Cal Twomey's October rankings are out:

He has Max at 25 (down from 23), and one Harry Kyle now in at 27

He's even speculated Harry might get bid on ahead of Max, and has also made the Callaghan comparison (maybe he's lurking around here somewhere!)

He's not had Carmichael in his top rankings all year

Also had a quick look through the RMC draft profiles to see where they have the Academy guys' draft ranges:

King 15-30

Carmichael 20-30

Kyle 25-40

Chamberlain 35-50
We have enough points really to take 3 in ND.

Worst case we get a fringe upside bid in early 20s as long as we have the point to match the first round bids. Moving your future second back if you are in deficit is no big deal.

Also we will just trade a future 4th for a pick in this draft that a team won’t use but will have points after all the suns and blues and lions picks are matched.

I think chamberlain and the other one who’s name I have momentarily have forgotten will be rookied.

Statistically your using a sample size of 4 games compared to what 10 years of SANFL. There is a legit statistic seen in the screenshot below View attachment 2463435
What you're not taking into account is the number of free kicks that are paid by umpires for "insufficient intent". In those 4 games I watched, there were at least 5-6 free kicks paid by the umpires.

With GCS needing to probably use all their picks of 15 through to 36 for early bids on their two academy guns together with Brisbane using both 17 & 23 on Annable, I see our picks 31 & 32 improving by 4 spots prior to us needing to use them.

This is an esoteric question. But if GC use pick 20 worth 500 points (example only). Then you have pick 20 after it gets used it’s also worth 500 points….

There is actually a never ending total points available…..

Assuming Uwland gets a bid at 2 and Patterson at 5, they will need 3,848 points after their discount. Their current picks are 15, 18, 24, 28, 29 and 36. All of these picks total 3,731. Their next pick is 52 which is only worth 42 points. As a result, they would need to go into a minor deficit for 2026 and they would have no way of matching a bid on their third academy player - Addinsall.

I hate myself for sounding like Bedders, but shouldn't the "who is playing our 2nd ruck role next year" be on another thread? I came here to see if there was any draft info this morning and had to scroll through numerous posts about the subject which has no relevance. It is the same subject being discussed in the CC thread, so maybe it belongs there?

Wow. I need a coffee. I can't believe I just wrote that...
It should be on the whos on second base whats on third comedy section. Still makes me laugh to this day. The Abott and Costello skit

I think the rule is it comes off your best future if you don't have enough points.
I could be wrong though.

Lions to rookie Lincoln McCarthy. I would 100% swoop before them.

It makes no sense that Thredgold is behind King and Kyle. He is as athletic as the other 2 , 195cm tall, has excellent disposal, is an excellent mark, and and has lashings of footy smarts.

All subjective

This one from 3 weeks ago (not Cal's) had Thredgold above King, Carmichael and Kyle at 37. Same with the Code one, who didn't have Kyle in their Top 40.

Looking like we get our academy kids.

What a draft !

What a great time to be alive !

I wouldn't be saying this is a poor draft in the slightest.

King - An absolute bargain in the 20's and probably the most athletic specimen in the draft, Sydney have moved him around A LOT this year so he hasn't been able to get settled on a position (Don't be surprised if this was by design to get him to move down the draft order, his VFL game was exceptional before being pulled from the bench and thrown around the ground a bit).

Kyle - Late developer, athletic beast, really showed a lot this year and main thing holding him back is previous years of runs on the board. A few people are starting to get very excited about him and he has the physical traits of a top 10 pick. (I expect he won't be a rebounding defender forever, I imagine he will get ingrained with the midfield).

Carmichael - Not 100% why he is so low down the order, was the MVP for NSW at the under 16's carnival and repeated that this year, proven leader at junior level at one and has stepped up to the plate at every level of football he has played in (Including racking up 15 disposals and 6 tackles in just over a half in his one VFL game this year). The type of player who just doesn't do a lot wrong, is incredibly consistent and always a top performer.

One small weakness in his game is he doesn't get a tonne of contested ball (But that is more of the role he has played off HBF, and when he was thrown into the midfield for NSW this year he got a BOG performance in a hybrid inside/ outside role).

I'm honestly super excited about our three prospects, and can see Carmichael possibly even slotting straight into our team next year.

Lions to rookie Lincoln McCarthy. I would 100% swoop before them.

His 32 years old, had multiple injuries and is coming off an ACL (which whilst not being the death sentence it was, is still a hard rehab).

I wouldn't run the risk, instead I would back in our talent.

If we had a free list spot, this guy sounds very interesting:

Bryce Sanders
State: South Australia
State League Club: North Adelaide
Community Club: Modbury
Date of Birth: 11/05/2007
Height: 197cm

Tall defender who spent the early part of the year playing forward and ruck before grasping the opportunity down back when an injury opened a spot for South Australia in the National Championships. Sanders used his physicality and skill to match the opposition’s key forwards and looked very composed and unflustered in defence. Was at his best against Western Australia in the 76-point victory which helped set up the title win. Sanders continued to hone his tall defender craft at under 18 level with North Adelaide, having an outstanding game against eventual premier Sturt in Round 13 when he amassed 26 disposals and 12 marks.Sanders tested very well at SA State Combine, with his running vertical jump of 87 cm and speed of 3.01 seconds for the 20 metre sprint both assets for a player of his position and size.

Could always play a variety of roles in VFL, then if defence is determined his best spot, switch there full time after Rampe and Hamling finish up (causing a cascade of open spots). Might just settle forward too.
