06 Eagles vs 07 Geelong

Who would be the victors out of these two great sides? Back in the day when the eagles had the ultimate midfield in Kerr, Cousins, Judd and Cox, or would the generally awesome stars of Geelong get them over? Its such a shame we never got to see them battle it out in the 07 finals, would have been awesome stuff.

Geelong easily.

And it is no shame that West Coast didn't make it to the prelim as at least Collingwood gave Geelong a contest. Eagles would have been smashed on their 07 form.

I reckon we would have given it a good go if we hadn't had so many injuries in the 07 finals. No Cousins, Judd and Kerr was too much for us, even though we only just lost our two finals.

I would give Geelong an edge at the MCG though. Both superb midfields, but Geelong weren't as damaging then as they are right now. Selwood, Ablett and others have all improved since then. And two good defences as well, would have made scoring difficult for the two forward lines, which weren't particularly strong.

I'm going with the Eagles by a nose. What tips them over the edge for me is that they did it against better opposition. It's not Geelong's fault, but they didn't have to beat anyone. West Coast did. They may not make a lot of sense to anyone, but.....whatever. It's an opinion.

West Coast beat better opposition in 2006 than Geelong did in 2007. BUT, Geelong won accordingly, by 119 points. If we'd played a fully fit Eagles outfit, we might have won by 4 - 6 goals. Don't forget that while the Eagles would have had an edge in the midfield, we would have a significant edge everywhere else on the park.

Geelong smashed West Coast just before finals in 05, and were smashing them in 2006 before that massive once in a blue moon fade. If our 05/06 sides were comparable, our 07 side would have given them a touch up. Our backline and forward line was superior back then to what it is now too.

And the Cats have proved that they can win games without key players such as Gazza, Ottens, Chapman, and the like.

Geelong's best 22 in 08 or 09 are better than the Weagels in 05 or 06.

Port may not have been the better opposition but anyone who can make it in the top four and inturn to the grand final is a good team..

Credit where credit is due buddy. There is a reason why we won the 06 premiership. That game we won fair and square, it wasn't just a "massive once in a blue moon fade".

This is evidenced by us repeating a similar feat not long after.

Lol - you only just beat us and we where pretty crippled at the time. Teams have been using Collingwood to make and win Grand finals all this decade

I'd say Geelong. The more complete side. West Coast's forward line was basically Quinten Lynch.

West Coast would win in the midfield, but Geelong's back six would be far too strong for our forward.. whatever shape it was.

Geelong's best 22 in 08 or 09 are better than the Weagels in 05 or 06.

Rowan Jones was certainly not a passenger. He was a very very team-oriented player, always made a block or a shepherd. We need someone like him now really.

Would have been a top game to see though.

Geelongs backline is comparable to our 06 backline, Geelongs backline is probably one player better. Our forward lines are comparable, basically on par I think. We would of had the better midfield though, just as much top end talent Judd, Cousins and Kerr and our B graders are better in Chick, Stinga, A.Selwood and Embley.

Being totally unbias I believe we would of gotten up and won if fully fit. We have the wood over the Cats when it comes to grand finals

Atleast do a little re-search mate. In 07 we missed Cousins for a huge period of time, Kerr for a few games through injury and suspension and had Judd at half pace because he had OP, Judd also missed a few games. We even missed Cox for 5 games straight.

We could deffinately win without the big 3. Whats happened now is that our structure has fallen in a heap, we had structual players like Braun, Chick and Rojo (all midfielders) who have retired to go along with Cuz and Judd which is why we aernt as competetive.
