Hope like hell one of those in the first 9 drop...

Garlett, Stringer, Menzel are all great options and they all have their worries from attitude to injuries.
I'd leave Garlett out though. Saw some quotes where he said something along the lines of 'it would be good to get away to the East and leave where he won't haave any bad influences' or something similar. If he doesn't acknowledge that HE needs to change, not run away from 'the bad element' then he isn't going to be any better off moving. Big Risk IMHO.

Shaw may also get picked top 10, don't discount it...

Also to quote BT lonergan is an interesting prospect as well, had to basically carry Tassy in the inside mid role, had he been put in the metro or SA team with some serious class around him, I believe he'd be spoken about top 10.

You could say the same thing about our need to replace Jamison, Waite...

I've not heard how Stringer's medicals have gone, but what if someone like him is available with our first pick?

What is someone like Plowman is around at our pick?

Stranger things have happened and I know supporters hate this term, but best available makes the most sense, assuming it is not a ruckman. (which Grundy is the only viable ruckman this year)
To an extent we have started to set ourselves up for the era post Waite & Jamison (you would like to think Jamo has at least another 4 years in him) in recent drafts by getting the likes of Watson, McCarthy, Mitchell, Casboult, McInnes, Rowe & White. I'm not sure we are as well set for the post Judd, Carrazzo, Simpson era.

Agreed and while the group-think on here seem on an endless quest for an 'inside' clearance machine, some silky-skilled finishers wouldn't go astray - particularly as we have a number who "can't kick".

Just gone through a process of elimination as to who we are unlikely to see at #11.
Most of these seem pretty set to go in the top ten across a cross section of phantoms, but would we take any one of these should they drop?

Whitfield
Toumpass
Grundy
Macrae
O'Rourke
Plowman
Mayes
Wines
Daniher

That makes for 9 players we're unlikely to see with only one selection to be taken before our #11

Next grouping that sit in most peoples top 20:

Garlett
Menzel
Stringer
Jacksh
Membrey
Vlastuin
Kennedy

Are we likely to see a player from this lot and if so, which one and why?

I really like Kennedy a little in and under rocket who is hard as and has a massive left foot kick. I could see him play next and be the rising star.

Marcus Davies? :p
I still have hope for him. I reckon Mick will get him up and running this year. Just a matter of getting some game-time and building up some confidence. I mean under Ratts, he must of been spewing when AJ kept getting games ahead of him, especially in the back pocket and in no real tagging role...

We still have hope of finding Jimmy Hoffa also. (Just kidding)

It's now all up the individuals and how they present in the pre-season.
Attitude and commitment go a long way with Mick.

Davies isn't that bad of a footballer, his skills are OK and loves to go for a run (which I like), he just made a couple of ghastly errors in his last few games (I suspect due to low confidence and pressure to hold his spot). My main criticism of Ratts was that he continued to play his favorites even though they were out of form, and didn't give others much of a chance. You can't expect everyone to be as patient and confident as McLean in getting back into the side.

Have not seen a heap of him, but between what I've seen and heard, not the biggest fan of his performance. He seemed to play his best football when allowed to play in the ruck and I am just not sure at AFL level if he can play that role.

He's done okay at colts level due to his height.

I would not personally have him in my top 20, then again, I always struggle to rate tall players and I think the talls are often where recruiters can make the big calls.

Just looking back at the likes of a Darling, Kersten that camebefore Shaw and they dropped a lot lower than people thought.
Friend played Colts with him, doesn't expect him to go very high at all, outside of a couple of games hasn't done much this season.

Interesting, I know the BF boards will go mental if their clubs pass on him in the first round. Carlton and the Dockers boards seem to want him with their first picks.

Taylor made
In Country's first game of the championships, the 18-year-old dislocated his left shoulder. He woke up the day after in agony, and missed the next game, but returned for the round three clash with Western Australia.

It was his best game, collecting 20 disposals and kicking three goals. His shoulder again popped out, but Country's physios were able to strap it up tightly and he played the game out, and kept flying for marks however much it hurt.

The next game, against Vic Metro, he felt a whack over his shoulder in the second quarter, and knew it had subluxed again, when the shoulder slips out of its pocket. This time he didn't tell anyone and played on.

He knew if the coaches found out they probably wouldn't let him play the final game of the championships five days later against South Australia at Etihad Stadium, and he really wanted to play that game. So he hid the injury, and the pain.

