Tom FC,

Some big changes there !! (sarcastically)

That's exactly the same ladder as last year (more or less)

Be a little bold. There are always a few changes......one or two of them major ones. Still, it's your ladder.

1 Essendon - Still feel shortchanged. No weak links.
2 Melbourne - Yound talented list. Will be better for the experience of 2000 GF.
3 Brisbane - Unlucky with injuries. Talented list and Mal Micheal fills the gap up back.
4 North - Still strong. Refreshed their list well after losing bell.
5 Hawthorn - Always improving. Have played together for a few years now.
6 St Kilda - Never seen such quality recruiting. Blight is the man to harness it.
7 Carlton - Hamill will hurt. But still have Kouta to get back and expect Fevola to step up. Play too good a brand of footy not be there.
8 Richmond - Same commitment next year, with Richo and D.Kellaway back, will see them over the line.
9 Geelong - Lack a few key players. But will be honest and need White to have a big year to get there.
10 West Bull - List has gone stale.
11 Sydney - Not enough options up forward.
12 Adelaide - Again, lack key position players.
13 Freo - On the improve. Got some talent. Need to develop more consistency though.
14 Port Adel - Just don't rate them. Not enough support for Tredrea.
15 Coll - Will Improve. Getting to know each other now and have recruited reasonably well. Didak, looks the goods.
16 West Coast - Back to the drawing board for Judgey. Will start to rebulid this year.

I'm Kent Brockman, and this is my two cents.

1. Essendon
2. North Melbourne
3. Hawthorn
4. Geelong
5. Melbourne
6. Carlton
7. Sydney
8. Brisbane

9. Richmond
10. St. Kilda
11. Footscray
12. Fremantle
13. West Coast
14. Adelaide
15. Collingwood
16. Port Adelaide

Ok everyone has put their 2 bits in, and so will i

1.Essendon (Only an idiot would say otherwise)
2.Brisban (Sleeping Giant)
3.Melbourne (Strong list)
4.Hawthorne (Simply have to make their move)
5.Richmond (Will they finally realise potential
6.Carlton (Sure they lost a few ,1 word Kouta)
7.Kangaroos (Hmm not sure, but on the slide)
8.Doggies (Aging list, see above)
9.Geelong (They'll be apriel premires again)
10.Fremantle (Maybe 8 chance, still a year off)
11.Saints (Still have my doubts)
12.Sydney (I dont know)
13.West Coast (Lost big in trading, no forwards
14.Adelaide (Hmmm seem old faces, no forwards
15.Collingwood (Poor buckly)
16.Port (Saints of last year)

But then again who knows

Not sure bout
SYD
FREO
SAINTS

Expact big moves from Hawthorne and Brisban
Expect slides from the doggies,kangaroos and west coast

Power sides of the 90'
But the the 00's

sabre_ac is very confused about the age of crows list. Its actually their youngest side ever in 2001. The only truly 'old' player is Jarman, and he never did rely on pace anyway.

As for forwards, Crows have picked up Hewitt who is keen to try at least to fill the Crows CHF spot. Welsh, Vardy, Jarman and Bode are all good finishers. Might even pick up a dedicated FF yet, we've yet to see how that pans out. Crows have also made a very good addition to their coaching staff.

Crows to improve a few place in 2001, rather than go backwards.

As for the remainder of the ladder, Essendon & Dees probably a bit ahead of a good amny other more-or-less even teams. West Coast, Collingwood and possibly Power to be a little behind the pack perhaps.

Thats about as good an idea as anyone could possibly have at this stage anyway.

Well Dan24, I don't know if there's really any point in making predictions based on 'a hunch' (Richmond, Bulldogs), because of a new coach (St.Kilda), because a side lacks 'class' (Hawthorn, Geelong). What the hell does class mean anyway? It's just one of those terms commentators bandy about. And then, because Brisbane seem 'un-harmonoous' (sic)What is that based on, whatever that word means? Or that Carlton will fail because 'injuries could cripple them'. Well they could cripple any side in the league, couldn't they?

All right, so I'm not very adventurous, but really, how can you be?

I don't usually make predictions but because most of the people here have put their reputations on the line, I will give it a go.

1) Essendon
2) Melbourne
3) Carlton
4) Western Bulldogs
5) Hawthorn
6) St Kilda
7) Kangaroos
8) Richmond
9) Brisbane
10) Sydney
11) Geelong
12) Adelaide
13) Port Adelaide
14) Fremantle
15) Collingwood
16) West Coast Eagles

A few points:-

- I have put the saints 6th. The new coach and significant recruits will give the side a new look. The best thing about our recruiting is that we have managed to bridge the gap between older and younger players. Backline is still a little vulnerable and will require Hall and Gehrig to play in defence. Still, after finsihing last, I am just hoping for an improvement. Making the 8 would be unbelievable.

