Rumour 2010 Sydney Swans Trading Discussion (Part 2)

So I looked into him at the Crows website. Here's what I've gathered:

He was a Swans supporter who idolised Goodesy and Mickey O and is from NSW (a town named Burrumbuttock near Albury-Wodonga, although he was a boarder at Assumption College in Melbourne and indicated he lived in Western Sydney). He's played 9 games this season as a 21 y-o as a halfback/flanker (??).

In an ariticle they mentioned he 'was poised to join the club [Sydney] as a rookie before being snaffled up by the Crows at pick No.58 in the 2007 NAB AFL Draft.'

Not sure if we want him, considering our plethora of halfbacks...

He's a good young player, got a few games for the Crows in the second half of the season, a tallish indigenous player, quite fast I think, but from memory he had some discipline issues (I think it was him) vaguely reported only a few weeks back.

I'll defer to your recollections as mine is pretty hazy. My knowledge of fringe players at other clubs is relatively poor so I couldn't pinpoint possible targets. For example, I don't know a lot about Everitt, wouldn't have picked him as a target before this week.

Here's a possible target

Although I don't think he's an outside midfielder, he's more in the mould of a half-back/winger. Yes another one.

in that article it said Brisbane were "interested in only dealing with Sydney". seems we're firming in the race for Sherman. Do we really want to sign someone who didn't want to be here in the first place? How happy will he be if Brisbane send him here against his wishes, and how hard will he play with 4 yrs guaranteed. Bit of a danger IMO

Might be worth a crack.

He said this prior to adelaide playing sydney this year, so it would nice to have someone who is actually super keen about us:

"I grew up in western Sydney and supported the Swans. I just loved Michael O'Loughlin and Adam Goodes. Hopefully, I get a game this weekend and I can get out there and rub shoulders with [Goodes]," Armstrong said.
"You'd treat him like any other player, but hopefully after the game I could go up and shake his hand and tell him I grew up idolising him."

No idea liz, but I didn't suspect McGlynn and/or Kennedy last year either, and from memory I don't recall any rumours regarding them until the deal was nearly done.
Thats why half the posts on here are ridiculous, we don't know and even some clubs don't know till they start talking to other clubs.

I like Tony Armstrong from the few games I've seen of him. I doubt he would be best 22 material straight away but I think he'll turn into a very solid player wherever he plays. In any case, I doubt we will seriously go after until the Sherman situation has been resolved. If we don't get him, they'll go hard I reckon.

Seems Longmire's aim is to inject this club with as much pace as possible. We've got plenty of inside ball winners with Jack, Kennedy, Bird, Hanners here for the next 10 years. Sounds like he wants to surround them with some line breakers.

I would rather we used pick 21 in the draft than use it on Sherman.I have seen him play quite a few games. When he's hot,he's hot but when he's not he's not.

This is bollocks about Setanta O'Hailpin, I can tell you one hundred percent, Setanta is in Sydney right now in talks with the Sydney Swans, showing him the club. Swans will get Setanta who still has a year to go on his contract, and the most likely outcome will be a straight swap for disgruntled small forward Paul Bevan who wants out. Dogs don't have a shot, he's off to Sydney.

**** **** **** I hope this isn't true, I really do and hopefully someone's just taking the piss. I would be extremely disappointed if we got him.

Day 2 Wrap:

At last a couple of trades were done today. I won't repeat them as they are reported everywhere, however they do have impact on our potential deals.

Once again the following summary is a collation of press reports, solid rumours and info from my sources.

I have deleted those traded and updated the list of the players inquired about, from what clubs and rated the reactions on a temp scale - Cold, Cool, Warm or Hot.

Inquiries.....Inquiries......Temperature
.About..........From.............Scale

Setanta........Demons..........Warm
..................Dogs..............Warm
.................Swans..............Cold

I have set out the players that we inquired about, from what clubs and rated our chances on a temp scale - Cold, Cool, Warm or Hot.

Inquiries.....Inquiries......Temperature

Barlow.........Swans.............Cold

Bevan..........Swans............Warm

Some of those who have been linked to us are now gone or appear to be going elsewhere, but there is still plenty to concentrate on in the remaining days. I trust that Swannie and Sticky will do the best possible deals for us.

I'm hoping this post over in the carlton board proves correct and we've gone cold on him, maybe we were looking at him if we didn't get everitt? But it seems there still interested in bevan so something still could happen.

Whilst it is unlikely I hope we can retain Paul Bevan he seemed to be on the improve this year as the team got better. Sure he is always that 18-22 sort of player but he can do some pretty good jobs on the danagerous small forwards.

We should be looking for a small forward and it was disapointing to see Vez go. We have some good forwards but would be nice to have the likes of an up and coming Didak (well his playing talent anyway) Don't think there are players out there in trade week unless Leon Davis was disgruntled but would like to see us go for one in the draft rather than give up our pick for Sherman.

I'm still not quite over him telling the crowd to shush in last years final game when he kicked the sealer.

Whyyy would we want Setanta?? i also wouldn't want to trade pick 21 for Sherman from the matches i have seen he is to inconsistent.

We should of chucked the farm at getting someone like Clarke or making a play for Mckinley.

Would want a pure crumber in our forward line. (I see TDL as more of a mid size leading forward).
I would love to throw pick 21 at Brad Dick. Could rotate in the midfield as well, has a booming kick and has extremely quick pace.

Has anyone thought that Sherman is not that keen line is just part of his and his agents strategy to push up the price.

a lot of game playing goers on at this time of year.

Yep.

"The Swans have a shitload of cash under the cap, tell the media you want to live in Victoria"

U know this isnt exactly the best palce for this, but while we are talking recruitment, why not. I know Ranga Ediriwickrama is 100% leaving the Cattery. A Sydney boy, what are people's thoughts on chasing him? Was U18 All-Australian a few years back, and was the Rams U18 skipper the year after Birdy. Struggled with hamstring injury last year, apparently a pretty solid year in the VFL this season. At 20, definately has his best footy ahead of him.

What at??? One silly suggestion rebuffed by the majority of Carlton supporters.

I'm laughing so hard at the ridiculous suggestion in the 1st place. :D

As if we'd trade White for O'hAilpin. Would be a monumental trade stuff-up on our part.

Rookie list him! Can't have too many rangas in our team.
