I read this article yesterday in a “hard copy” newspaper. Says that Louis is a die hard port fan, and tevita used to be a crows fan but has recently switched to port. Both dads were positive about the opportunities their boys have to be picked as father son but also pragmatic enough to realise it may not happen. Sounded very positive for us though.

Sounds like both lads are positive about the importance of father son lineage and don't want rules changed

Yep, in an increasingly bland AFL landscape, where clubs are forced from on high to be more and more cookie-cutter franchises, Father-Sons are one of the remaining parts that needs to stay at all costs.

Academies etc. can be wound back concessions, but I always like seeing Father-sons running around, even for other clubs.

My only frustration has been we haven't had a gun one or KPP's yet (but looking promising coming up).

How does Essendon have access to Tevita when Rodan didn't play for the Bombers?
He was born in Egypt?

PS: From the 'Tiser article:
Tevita was an Adelaide fan before switching recently to the Power. He started playing with Aberfeldie under-9s, then progressed to Vic Metro and Calder Cannons, where his dad won two Morrish Medals (2000, 2001) as the best player in the Victorian under-18 competition. Rodan being born in Fiji qualifies his boys for Essendon’s James Hird Academy.

Exactly- David Rodan could have been born on the Moon (an Essendon recruiting zone because Sheedy invented it) but once he played 100 games for Port his sons should be purely Port F/S. This idea of “dual academy citizenship” is an anathema.

Would be an honour to play for an academy named after a drug cheat.

It's another VFL rort as Fiji wasn't even a Next Gen Academy zone. It might still not be as they were only considering expanding the qualification area to include Pacific Islands in mid-2025.