- Essendon and Melbourne are again the teams to beat in 2001. Injuries to some of their crucial players could have a marked effort on their premiership aspirations however they deserve to be the top two favourites.

- Carlton are being underestimated a little. Apart from losing Hamill and possibly Silvagni, this is close to the same team that until late in the year, were very threatening and had the potential to worry the bombers.

- The Western Bulldogs are probably the most underestimated team. People have mentioned that they have an aging list, yet they have embarked on a youth policy over the past few years. Any team with players like Grant, West, Johnson, Darcy, Smith, Brown etc, can not be forgotton.

- Richmond were one of the success stories of 2000 despite not making the 8 and will go at least one better this year. Could even finish higher.

- All doesn't seem well up in Brisbane. They still have considerable talent although I think they may just miss the 8.

- Sydney and Geelong are a little lower than I would have liked to have put them. Sydney could very well have been finalists this year and they should only improve. I was not particularly a fan of Geelong's recruitment of mature age players. I realise they have a young list but to go for only one youngster is something that I don't believe in.

- You can pretty much expect that one or two of the teams expected to finish near the bottom will make the 8. Perhaps Adelaide are the team that I have placed close to the bottom that might surprise.

CrowsOK

Who are your leaders?
What up and coming young stars are on your list?

You may have a young side on paper but the crows still rely largely on the same old players
Bickleys,Jarmans and richioto's

I'll give you burton

On to the forward line
You have NO key position player in your forward line.
Vardy was about to be traded due to his inconsitency.
Jarman is on his last legs.
Hewitt couldn't get a game with the Kangaroos,but with Carey and Mc Kernan in the team thats not too bad.Putting your faith in him is another story
Your forward line is weak.Wether you can see it or not is another matter.

When I think of a young side, I also think of a talented young side.
Ie Melbourne
Saints:Now
Collingwood
Fremantle

Don't really have time to predict a whole ladder just yet, but here's a few points.

ptw- We're going to slide? Surely we can't get that much worse than last year!
wink.gif

I think Essendon are the obvious selection for premiers.

Saints have got to improve, but I think about 10/11th is as far as they'll go. When you completely restructure a team in one preseason, it's got to take awhile for things to gel.

I have no idea about the Dockers. But then when can you predict what they'll do?

Port and Collingwood won't do much.

Impovement for Sydney (maybe?), Brisbane, Adelaide. Bullies, Blues and Roos to drop. maybe slight improvement for Hawthorn. Melbourne to drop a little, but still make the 4/8.

And then there's us. On paper, we have a pretty good team. A few proven good players, and a number of youngsters who have shown a fair bit. If they can maintain their good form, and the Jakos, Cous's, Kemps, Banners, Cummings, Wirras and Materas of the team can stay fit, we could be OK. [Not premiership material, but not adding our first bit of wood to the trphy cabinet either!] Or it could be another debacle like the last two years. The kids could all get the blues, the stars do their knees and the oldies retire all in round one. Good to see others think KJ is a big part of our downfall. Come home Whoosha
wink.gif
You'll never be Carlton coach now...

Essendon - unbeatable for the next few years so how cares about he rest.....
Melbourne
Carlton
Kangaroos
Hawthorn
Sydney
Bulldogs
Richmond
Westcoast
Fremantle
St Kilda
Port Adelaide
Adelaide
Brisbane
Collingwood

Mr. Doom-And-Gloom had better have his say, I suppose.

1.Brisbane (The A.F.L. has been trying to set up a premiership for them for years. It'll finally come off)

2.St.Kilda (obvious reasons)
3.Melbourne (talented team)
4.Port Adelaide (beginning of an era)
5.Hawthorn

6.Essendon (arrogant over-confidence of supporters will rub off on players ... but they'll bounce back in 2002)

7.Richmond
8.Fremantle

9.Carlton
10.Adelaide
11.Kangaroos (end of an era)
12.West Coast
13.Sydney
14.Bulldogs (on the way out)
15.Geelong

16.Collingwood (the new Fitzroy. Will not win a game. Might not even exist in 2002)

Sorry, Pie fans. But I just can't see any hope for our Club.

Reading all your predictions has been interesting, but incorrect. He are the correct results for next season.

