The AFL just announced that if Rankine is out injured it won't count as one of his suspended games wtf???
Before I saw this was a joke I was ready to rage like that angry panda gif

Yeh so he wont play unless needed. We dont want another situation where ROB is injured and McAndrew is needed in the AFL and we have no SANFL ruck. Like in 2018 when we recruited that Tassie ruck halfway through the SANFL season.

Im sure he will have a cub that he plays for when not required for SANFL. As im sure Drury does.

So the captain won’t be playing unless needed and will be at another club?

Personally think the length of pre season in AFL is stupid, doesn't it effectively start in November and run through to March? Why not just extend the season by 4 additional games at that point.

Ive heard it said that the intensity of the season doesn't allow for much more than recovery / maintenance training. You can't, for example, pack on KGs on a developing player in season.

The time to craft the physical tools is important.

A month ago we were fit and firing.

Feels like we’ve tweaked or pushed something because our boys are dropping like flies now - Ah Chee, Cumming, Hinge, Rankine, Soligo.

(I’m not counting Draper)

Yeah we’re into more match sim and game play, but that should be factored into the program.

Feels typically Adelaide in that we get our fitness humming and then bloody Juventus poaches our man. Seriously.

And that’s why the 3 weeks before a 3 week break at Xmas is dumb

Ngl, this season is already feeling cursed.
Lucky the real test comes in September and not March. We were firing early last year and they led to our worst finals series performance in living memory.

Maybe if we can get enough wins on board without a few players they'll carry some momentum later.

Yeah pretty much. People will cope and say we'll have some fresh players in the back half of the season but it won't matter if things keep going like this.

There's no excuses for me this year, if the squad want it enough they should be able to cover for some injuries at the start of the year and the coaches need to earn the paycheck. My concern has always been the coaches and whether they are able to be creative to cover for this.

This is why even when you have a good run of injuries like last year, fixating on continuity is so short sighted.... Why don't we even know if Edwards can play, why did Dowling only play 1 game...

The question is idiotic. “Is it luck or is it Burgess” is flawed because Rankine has done hammies under Burgess. You’re just being hysterical.

Geez.. are you and Kane hanging out and working yourselves up?

Really don't see any hysteria. Just an observation that we had a world class fitness guru in charge of and have been really healthy over the past 4 years - especially at the beginning of the year.

Then our guy gets poached by Juventus. Now this preseason we have a lot of reports about injuries - Curtin, Keane, Draper, Rankine, Ah Chee, Soligo, Cumming and Hinge all have question marks a month out.

Now with a month to go - all but Curtin and Keane could pull up perfectly fine and we go into Rd 1 looking like we have the past 4 seasons. Hope that is the case, but as of mid-feb its worth conversation.

I mean - how good is Burgess? Or is it luck?

Seems a crazy coincidence.

Rankine has had Hammy issues his whole career. 2019 missed his planned debut due to a hammy. In 2023 and 2024 he missed with Hammy issues.

But we also have to remember where he came from. He shifted from the forward pocket to the midfield in 2023. The fact for someone so explosive was limited to being a forward pocket in his juniors could mean he had problems with his hammys back then and due to the nature of juniors he could miss parts of training and logically still play.

He is likely to be a player who simply always will miss games with hammys in his career. Its not always the fitness coaches fault. A sign its the fitness program is multiple players getting hammy issues.

It's a sad state being a crows supporter, where this seems totally like something the AFL would do to us

I think the fact anyone would believe something so obviously a joke shows how delusional some people are when it comes to the AFL (or media) bias against us.

Ok he wasn’t captain when I said this. It was literally just announced. Of course now he plays.

He didn’t need to be captain to see what was obviously going to happen. He was always going to be playing, captain or not. What’s your view now, happy with him taking ruck minutes from McAndrew and the forward/rucks and clogging up the forward line with Murray, Maley & Ludowke. Add Welsh and there’s not much opportunity for mid/forwards to develop.

Ludo plays back early IMO.

Yep we are going to be way too top heavy now.