He ended up playing against South Australia, and dislocated the shoulder for the fourth time in four games.

Four weeks ago Garner underwent a shoulder reconstruction, and he's in a sling for another two weeks, ruling him out of the TAC Cup finals and from testing at the NAB AFL Draft Combine

It would be more entertaining to see Rogers take a flanker/mid such as Garner to witness the meltdown. The Hughes haters would have a field day if his successor drafted another versatile type.

I like Garner who looks pretty fearless and crazy overhead when he's one out. Shame that a lot of these kids have already had serious injuries. Some won't have any patience if Garner takes his time to get a game as he recovers from his injury. Especially if Garlett, Kennedy, Membrey, etc. come straight in and play.

I like Knightmare having Lonergan at 12. Wouldn't be so odd picking him at 11 then ;)
Like Colquhuon at 33 because he could release Yarran.

Wonder if we would take Colquhuon or go for Josh Simpson if both were available. I wouldn't be against drafting some inside muscle and grunt if one's available.

Sam Landsberger tweeted that the Scum are interested in Rory Atkins who won Calder's Best & Fairest.

Defender Matthew Dick, forwards Rory Atkins and Adam Saad and tall forward Liam McBean are other Cannons products in the draft mix, while dynamic small forward Andrew Gallucci and developing big man Sean Gregory head the club's list of rookie chances.

Here is Allison's run down of the Cannons' major draft hopes this year.

Jonathon O'Rourke

"He has exquisite kicking skills, which makes him stand out. Whilst he's more than capable inside the contest, I think his strength is on the outside," Allison says.

"He glides across the oval and he's a fantastic runner. So I think he's going to be a pretty handy acquisition."

Lachie Plowman

"He's an exceptional competitor. As a defender, he knows when to leave his player and impact the contest. He can get on the end of a handball, cut inside and run and carry.

"However, I think his true worth might be as a midfielder, he's got a very good body for a midfielder."

Matthew Dick

"I'm a huge fan of Matt. He's got great speed, kicks it well and he gives you that run and carry. He's a good decision maker and he can play on a taller player and also a smaller player, but I think he can also have an impact on the wing

Matthew Dick highlights

Rory Atkins

"He knows where the goals are and he had some really good games in the midfield when we pushed him in there.

"He can get around opponents pretty quickly. He's got some more improvement to go, but there's an enormous amount of upside. I know there's a fair bit of interest out there for Rory."

Rory Atkins

Adam Saad

"He's got great speed and a pretty good kick on him. He gives you great run and carry and he's always lifting his vision to look further down the field. His speed and his kicking are going to be attractive to people, and he's got very good goal sense."

Liam McBean

"Like Joe (Daniher) he runs around like a player who is 186cm, which is completely ridiculous.

"When he stops growing he's going to have to put some bulk on and clubs will have to invest some time in to him. But I'm pretty certain clubs will get a versatile and agile player who can play in a lot of positions."

Love Josh Simpson, could replace, Simpson.

Doubt he'll get to out second pick though.

Gee... I hate to admit it but the scum look like the real winners in this draft already. Watching Joe Daniher in action for vic metro and he marked everything that came his way, contested marking machine! A true ruckman/forward in every sense.... looks pretty special!

Lonergan sounds a great fit for us at #11.... Tasmanian tuff!
Towers might go alright I think at #33??

Colqhoun at #33 please, will be what Yarran is
2013 Few games first year
2014 More games second year off the half back flank allowing us to experiment with Yarran on the wind
2015 Permanent half back flanker, Yarran dominating off the wing when he's at his peak
Sounds good to me :thumbsu:

Apparently Hutchy is saying that Garlett is a lock at #6.

If so, are we getting closer to Wines or O'Rourke?
Wouldn't Mayes and Plowman be a safer bet than Garlett/Mayes and Plowman?

Macrae and O'Rourke would be unlikely to get past Richmond and Brisbane if Garlett goes to the Dogs. Dogs might need a defender after trading Lake. Their supporters want more outside run with Liberatore, Wallis, Hunter and Smith locked and loaded as inside mids. Garlett or Mayes would address one of their needs. I wouldn't sneeze at Plowman if a snowflake formed in hell and he was available at 11.

Suns have signed Clay Cameron as a zone selection. Cameron and Boston would have put two players into the pool for the other clubs to use later picks on. Scum get them for free. AFL won't be happy until the Giants and Suns make the Lions and Cats flag sides look like the Bradbury's.
