Even today I was actually thinking Darling is going to be a special player. Was triple teamed all day and still managed to have an impact (not a massive one, but he did some good things). Obviously he struggles as a the primary forward target at this stage but with more support he'll be awesome.

Tunbridge ( P , league ) - 11 D 7 M 3.3

Showing some improvement , has a good left foot kick . As someone else said he is only young and imagine will be kept for at least another season .

I don't think anyone truly thought we would see Dick pushing for a spot in our side this year, but he is starting to really get my attention. Two games in the reserves and now 3 in the seniors and he has not put a foot out of place. Could he possibly find a way into the team over the next few weeks? Has anyone seen one of his games in the WAFL?

Ummm...Why not? The guy is proven at AFL level and is in good form. Better than Swift and McGinnity. Can play all over the ground. Another goal kicking option would be good since we can't get past 10 recently.

SUNDAY TIMES " PICK ME "

A strijk - K 12 H 1 M 5 - Struggled like the rest of his team .
L Stevenson - K 11 H 10 M 8 - Terrific game in defence .
G Weedon - K 11 H 7 m 6 - Building some encouraging form in new defencive role .
J McGovern - K 11 H 7 M 7 HO 15 T 4 Gls 3 - Good up forward and kicked three goals .
S Tunbridge - K 9 H 2 M 7 Gls 3.3 - Provided a strong marking target , but wasted opportunities .
B Dick - K 11 H 4 M 4 Gls 4.4 - Forward spark for Sharks early .
M Brown - K 2 H 2 M 3 - Injured early and did not return .
B Dalziell - K 10 H 18 M 3 - Nine clearances , consistent in midfield .
K Stevens - K 14 H 11 M 7 Gls 2 - Dominant second term , decisive midfield effort .

RESERVES

A Hamp - Three goals for Claremont reserves
C Papertalk - Four possessions in EF reserves .

They have missed A Smith who had 18 possessions for Perth .
EF players pretty dominant against a struggling SD .
Good that Tunbridge is playing forward this week and having a good game .

Tunbridge as a forward :thumbsu:

If Dick continues with similar numbers we'd be smart to give him a couple of games prior to finals simply to see how he goes. If we lose a small forward close to in finals we don't want a McGinnity being a small forward, simply not damaging enough in or kicking into the forward 50.

The same could be said about McGovern, if we lost a Darling or Lynch or Kennedy doesn't get back we need a backup option as a KP forward, and no robbing the backline of Schofield is not a good option.o_O

 They actually watched the game and got it right, wow. Stevens second term, he seemed on a mission to prove to the powers that be that he deserved a full AFL game. He willed himself to contests, but more impressively, he willed himself to run into space and link, something that sometimes misses from his game. Was clearly the player, IMO, that was the catalyst for setting up the Sharks big win in that second term.

Dick, was super impressed, has pace, knows where to run, doesn't shirk the contest, has lovely skills. Could be a big bonus for us if he stays healthy over the next few years.

4 possessions in reserves is so bad for a player on a afl list .

Sure, but he's been playing deep in D for much of the year, and they won by 70 odd points.

It's easy to be critical but for all we know he might have done a stellar job on the FF.

EDIT - He kicked a goal apparently, so who knows haha. Was anybody there?

I think this year is just foreplay for Dick. He really needs to work at his strenghth and conditioning so he can stand up for a whole year. Also with Hams playing his role well and Hill to come back, there really isn't a hole for him to fill. Also if he forces the issue he may damage something and it will need to be stitched up. That's all I've got...

I suppose it was getting pretty hard to keep it up after that effort.

Dick and McGovern should be elevated. McGovern is a stronger contested mark than Darling.

Darling is a second year player and is getting the No.1 defender every week now. He is still managing to contest usually against two or more opponents who are often bigger and far more seasoned than he is. Mcgovern is playing WAFL against ammos.

Sweet jesus people on this board are mind mindbogglingly stupid at times.

somebody had to say it. even in the VFL and AFL KPP is expected to dominate. Not have reasonable games but dominate.

Darling is not KP sized and has stood up brillaintly in his second year.

Don't think that's what EH was saying. I think he was just praising McGovern, rather than criticising Darling.

Anyone seen the Tigers live lately? How does Weedon look down back? I daresay he never looked 100% comfortable in the forward line, so I am interested in this development. Lots of similar types have been moved into defence over the past few years and done well, Yarran being the obvious success story.

Reckon we'll delist him? Worth another preseason?

Either way, it was a very silly thing to post and deserved to be called out. I swear, McGovern must have half his family or schoolmates on here or something.

It's the rookie romanticism - if he were a 2nd round draft pick people wouldn't be so chuffed. People love a basement bargain KPP.

Edit: On that - he must be close to KPP height if he's getting 15 hit outs as a back up ruckman? 190 surely can't be right?
