Because the EU/US released a big chunk of the strategic oil reserve. They can't do that a lot of times. You can see the pause in the spike in 2022 when they did it as well. They did it then at the $90 mark as well. There's still a lot of hope that this will end soon. The down-side risk of the Straits being closed for another week is huge.

Nobody seems able to put themselves in the place of Iranian leadership fighting for survival. Oil revenue is a secondary thought to survival

Not good news for the Iranians who were thanking Trump for bombing their country as a pathway to freedom. I have seen some reports from inside Iran after that Trump post saying there had been blackouts and that the electricity grid had been bombed.

Trump got the oil price to drop when he told a CBS journalist in a phone interview.
"the war is very complete, pretty much. They have no navy, no communications, they’ve got no Air Force.”

Then he did his press conference and was, as per usual, all over the place.


Trump needs some sort of victory statement to get US out the war. Just seems like a warning to stabilise the oil price - let the ships through the straits or we'll bomb you into oblivion - but there's no indication of there being anything that Iran can agree to.

Everything points to the same theory people had on Day 1, that Netanyahu convinced Trump there was a short easy regime change war that could be won if they tagged team to bomb Iran.

That would seem like the same tactic as the previous policy of Israel in Gaza, the so-called "mowing the lawn" approach. Bomb them to the point that they'll need a few years to get back to being a threat.

Iran's only security will be to have nuclear weapons, the other justification US/Israel had for starting this war, but they've given no indication they know how to destroy Iran's nuclear capability or where to find it, despite announcing last June during the 12 day war that Iran's nuclear enrichment capabilities had been...in Trump's words "obliterated".
