Very sad for the young fella.

I hope he gets the best possible diagnosis.

I know what it likes to lose a talented young player to injury.

Could very well be the career for Gary. Obviously big strides are always being made in sports med, but that's as bad as it gets.

The incidence looks a lot like what happened to Djibril Cissé (a soccer plyer for Liverpool in like 2004 IIRC). He fractured both tibia and fibula too. He returned in like 18 months and played in positions requiring speed. So here is to Rohan making a good recovery. (our best wishes to him and the support network around him (family, friends and swans community))

The tibia, fibula (bones in leg) form a loop with the thigh bone at the knee and the ankle bones at the other end. When a break in a loop configuration occurs, it normally breaks in at least two places. Our hope is that the fracture is only in the long bones and not through the long bones and into the joints. If it is involving the joints, how the joint move can be effected would could affect him long term. Only the surgeon will really know who well it all fits back together.

The main thing, is Gary seems a real fighter. Someone who is willing to face the next few days and the months of rehab ahead. I know the Swans Community is a strong one who will be behind him!

Just wanted to say how awful I feel for Rohan, Swans supporters (and that's me when I'm not in purple) and just anyone who loves footy. Thought that he could be one of the best players in the game, (and hopefully he still could be!) and was really excited about watching his development this year. Didn't see how bad it was at the ground, and really wish I hadn't watched it on the tele later :( Fingers crossed for him. I just feel really devastated at the moment.

i seriously had tears actually lies i cried watching the reply...that and robbie grays are just shit shit shit injuries

This is a reason as to why I am an actual supporter of the AFL's push to slow the game down with less interchanges.

I get howled down plenty for taking that view, but all folks have to do is look at those two boys getting injured becasue they were going flat out.

Soph it's just so awful.

I haven't been able to concentrate on studying for my exams tomorrow for which im screwed for. Just gutted.

Chin up bloods fans he will bounce back.

james strauss had a similar break last year and he is about 1- 2 weeks away from a return to the seniors

sam blease is also another who had a severe leg break and has made it back senior football as well

My thoughts exactly. Yes, it looks horrific. Yes, it sucks for the young man, but all the talk is premature about it being career ending. It will be a season ending one, but I don't think too much more than that.

Horse said on radio this morning changes for the hawks game Goodes in next week but not really sure any of the other boys would come up.

Concerning for Smith as the longer this inner ear infection goes a bad one can last for some time, say like a football season.

Ear infections can be horrible afflictions. I had them a lot as a kid and they can genuinely stick around and **** with you for weeks.

It's not common that they stick around for ages but it's possible. If it infects your eardrum badly like it did with me then you need surgery and that isn't fun.

Yeah, I suffered the same thing when I was younger and eventually had surgery.

I couldn't even fathom the amount of pain you'd be in if you copped a whack on the side of the head whilst suffering from an ear infection.

We've actually been sewn together at the ear so at least we each kind of have 2 ears. Much like conjoined twins now.

Unfortunately, his was the right and mine was the left so we face in opposite directions. Makes it very hard to pop down the shops.

I can't see what he's typing.

The problem in this case is that it is a compound fracture.
Depending on the severity it could be career threatening.
A guy called David Busst, playing for Coventry v Man Utd a few years back, had a compound fracture of his tibia & fibula. He never played top flight football again.

Nathan Brown & Dale Morris are recent AFL players who fractured their tibias and required rods to be inserted into their legs and had significant issues with their return.

Hopefully Gary will come back and fulfil his undoubted potential, but a successful return is by no means assured.

I agree, but I think we need to hold off on the talk before we get some conclusive facts. Could give him troubles for the rest of his life or it could be just a season or so out and then back into it.

All in all, this is the first long term injury we've had to a best 22 player since B2 2 years ago isn't it?
