air to air combat is rare, agreed.

air to ground is where wars are won.

You own air space you win wars. Its that simple.

Countries like US, China etc are investing heavily in Gen 6 fighters for a reason, not just because they liked the movie Topgun.

Missiles & Drones are largely useless if you don't own the airspace. They just get intercepted or at least the far majority do.
When was the last time a war was won?

With Khamenei dead one would feel the US will back off with the strikes and let the CIA do its thing. They’d have their preferred leaders briefed and ready to go. BTW hopefully the war criminal Netanyahu and members of his cabinet are next (some sort of 20 July plot would be ideal).
Would be useful to have Voice of America still up and broadcasting. :rolleyesv1:

The more I read about Iran’s geography, the more I think this shitshow will not end quickly. They are a far thornier proposition than Iraq ever was.
True. It's very mountainous. With different climates in each corner of the country. Was watching a video about why the south of Iran is so sparsely populated and it's because it's one of the hottest places itw, with no suitable sites for a port city.

this climax has been brewing ever since Iran started threatening Israel like 1.5 years ago

what I dont get is why is Iran just attacking everyone in the region. just swinging on the way out?

Bringing them all in to share the pain, maybe rethink their pressure on the US to act against Iran.
They are Arabs, Iranians are Persians. The Gulf States have been showering the Trump Gang with cash.

they are all going to choose the USA over Iran even without getting bombed.

The fact Iran is bombing them all is just stupid as ****.

There was a US article yesterday which complained that the Gulf States were supportive of US strikes on Iran privately, but refused to support it publicly.

Iran knows the Arabs hate them and are working with the US. It's only the public which is surprised Iran is striking at their closest enemies.

The only way to invade is via the Persian Gulf and it would have to be a very sturdy supply chain to reach central Iran.

Meanwhile, Pakistan is lost to the US, Iraq is lost to the US.

They will all know not to let it get to war, but the US is no longer welcome throughout a large part of the region which, only about 10 years ago, they were practically free to roam across Pakistan, Iraq and Afghanistan. Those areas will now completely align with China, isolating India in a big way.

The US will not have a puppet in Iran that will last. Just like their puppets didn't last in Iraq, Afghanistan or Pakistan.

They had all already chosen that. Iran is just trying to make them pay and letting them know that they know they're enemies.

The rationale behind the Saudi attacks seems bizarre as the Saudis specifically did not allow any US military operations against Iran to be conducted from Saudi territory.

They made a big point about this publicly and MBS even phoned Khamenei advising Saudi's position.

Attacking UK bases in Cyprus also not a smart move.
Who knows who is really behind or played their part in some of the reported attacks on other countries in the region.

dunno, the rumours circulating in the media are that MBS advocated or at least agreed for the US to attack Iran.

Seems no one is a fan of Iran.

Internal slaughter often fails to get the same publicity as invading and slaughtering civilians in other countries. There's a pretty big media blackout in Iran so there's very limited verifiable details. Plus, Iran's regime is no ally of Australia so our government isn't really doing anything to defend their actions or trade with them.

But of course you have chuds pretending it's only because of Jews.
We kicked out all the Iranian diplomatic staff a few months back on very sketchy allegations, almost like there was a plan here.

US simps since the last time they regime changed us

Why would the US need his agreement?

They didn't launch from Saudi Arabian territory.

Disagree. Name one war/operation when this has worked

It's quite the opposite.
These missiles are cheap compared to a jet, they have got fancy terminal guidance stuff and you can't intercept them at any kind of high probability.
That means you can always do significant damage without air superiority. Hence it works as a good deterrence, which is the point of most countries 'defence forces'

Rumours? Iran and Saudi Arabia's proxies have been fighting each other in Yemen (next door to Saudi) for a decade.

No secret the Saudis (Sunni-ish) want to rid the region of the Iranian (Shi'a) to exert their own dominance in the region.

Sneaky underdog support for Iran is strong in here...
It's not underdog support. It's hoping the US doesn't keep doing this all over the world. Killing people and creating instability for their own benefit and to the death of millions of people.

When did Russia eject Iranian embassy staff?
