Nice to see that we are close to re-signing Sumner but can't help but wonder if Adams could be very much used as trade bait

GREATER Western Sydney's success in retaining its young talent is set to continue, with exciting midfielder Liam Sumner close to signing a new deal with the club.

Sumner has been one of the few Giants to hold off contract negotiations since joining the club as one of its 11 first-round draft picks in 2011.

Liam sumner set to re-sign so all attention on Adams now. Haynes has yet to do much at the top level so don't expect too much intesrest in him from the Vic clubs. No doubt if he strings a few quality games together then gws will hand him a juicy contract extension. Operation sign adams is underway!

That's good news. I like the big Sauce. What was wrong? He's missed the entire preseason ans I know how that can really stuff the rest of the season. Has he at least been able to run? Keep his fitness up?

Apparently Phillips has had another set back and is out for another 3 weeks.

But in reading our injury list interesting to read that James Stewart is back from injury and that we are viewing him as ruck rather then as a forward. So in the last 18 mths he has gone from being a mid then after having a major growth spurt was made into a key forward, and now we are looking to turn him into a ruck.

In terms of ruckman i believe your best shots are at Warnock and Jamar. Both are proven number 1 ruckman that will be able to handle the majority of the ruck. I think and this is not just because im a carlton supporter that you guys should look at warnock. He is a great ruckman and would be playing in most sides that didnt have a gun ruckman, hes being wasted at carlton and based just on the weekend when he beat cox has shown he is more than capable.

He would be starting ruckman at GWS, collingwood, Geelong, Hawthorn, Melbourne, Port Adelaide, Freemantle (sandi always out), Bulldogs.

What do you think you guys would offer for him? I think he is worth around pick 17-25. If Adams or Sumner wanted to go back to Vic would a trade be worthwhile?
He'd be worth something in the 20-35 range, not getting a gig at his current club, albeit behind a good ruckman, but is clearly not needed there. If he got some games this year, and showed he can be a dominant #1 ruckman, then his value might go up, but until he can stay on the park and consistently perform/get a game, then he's not worth much more than that. Warnock certainly wouldnt be first ruck at the bolded clubs. When Jolly and Jamar are up and going, they are far superior to Warnock. Minson would destroy warnock this year, and probably last year as well. Leads the comp for hitouts and has been one of our best throughout the start of this year. He and Cooney would be #1 and #2 atm. Alot of clubs would be upset they didnt make a serious offer for minson when he was out of contract a year ago and probably would have left.

GWS don't need draft picks. What they do need is senior players. A #1 draft pick is not going to improve there side in the next 3 years, where as a 24-27 year old gun would markedly improve there side. What GWS need is a Luke Hodge or Scott Pendlebury. Clearly they're not going to get either of them, but they need a player of that caliber. Lance Franklin Would be perfect, as well as a Frawley or even someone like Colin Sylvia. Get senior players in to protect the young bodies, and they'll reap the benefits :thumbsu:

Just out of interest, what players would you guys be willing to give up at the end of this year? The doggies board were really interested in WHE, but you guys already signed him up :( We'd love to take Liam Sumner off your hands, though? What kind of cost are we looking at?

We've got a few players who are almost certainties to be on the trade table this year, unless drastic improvement occurs in the next 10 games.

Jarrad grant: 192cm 87kg, 23 years of age. 57 goals from 50 games. Tall utility who hasn't come on as we'd have expected. Can play as a leading forward, tall wingman and even a Medium/Tall defender. Is very fast, probably is in the top 5 for pace at the club. has had trouble putting any muscle on, therefore he's struggling with Macca's highly contested game plan.

Dylan Addison: 186cm 89kg, 25 years of age. 18 goals, 76 games. Formerly a HBF but last year was very effective as a defensive forward. Very contested player, macca loves him. has been injured for the first 4 rounds, but expect him to be back in the team soon. So brave, its scary. Is from NSW so might relish a move home and become a leader.

Christian Howard: 185cm, 84kg, 22 years of age. 17 games, 3 goals. former first round pick who is another who hasn't done well with Macca's contested game plan. I like him as a player, has elite foot skills, isn't overly slow, although by no means has express pace, and has a massive tank. Is capable of playing HBF, wing and outside midfielder. Probably needs a fresh start.

Lukas Markovic: 193cm 96kg, 25 years of age. 25 games. Was a mature age recruit about 4 years ago, has been in and out of the side for various reasons, including form, injury and team balance. One of the coaches favourites and has a fantastic attitude. Great leader. Knocks on him are his pace and isn't overly tall for a gorilla defender.

Jason Tutt: 177cm, 80kg. 9 games and 8 goals. 21 years of age. Fast outside midfielder with a big tank and a penetrating kick, is a ball of muscle. Was critisised for his hardness, but to his credit has come back this year and hit the contest hard. wasn't afraid to tackle a bigger opponent. Was injured last year and lost opportunities that he certainly could have taken because of it.

