Good to see a few of you ex NEAFL snobs have decided that coming back to the masses isn't working out too badly for you.. Based on the talk in summer you would have thought that you were lowering yourselves toplay little league...;)

The QAFL is a fun competition and it is working out but my club didn't enjoy losing 15 of its best ( guys we had put a heap of work into). The standard of footy of QAFL this year is of course lower than neafl last year, and not sure I'll see too many at h&a get drafted.

But being in a comp that we can actually realistically be towards the top without sending us broke, and a few more at home games is most definitely enjoyable

On the subject of afl reserves comp. not do sure it will happen. 1. It's very expensive- extra travel and requiring more players

2. Most of the afl clubs have their own ressies already so why the push for change

3. They have sorted out sanfl and wafl and neafl to accommodate the afl reserves the hard work is done admit they still need to sort Canberra out in the neafl

4. The exposure that state league players get playing the afl reserves team shouldn't be underestimated.

5. If state leagues become the third tier rather than the second, it will cripple them IMO.

Given all this the inevitable afl reserves is not so inevitable

Don't think any mate but there is more to a footy club than getting kids drafted too. I'm positive Broady people will be (rightly) stoked if one of your lads gets drafted at the end of 2014 even if it is from Southport. And you would like to think the kid will remember this too. What QAFL clubs have to realise is that you people are involved with a football club, not just a pathway for elite players which is really what the other 3 are.

Yeah agree on all these 2010, esp #4.

for years clubs have been claiming players that have played under 15 games for them...... thats enough NEAFL talk this is qafl page

Yep what is the beef with the neafl. I have watched numerous games now and the standard is absolutely fantastic. Admittedly I haven't watched the Canberra teams but nt v asp, red, sharks in Darwin were super quality games and red v sharks, suns at casheez were fantastic. The problems lay in the draw, the logistics, number of Canberra teams.

According to a few of the VFL teams the AFL reserves is just around the corner.

I don't mind the idea of afl res signing players as the vfl do, I actually thought this was the way they were heading.

I think the Sharks may rotate a few more of there seniors through Surfers this week as to not allow them to have more than the one week off. Interesting call from the Labrador fan re sharks dropping back but I guarantee you one former shark at tigerland may still have most of the sharks boys covered come brown paper bag time!!

Unfortunately the QAFL rep game maybe a disaster with the large majority of the vafa squad having vfl or afl experience, and only 19 qlders on the paddock for there first run.
Do you want to stay with your defence of Southport dropping players back , and do you want to open up the discussion on Salary Cap? Happy to oblige.

Enjoyed the Magpies v Broady game today. Pretty close and enjoyable game with Broady winning by 20. They were able to get some occasional short scoring runs going that made the difference. Plenty of kick-to-kick with groups of random kids during the breaks and a bit of friendly chat and banter with supporters from both sides and good value bar and canteen - all the things that make community footy good. I did pop over to watch a bit of the Kenmore/Alex Hills QFA game too. Kenmore won easily - there are some big units in that team and Anthony Corrie is a valuable touch of class. Alex Hills look a fairly young and small team.

Overall a good performance by the cats today. Magpies came from 5 goals down at halftime and hit the front early in the last, however it always looked like at some point the cats would regain the ascendency.

I'm all for umpires letting the boys play but today they let a few too many go and the result was regular wrestling matches and a fair bit of agro.

Entertaining game overall though. Must say generally the QAFL games are fairly competitive this year, not too many smashings good for footy.

Agree, was a good game... Broady looked to have the Magpies measure from the opening bounce, but credit to the Magpies , especially their third quarter.
Haley was excellent for Broady, bagged 6 and his excellent leading and contesting was a highlight.Darrin Stewart was a rock in defence and young Ward,( no 53) was lively. And no 28 was good in defence for Broady. Skrinnis was good to.
Next 3 weeks will be huge for us.... Palm beach next week, Labrador then Morningside after that.

number 28 for Broady is young Royes.... has been going well.
See Mt Gravatt won. We thought they would be near the bottom of the ladder this season.. but not to be, improving so much as are Surfers, Sandgate , Magpies.... all of a sudden this comp is becoming quite even with good contests occurring weekly.Great for the comp..
Morningside still the side to beat by far.... May well go thru the home and away season unbeaten!!! Seen this happen plenty of times in various comps over the years, only to see this undefeated side get defeated in the grand final .!!!!! Food for thought,,, hey.

Really? Can't say I was around when PBC went a season being undefeated.
Maggie's game was pretty scrappy yesterday, got to say I thought we had our chances, particulary early. I believe Labrador can & will beat Morningside when it comes to the crunch, if they can keep their boys on the park.

If you got a touch giddy over Tom Mitchells stats in the twos........
Then take a deep breath, There's better suburban football in Melbourne than the NEAFL. which will always be a concern for QLD football.........

And after the NEAFL got beat by 15 goals by the WAFL maybe Damian is onto something?

Really enjoyed the atmosphere as well brizrider. My first away game this season!
I have been really happy with the standard so far in the QAFL. Think it will continue to be competitive for a while longer.
I do feel that Labrador when they get a few players back from injury may well be the only team that can genuinely challenge Morningside.
Will be an absolute cracker this week with Broady v Palmy. Hopefully another good crowd!

agree great atmos at Chelmer always has been even in the lean years, leave the QAFL as is for a while and it will be a good comp!!!

Some grounds lend to good atmosphere - Chelmer is one, Grange is another, PBC, as well imo. Any ground that allows for cars all the way round too and isn't too big.

What is defined as a good crowd down there Kittycat?? 1000?

I got down to Chelmer on Saturday expecting Broadbeach to dish out a bit of a hiding and was quite surprised, both by the standard of footy from both teams and the competitive nature of the match. I usually watch the lower leagues myself, the old Div 2 and also the Div 4 (now QAFA B, I encourage people to get along to these Friday night matches - they are crackers and surprising standard).

Sherwood certainly get plenty from #64 in the fluro boots, he is a gun. Can only assume he is coming from Redlands given the high number, yet also his clear ability. Broadbeach were a solid outfit, with 5-10 really good players, but they also had 3 or 4 blokes that didn't really belong at that level. I think their top end covers for that a bit though.

Thought Sherwood were unlucky in the last quarter with a few pretty crucial decisions, but overall the better side won. #64 took a nice contested grab and the umpires inexplicably called play on, which went from Sherwood having a shot on goal to Broady going length of field for a goal. Massive call at that point in the match. Then #1 for Broady went for a huge hanger, dropped it cold and was paid the mark. Think the umpire was just excited about how high he was!

Watched Palm beach belt Broadbeach today. Game was only 5 minutes old and the heavens opened pelting down rain for most of the game. Palmys bigger stronger bodies were to much for Broady in these conditions but must also say, they (Palmy) regardless of the weather, where far to good for us. On todays performance Palmy will be right up there this season.
