he’d be taking unders and would be probably pushing 1.5mill offers if OOC.

Farm land and CottonOn is a good thing.

Important to win the flag this year for Holmes and a few of the other young guys to stick together moving forward. A premiership medal is the glue that keeps the show on the road for us.

Comfortable with O.Henry for Marshall if Curnow is coming.

More worried about what we'd need to pay for Curnow...

Yeah I’d love Curnow.
Can’t see anyway it can happen and us still hold any amo for other targets in our sky rocket for years.

Very doubtful unless Cartank decided to take crazy pills or get keen on our spuds and dud picks… yeah crazy pills required.

Honestly, I don't know how it even gets done or how we fit these guys into our salary cap, but if we could snag Worpel, Marshall, and Curnow this trade period, then I will 'dibbs me hat' to the genius of Mackie & Wells.

I think Worpel is a lock (by the sounds of it), and Marshall is likely. But Curnow? Not sure about that.

No chance. North dont have cap problems like gc did they are not giving picks with Simpkin

Could you imagine the industry wide melts if we traded for Charlie Curnow?

There is no chance unless we give up Holmes or neale (and we wont). Curnow will nicely be told by his manager that Geelong can't get it done and will be "advised" to pick gc or Sydney instead.

Yeah, not a chance in hell he's at the Cats next year. That ship has well and truly sailed.

Should have made himself a FA if he wanted to come here.

Everyone said that about Collingwood and Houston but they got it done. If he demands to get to Geelong and we really want him we'll get it done with picks and fringe players but it'll cost us a lot of picks.

I think Jhye Clark 13 has some insight on this situation?

If so, does this correlate?
His preference has always been Geelong and that's where his heart was, but last i heard he was leaning towards the dogs due to the gap in salary. It was substantially more.