1st - Kangaroos: With a more potent forward line the Roos will be hard to beat, and finals experience, Carey and Pagan (the best coach in the land) will see them over the line.
2nd - Melbourne: Again will just miss out.
3rd - Brisbane
4th - Carlton
5th - Hawthorn
6th - St. Kilda (Blight is a miracle worker, but he ain't GOD)
7th - Geelong
8th - Hawthorn
9th - Richmond (Bad luck guys)
10th - Essendon (Remember 1994, It'll happen again)
11th - Western Bulldogs
12th - Fremantle (Bell will be seen by the WA Media as a Flop even though he wins the B&F)
13th - Port Adelaide
14th - West Coast (West Coast's success in 1994 will not happen again)
15th - Adelaide (Believe in Karma. They won two premierships they didn't earn, now they are getting what they deserve)
16th - Collingwood (were they belong)

I like you Devo. a couple of years ago there was a real danger of no Hawthorn in the list at all. You've gone the other way and got them in twice. Great stuff !

8 Geelong {Nothing too special}
9 Carlton {Big losses, Elliot factor?}
10 Sydney {Boring}

Hi the Jeff,

I seriously think Geelong are going down this year & 8 is way too high. They were there by a miracle last year. Also think Sydney will make about 8-5

cheers

I'll go out on a limb and say St Kilda will NOT make the finals.

I'll go out on a limb and say Carlton WILL make the finals.

That's twice as many limbs as I'm prepared to lose!

Hey Devo, I think the Hawks might struggle to finish both fifth and eighth, though it would make a very interesting finals game.

It would be interesting to see Hawthorn playing with themselves. Just like Devo's playing with himself when he said that Adelaide "won two premierships they didn't earn, now they are getting what they deserve."

I know we weren't the best side those years but stiff, we've got the silverware. It's comments like yours Devo that causes most of this Vic v SA rivaly crap.

Ok here goes:

1.Essendon ("No man, No law, No war can stop 'em". Thanks John J. Rambo. Or "There back." Or "Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the footy....I could go on but I'll spare you
wink.gif
)
2.Hawks (surprise packet, Crawford to star again.)
3.Dees (Backline still a problem)
4.Tigers (I believe Tiger fans)
5.Cats (good recruiting, great Coach, even if he's from that scum mob
smile.gif
)
6.Roos (Pace will be a problem, Colbert will be better though)
7.Carlton (Hamill's a bigger loss than they think, added pressure on Whitnall.)
8.Saints (superb recruiting but still have deficiencies)
9.Lions (Problems up forward)
10.Swans (would've put 'em higher but others have recruited better)
11.Dogs (Trouble in key positions)
12.Freo (not quite there yet, we've been saying that for a while)
13.Crows (Can't see where improvement will come from)
14.Eagles (no light at the end of the tunnel)
15.Port (Crap)
16.Collingwoodenspoon (Crappiest)

Alf you were talking about the Pies of '91 yes

? You guys of course were very restrained post '90, yeah and Eddy McGuire's camera shy

RED & BLACK BACK to BACK 2001!

[This message has been edited by RICE80SF (edited 15 November 2000).]

My 2001 ladder prediction is at best a guesstimate and I doubt when I look at this in a years time, I would of got anywhere near the correct ladder for 2001, but here goes.
1. Essendon {the team's got too much talent}
2. Melbourne {great team and will be close to knocking off the Bombers}
3. Hawthorn {if all clicks for them, they could really be right up there}
4. Richmond {my surprise packet team, I hope they can do for their loyal supporters}
5. Sydney {if everything clicks, they have a lot of talent but they always are hard to judge and could finish as low as 12th}
6. St. Kilda {virtually a different club to the 1999 season}
7. Brisbane Lions {a lot of promise, could well finish higher}
8. Fremantle {I reckon Drummy's on the right path with the Dockers and they could even finish higher with a bit of luck on their side}
9. Geelong {will be consistent}
10. Carlton {falling off a bit}
11. Kangaroos {could surprise me, but I think their reign at or near the top for the last 7 seasons is on the slide}
12. Western Bulldogs {a great, tough team but look to be sliding from the past few seasons}
13. Port Adelaide {will improve slightly on '99}
14. Adelaide {it looks like the Crows are in a bit of trouble at the moment}
15. West Coast {a lean year ahead, could even finish with the wooden spoon}
16. Collingwood {about the same as '99, too many other teams around with more talent}

Sheesh everyone every year picks Richmond for the 8. Havnen't you folks learnt anything. Obviously their list is lacking something for them not to make the eight each year, and in fact i know that they will slide down quite dramatically this year. Frawley will be axed by August.