Patrick Veszpremi: 182cm, 85kg. 22 games, 17 goals. 23 years of age. I love Patty as a player, and hate the fact the club wont give him a proper go. Has all the skills and ability in the world, just struggled a little with his tank and ability to run out games. This was partly due to the club trying to make him into a midfielder, when he is clearly a natural forward, which is what we lack. Is an excellent kick, knows where the goals are, and as stated before, is a natural footballer. Has improved his tank considerably, as evident by his VFL performances this year, in which he has tallied 37 disposals, 3 goals 5 behinds, before that was 18 disposals, 3 goals 2 behinds, and in the first round of the VFL, he snagged 1 goal,2 behinds and 18 disposals. Very good start by Patty.

Interested in any of these blokes? or does someone else on our list tickle your fancy...

Just heard jay clacker mention that gws would be going after leuenberger, who comes off contract at years end.

How much would GWS be willing to give for leuenberger?
Because we have activated our mid 1st round concession pick, I could see that being on the table or if Brisbane wanted a player instead then someone like Sam Darley.
Yeah I was gonna say with our 1st and a mid-1st (say top 3 and #10), picks beyond that might be on the table. Our 2nd would be around #20, add a player to that and see how we go.

Of course a lot will depend on how badly GWS want Leuenberger and what other offers are being made.

Well if we could get him and if he could bring down pearce hanley with him we would be doing very - both only 24 and both out of contract and clearly they would make a big difference to our list. And if packaged together would be open to giving up pick 1 to gain them

I don't think the club will accept anything beyond 1st round picks even packaged with other picks or players and I think the club will want something higher than a number 10 pick. I don't know how the clubs will organise something they're both happy with.

Here is Jay Clark's piece on our interest in Leuenberger

BRISBANE Lions ruckman Matthew Leuenberger is on course to become one of the AFL's most wanted players at season's end.The athletic big man is out of contract at the end of the year and is looming large for new club Greater Western Sydney.

While the Giants' remain genuinely interested in Hawthorn superstar Lance Franklin, Leuenberger, 24, has emerged as an ideal back-up recruiting target.

GWS has made no secret of its desire to add an established blue-chip ruckman, and potentially some key defensive reinforcement, to help bolster its glittering young midfield.
club's list management chiefs, Graeme Allan and Stephen Silvagni, have been lauded for the Giants' start-up recruiting, but are yet to finalise their key trade options for October's exchange period.

Should Franklin, 26, accept a big-money bid from the Giants, Leuenberger could also come into the Hawks' contingency plans as a mobile ruck-key forward.

The Lions remain confident Leuenberger, a No. 4 draft pick, will remain in Queensland, having recovered a debilitating achilles injury.

But it is likely the Perth-raised big man will wait to finalise his contract later in the season, after only three games last year.

If the 204cm ruckman's recovery continues without setback, Leuenberger's value is expected to soar.

The Lions' direction will also be a factor for the 72-gamer, with coach Michael Voss again under pressure after a sloppy start to the season.

West Coast's Mitch Brown is also expected to lob on the Giants' radar.

Brown, a versatile key position player, has put off contract negotiations with the Eagles until the end of the season, after failing to secure a trade to St Kilda last year. The Saints are expected to continue to pursue Brown.

What sort of trade would it take to net brown? Still young and a decent KPD, would be a cheaper trade compared to frawley/ Reid etc. Our mid 1st compo pick on it's own should suffice or perhaps 2nd rounder and ugle/Wilson?

Leuenberger and Hanley combined are worth much more than pick 1. Both are tracking towards elite status and are in our top 5 players.

For what's its worth, both will stay. Brisbane has plenty of cap space to retain key players. We had 800k sat aside for Tippett and Brown and Black will probably hang up the boots this year too.

I agree, If leuenberger continues to play well I would think he would be worth Pick 1 & a player. We will definately not be getting any spuds from the dogs (I would hope)

Given that Judd in his prime costed carlton - pick 3, 20 & a player I would say that pick 1 and a player for Leuenberger is way over the top. If it was to happen mid 1st rd and a player would be about right especially as he is uncontracted and if a deal wasn't reached we could get him for nothing thru the psd

I think Bogan Juniors is right about what he's worth.

I think cMC is right about the most likely scenario, given GWS is probably going to have pick 1 in the PSD.

However I also expect Leuenberger to re-sign with the Lions given the extent of the reporting about this is "Giants are interested in him". I'm pretty sure you could name any club except maybe West Coast and they'd be "interested in him" too.

Judd also came with a dodgy third party deal too, I doubt we will be offering those. But all speculation ATM. He will probably stay at the lions but he should be sounded out
