Watched the vic country vs sa game. Harry Mackay for me. 200cm, mobile, can mark. Lots of talent. Weitering and Schache are top notch but won't be available. Mackay probably won't be either if we don't finish low enough.

Best midfielder was Mathieson from Vic country. From Sa I liked Tahana. Liked him last year too. Lovely skills, doesn't waste a possession, quick but needs to find the ball a bit more. Francis has a lot of talent but in between height.

Like your note about Tahana. From this state so homesickness wouldn't be an issue and I especially like that he doesn't waste a possession. Some of our high possession players don't do too much with it. Ebert is the leading fantasy football player but possessions alone don't make your importance to the team.

What makes you say that Francis would be a high risk high reward pick? His game doesn't come across as flaky at all to me, from what I've seen I'd be pretty confident of him coming in and playing some pretty solid games at AFL level almost immediately.

Oh, I think he's an absolute star!

I just mean if we had pick 1 and Weitering and Schache are also available.

To go for the 190cm utility whose best position is a third tall defender over genuine quality key position prospects, hoping he'd develop into the game changer that could play anywhere is a risky move.

At the very least he'll make it as a rich man's Easton Wood, which is a great player. But a pick 1 for that when you've got a 199cm forward who is averaging 5 goals a game in the championships and the most can't miss key defensive prospect the league has seen for years?

Weitering has hands like Harry Taylor and a kick like the very best mids in the comp. He's unbelievable.

Word is Curnow is 194cm now and maybe a little taller by draft. He's likely to be a beast.

Yeah for me it's starting to shape up as

Mathieson - inside mid vic country
Partington - mid, not elite in any area other than ability to run and find the pill Sa kid
Charlie curnow - athletic tall forward , would depend if he has really grown , and if he is showing signs of actually knowing how to play as a key forward. Vic country
Tucker - hbf / wingman vic country
Burton - forward. Great hands , great leading sa kid

Then look at others for 2nd round like tahana and Mackay . Would be awesome if we knew where burton might slide to , if we knew he would slide to around the start of the 2nd round I would try to upgrade our 2nd round pick to the start to try to grab him.

Daniel Rioli good again for the Territory against NSW another couple of goals. In the previous game his disposals were at 82% in a midfield that was under plenty of pressure. He'll start coming under notice before long.

Ploppy has a point, the current rugby scrum footy is ordinary to watch... stoppages up 50% in 9 years.... bring the interchange cap back to 80 I say.
It's more than ordinary I can't watch it. I'm actually losing interest in the neutral game of footy pretty quickly as it's not entertaining and if it's not entertaining why do I bother?

I want the best forward and I'm willing to do whatever it takes.

Really good article about Burton in paper yesterday. He's nearly completed his rehab, would be good if he could play a few Sanfl games at the end of the year. Interesting to note that he wants to turn himself into a fyfe/pendlebury style mid. Apparently was an on baller before he grew as a forward. Would love to take him if with our pick around 8/9 as long as we do our homework on his leg. Hell if he turned out even as good as a Cripps mid, I'd be thrilled.
If we pass on Burton, then Curnow, Clarke or Partington for me.

Whats burton's bio

192cm 90kg forward Played as kpf last few years before leg break. reckon he'd be good enough to play as a second tall at afl level but definitely not a number one. Strong mark, good kick been compared to gunston but said in the article he'd rather become a fyfe type midfielder instead. Has apparently added ten kgs of muscle during rehab.

No risks with our 1st pick.

We can do that with Burton as a 3md or 3rd round choice if he gets the medical OK.

Won't get past pick 15. Stringer and Menzel are just a few who have similarly bad injuries pre draft and still were picked high. Stringer had a horrific leg break similar to burton and missed his draft year as well. Doggies took a punt on him at 5 and look at him now. Not that I don't love Ollie but we'd kill to have a forward like stringer in our team now.

We either take the risk at 8/9 or we don't. If he's the most talented/best suited and we've done all of our research, no reason we shouldn't take him.

If we think burtons leg is gonna be ok I'm ok with us taking him early , but think that our preferences probably should be Mathieson as an inside mid , then maybe Charlie curnow if we rate him. then partington , tucker or burton

We need a key position marking forward.A recruiting bloke(name?????) on the radio today said first six picks are forwards.

Schache ( gone before our pick) but hine was also counting weitering and Francis in that lot.

The forwards we have a shot at are curnow , burton , McKay , weiderman

Curnow is athletic , missed champs , burton small size 192cm broken leg , McKay isn't really a key forward as much as a tall flanker from the sound of it more like a westhoff. Weiderman is just a fancy at this stage as in people like his size , but not much production to back it up.

I'm more keen on Mathieson at this stage. Or curnow if he shows some good production or forward ability to go with that athletic promise. Apparently 95kg and a strong lad curnow.

We're obviously going to go in with a real pressing need; 2013 was speed - smalls, 2014 was height - one kpp for each end aswell as a ruck and a forward flanker; no one was under 188cms. This year it will be.......................................depth/mids? 185ish players with good skills. That's why im thinking ryan Clarke or more so Harley balic for the first round. in recent times there has been one outlier with the trend of one of our picks; Harvey and palmer im expecting us to pick up a mature aged recruit in the late picks in the nd whilst possibly trading for a depth type player forward from another club.

Though I would be over the moon if we got burton (#burtonbandwagon, #burtonorbust) I feel that we would go for that efficient mid
Balic
Clarke
Burton

If the Magpies side is any indication of balance we are going to need a young inside extracting midfielder coming through. With Ah Chee and Moore in the AFL side the cupboard was bare.

Some more pace around the flanks and wings would be handy too. Generally you should be able to find that type later in the draft but genuine mids are early gold.

We have more talls than we know where to play them even if you think Butch will be gone at year's end.

If Curnow is any chance of being a Darling type grab him.

I was calling for an inside extractor a couple of seasons ago , and being howled down by people telling me we had boak gray Ebert and broadbent as inside players lol. I wish I had been proven wrong but we are super super reliant on Robbie gray to get clean takeaways from stoppages. And gray himself is reliant on the ball actually spilling out so he can take it and run.

One to prehaps keep an eye on at the back end of the draft is Wylie Buzza 198cm 98kg. Did kick 5 for Queensland over the Northern Territory a couple of weeks ago ( maybe not fair considering the size of him) apparently only been playing football a couple of years very raw but a solid looking type.
