The 'outrage' here is that the US have once again determined that the have an unalienable right to bring about regime change.

Their success rate is frankly shit in that department.

And in Iran they have had their hands all over the last 70 years.

Face value - no problem with the objective of removing a regime that’s effectively stood over the regime and caused chaos for the last 20 years.

But on a deeper level, I see a real problem here. Trump has no concern for second or third order effects. Does it make the region safer long term? We can’t know. Does it continue to re-legitimise the use of force as a foreign policy tool? Probably. Does it diminish US war stocks at the detriment of any potential flashpoint in our region? Almost certainly.

I’m also worried about Trump and the allure of the success of the military. He likes institutions that ‘win’ for him. Does he continue to look for more global opportunities to ‘win’ against those who would seem to oppose him?
