From The Sunday Times

" Mark McGough , Bradd Dalziell and Koby Stenevs were tremendous as the sharks made the perfect start with the ideal blend of experience , youth and AFL talent "

" It was a game full of AFL talent , with 11 WCE listed players and three from Fremantle . Of those lining up for the tigers , Neates was especially good an the first half and Tom Swift battled away in the middle but his disposal let him down , while Stevenson was terrific off half-back and through the middle . "

" Dockers rookie Sam Menegola was a good forward target for the Sharks , Jon Griffen dominated the ruck and Mitch Brown , Jacob Brennan and Brad Sheppard were solid in defence . "

" Peel's consistent pressure allowed Eagle Scott Lycett to come into the game . He took several contested marks to boot two second-half goals ,though he was guity of missing several other chances from set shots "

" West Coast rookie Fraser McIness was impressive in his battle against Fremantle - listed Peter Faulks , booting two goals for the match and providing a strong target up forward .

Dropped Eagle Sam Butler was solid across half-back , but did not have a great impact . "

dalziell started sections of the nab cup in the center.

im not saying i rate the guy, im just saying we give him one last shot baring good wafl form

Swift has considerably more potential than Dalziell though.

true, but the basis for what i'm preaching is i thought he had an alright NAB cup match vs. st kilda, and could transmit that to regular season. he's viewed as one of those brilliant wafl players that can't make the transition to AFL, maybe it's just because we only gave him one quarter to prove himself. i thought he had an alright 2010

though i do understand the dalziell hate, i've bagged the man a lot myself, just starting to rethink things

sound familiar?

manages to get games
.....for Claremont

AFL Watch - The West Australian

M Mascoulis - Showed glimpses of quality and had strong third quarter .
F McIness - Offered a strong focal point in attack .
J McGovern - Quiet game in the forward line .
R Neates - Had a good first half but fell away after half-time .
J Brennan - Gave plenty of drive from half-back.
M Brown - Serviceable in defence .
S Butler - Got better the further the game went .
B Dalziell - Ran out the game well and won plenty of the ball .
A Hamp - Had limited impact up forward .
S Lycett - Some telling marks and two late goals helped get his side back in the game .
C Papertalk - Played at half-back in the reserves but relatively quiet .
B Sheppard - One of the sharks best . Instrumental in the second half at HB and in the middle .
K Stevens - Impressive work rate and used the ball well .
L Stevenson - One of Claremonts better defenders . Used the ball well to start attacks from HB .
T Swift - Worked hard at the stoppages but disposal let him down .
S Tunbridge - Some useful touches .
G Weedon - No real impact across HF
B Wilson - Did a good job in the last line of defence .

Nearly a reserves team numbers there , --- Sheppard / Stevenson / Dalziell / Lycett / Stevens / Neates / Brennan showing good form and good to see Lycett improved on last weeks quiet performance .

Swift probably needs to do a Priddis and put away his kicking as much as possible, and work to his strengths.

The trouble is he can't do this at AFL level because he's playing a more outside role due to Priddis and Kerr being in the side.

Good to see Sheppard playing well. Seems to be one of our forgotten first round picks.

Swift will be gone once his contract runs out I think. Just not getting any better. Unless they want to keep him on as a possible Priddis replacement later on but would need to show some improvement.

Think Weedon will be one of them players who will perform in AFL better than WAFL. Basing it on absolutely nothing, just my thoughts.

Bit harsh on Weedon, he performed well in the NAB Cup. I'm sure the coaching staff have plans for him.

Sad to say but can't see Weedon ever earning a game. Just doesn't get into games, never a match winner or vote getter.

Do you have anything positive to say about any Eagles player Gambler? Just asking.

He earned one last year against Essendon

G'day all, long time reader, new poster. I'm sure it may have been covered previously but I am keen to know about your thoughts on Lewis Stevenson's prospects. I have always been impressed with his efforts but expected him to get a better run last year. I also understand that we had a good run with injuries last year and that we have a solid side, especially in the back half, but he has impressed with run and carry whenever I have seen him. Any other reasons for not getting a regular trot?

He was asked to concentrate on his man on man defending last year, tighten that up, which he did. Other than that, the only thing I can think of is he didn't impose himself on games.

I think you'll find he'll get a few games this year, unless we have a great run with injuries. Showed strong form in the WAFL and was one of the BOG for Claremont on the weekend. This is his year.

I don't know but it would be pretty hard slotting into a team which you haven't played or trained with for at least a good 6 months. If he builds his tank over another preseason he could be anything.

Has taken his game to a new level this year, two bog's for Claremont and a good preseason.
He is up against a lot of players for a backline position, even Sam Butler isn't a given these days.
Hopefully he gets a game soon, games against Melbourne and GWS would be a good games to blood him again.

We really do have an oversupply of HBFs who can't get a game. Brad Sheppard doesn't even look like getting a game anytime soon, probably should have taken Lewis Jetta in hindsight who would be getting a game for us right now.

Cheers for the feedback lads. I don't remember him being exposed often or loose, but I guess we never really know what job he is sent out to undertake by the match committee. He appears pretty smart to me and doesn't panic (which as you know JW usually loves), so I thought there may be more to it, and that I may have missed something. I appreciate your comments.

In all honesty Nat Fyfe (no 20 in that draft) would be pretty handy in the Blue and Gold rather than Jetta. But I get your point.

Jetta's run and carry would have been good but his kicking and his tendency to spray the ball every where wouldn't have been what we needed

:( Fyfe will be top five in the league in 3 years. How was he let go by so many? Didn't he dominate colts?
