A thread for predicting which players in reach of a milestone will make it there next year.

The list of players who are in touch of a milestone game next year is below.

Jimmy Bartel - 249 games. 1 away
Josh Caddy - 42 games. 8 away
Mitch Duncan - 76 games. 24 away
Cam Guthrie - 40 games. 10 away
James Kelly - 233 games. 17 away
Andrew Mackie - 198 games. 2 away
Billie Smedts - 27 games. 23 away
Harry Taylor - 136 games. 14 away

Bartel and Mackie barring an absolute disaster should be givens. Caddy, Guthrie and Taylor should make it. And Kelly depending on how his body is holding up should make it.
Duncan could make it if his form is good enough, but missing only 1 or 2 games in a year is very tough these days.

Sorry, it's a long off-season, hope this poll interests at least somebody ;)

I always try work out milestone games around this time of the year when the fixture has just been released. Being from SA I cant get over to to many games so if I'm torn between two particular rounds I always factor in which one could potentially be a milestone game.

See you all in Round 1 haha.

For Duncan to make it he has to play every home and away game, plus two finals. Big assumption and these days he'd be unlikely to play every game during the year.

You're right I worked it out wrong because of the bye rounds . Very big ask, would have to play the season of his life.

Duncan was one of only 3 Geelong players (Selwood & Mackie the other two) to play all 25 games this season, and his previous two seasons have seen him play 21 and 22 games. So pending us making it to the second/third week of the finals I wouldn't rule him out of playing his required 24 games

It raises an intriguing question though, how the players are managed throughout the year. The last 2 seasons a lot has been spoken about getting them to peak for finals, which has proven to be complete garbage. We'll see if anything (hopefully) changes in 2014.

Actually wasn't aware of that, I just assumed he would have been managed at some point during the season. But it's good sign for him that he can play that number of games in a season. Think he'll improve a lot next year as well.

I didn't realise it was that high either until I look up the stats for this year. I thought it was above 20 games, but wasn't sure exactly how many - couldn't remember if he missed a week following his concussion.

Both Duncan and Smedts could get to their milestones, especially Duncan. How we go as a team, injury and with Smedts, form will play a part. Odds are about 50/50 to me.

All the others would be pretty stiff to miss out.

I'd say everyone makes theirs, except Smedts and Duncan (though of course it's not impossible). And as much as I enjoy the player milestones, of just as much interest to me will be the inroads that Bartel and Enright can make on ending the 300 games curse at Geelong. Not that Enright is any certainty to go on in 2015, but it would be great if he could finish the season on ~285 and Bartel on ~270.

Jimmy Bartel - 249 games. 1 away - Unless he is abducted by aliens for a dreamteam on Mars
Josh Caddy - 42 games. 8 away - Definitely
Mitch Duncan - 76 games. 24 away - Possibly, easily best 22 but may be rested 1 or 2 games
Cam Guthrie - 40 games. 10 away - Definitely
James Kelly - 233 games. 17 away - You would say so, unless injured
Andrew Mackie - 198 games. 2 away - Is the pope catholic?
Billie Smedts - 27 games. 23 away - Unlikely, but not impossible
Harry Taylor - 136 games. 14 away - Yes, unless injured

The real question with Jimmy is who will chair him off after his 250th?
Chappy runs from the crowd at the end of the game stripping his clothes to reveal his cats gear as he runs away from the security guards. Gets to jimmy and chairs him off then runs up the race.. Slipping slightly just enough to strain the hammy and he misses the game against Geelong...
Go Catters

Don't we wait until round 15 or something to play Essendon? So that means either Jimmy misses the majority of the start of the season not playing until round 13/14 or that the slight hammy strain to Chappy keeps him out for 15/16 games....
I think I like the second option better :D
