Autopsy Autopsy vs Carlton

Love it! Just be aware, that being spoken about positively is not a good thing according to some posters (not talking about you Ferball). I don’t think North has ever been hated the way *, Collingwood and Geelong are hated. I made a comment that it was nice people were talking about us because we showed something not the usual narrative about how crap we are. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion though.

What was it like in Carlton coaches box?

Yep - I get that we want to be hated again but I for one was happy to bask in the glory for good, for once.
Its cool for now.

Our time is coiming tho and when it does people will have 90s PTSD relapses.

I watched the last quarter again and counted 6 smothers. Wouldn’t be too many teams that have ever done that
It doesnt come up as a stat but Colby led the way I reckon with the first smother in the last, which then saw more smothers from Zurharr (who owed us), Stephens (who owed us) and Georgie.

Clarko rev up 100% worked.

I assume he doesn't get a stat for it but I lost count of the number of times Wardlaw got a finger in to strip or at least disrupt the possession of the ball carrier? Amazing stuff
Darling in the last 2 minutes alone probably matched George in these efforts.

Both of them were just ruthless, relentless, rabid animals.

It would've been repeated already but the individual efforts in those last five-ten minutes are just brilliant. Wardlaw's smother, tackles, and hard-ball wins, Stephens' smother, Duursma's smother, Trembath's tackle on the wing, Corr's spoil, Parker and LMac locking down a McKay half-chance, Daniel mowing down Jagga after getting a bad bounce, Darling with about five different moments.

I don't know why this has been missing for so long, but that is the shit that will move the needle for us. I'd love to see it become a regular thing. To see them learn to enjoy defending. The feeling of unity it brings. The feeling of being part of something collectively great. I'd say across the board of the sporting arena, defence wins championships. If we can grasp that, we are well on our way.

More. Please

Being at the game live you see more. How Zurharr was down for 1 tackle is beyond me. I saw at least 3. What constitutes a tackle ? Parker easily had more than 3. He had 2 in 5 secs at one stage

Can’t underestimate the value of a win like that for this club. My kid had pretty much switched off from footy last couple of years, but we were away in a small hotel room on the weekend where the footy telecast was pretty much unavoidable for him. Took the odd look up from his phone to the tv screen during the first three quarters, and then was quickly drawn in during the last. By the end he was jumping up and down, and has not stopped watching youtube highlights and replays in the days since. Has also for the first time in forever asked if we can go to the next Melbourne game. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that was being repeated across a lot of families, and reflects that there’s likely a whole generation of young and almost ‘lost’ North Melbourne supporters that can still be won back to the club with performances like that.

If you tackle a player and the ball comes loose and another oppo player gets or even touches it I don't think it counts. Its sposed to be just preventing a legal disposal but it doesn't seem to add up if you just take that definition.

Clarko and Voss must have been going beer for beer with me on Friday for no George votes
They could've been sharing horse tranquilizers and I still wouldn't understand it.

Can't remember the last time a North player got this much praise in the media for a game-saving performance. To not have that reflected at all in the coaches votes makes no sense at all.

Probable Sleepy Al vote allocation
5 Daniel
4 LDU
3 Stephens
2 FOS
1 Trembath

Probable Crazy Vossy vote allocation
5 Daniel
4 Trembath
3 Ainsworth
2 Elijah Hollands
1 Oliver Hollands

Bonkers stuff.

Coaches are gonna vote for the players who best implement their systems while playing good footy because coaches will believe its their systems that ultimately win the games.

(Its probably why Daicos gets so many votes from McRae - he's built his game plan around Daicos' mobility and ball use.)

George's desperation is incredible but Daniels made stupidly good spoils (for a short arse,) run down tackles and other desperate moves that saved probably goals as well over the course of the game.

Still thought it would be worth at least one vote tho.

Good points. I also find it a little easier to understand the tally if I assume Voss is giving his own players a disproportionate level of recognition. (If Clarko thinks the Hollands bros or Ainsworth were more influential than Wardlaw, goodness gracious me.)

Yes, I've always been scared of....uh.... Ben Ainsworth
