I would have had him forward a fair bit anyway, with Rozee at half back. Just so we don't have to move Butters, Bergman, Wines, Drew, Brodie etc to spots where they don't fit.

I'm not seeing how you play Wines, Drew and Brodie in the same midfield.

All great sides are won from the back half and defensively, the Forwards kick a goal and get their name in the paper, the little things you can do to put some credibility on the Back Six is putting them out of their misery at selection and having them know where they are playing first.

My understanding is that he can run all day and rack up the possessions.

I re-watched the first half of the internal trial without interruption and except for 6-10 errant kicks that did seem like early year cobwebs, I liked what I saw. Good balance of defence and offence, care with the ball and run and gun. The two skills that stood out to me were quick but more importantly accurate release of handball and chiseling low 25-35 m passes cutting across angles through the middle of the ground.

Liked Brodie, Berry, Drew, Lorenz (some great things), Lord, Marshall, Barrett, the list goes on. Mead looked a different player.

Keen to see how it looks against real opposition this week.

I don't have any stats to back this up but it has felt like when you see us play poorly in a pre season game it is a little bit of the old "hello darkness my old friend" playing in the background.

I genuinely believe it will be the opposite, North Round 1, Essendon Round 2, Wet Toast Round 3, we will hit the ground running and be sitting too after Round 3. Shoot then Richmond Round 4. The enthusiasm is infectious, there is zero doubt the blokes we have got in are Winners, Dew, Collins, Reeves, Webster, it is how we battle through adversity that will be our true challenge. This group has been so driven on emotion for so long, they may regret back to status quo once someone dents our momentum, Carr can’t unteach that without facing it head on himself with the lads.

Can we afford that with our fixture? I think those first 5 games will shape our entire season. We should be aiming for 5 and 0, to give us the confidence and platform for the rest of the season when the fixture gets more difficult.

I just don't think we can afford to be slow out of the blocks and losing the games we should be winning early.
