Well Johnson is listed at anywhere between 192-195. Roberton is 194. So let's just say they are the same height. And Roberton plays a similar role at the Saints as what Johnson does for us. Certain more like Johnson than he is like Spurr or Suttcliffe.

Point remains just a different player in question. Johnson is 30+ and Robertson is 23-24. Robertson was being groomed to replace the aging non KPD defenders and we have had to go back and refind another defender. We still used 4 slots I would have preferred used finding forwards.
Now I am sure you are all going to say that Ibbo has filled MJ's role well this year. But Ibbo is shorter than MJ and is much more of a HBF. So whilst he is doing well, the drop off in performance of the backline (since MJ's injury) tells me that he is no MJ. I remain unconvinced about him in the MJ role. Don't get me wrong he is playing well and I like him in the team particularly in defense and I don't think there is a better option in the team at the moment. But on balance I would prefer Ibbo playing as he did in the first 8 games and someone both taller and more courageous coming out of defense in the MJ role. Just my opinion.

I've heard from pretty reliable sources he is arguably the standout backman in the WAFL, AFL listed players included.

Please refrain from answering if your knowledge of him is limited to snapchat.

From what I have seen he looks like a really good third tall option. He's only 190cm and quite lightly framed, so would struggle against bigger forwards.

For me his strength is his kicking - he is one of those rare players who can hit a target 60 metres away, which can get you through a forward press - a la Shannon Hurn.

I'd rookie list him in a heartbeat then see if he has "grown up" from his days at Carlton.

Well he is 24, pretty social around the Adelaide scene, knows a few people. Put two and two together and you know. Fremantle are interested in him. Whether he leaves or not, that is the question.

Just to be clear, I never suggested he plays the same role as Spurr or Sutcliffe. He freed up a spot on our list and we have since acquired those two.

He was offered a contract extension in 2010 on top the standard two year contract every draftee gets. Why would he be offered another extension midway through his first extended contract?

Who knows where he may have ended up? As Tayl0r has said, he could well have ended up as a defensive mid or tagger. And given how the backline has struggled with injuries to Ibbotson, McPharlin, Johnson and Silvagni over the past few years, he may have played more games than many think.

I don't rate Roberton, but the club clearly did. And the club continues to rate a number of other players I don't, and continue to play them in the senior side, instead of Peel where they belong. So your to assertion that Roberton would be with Peel: I don't agree.

I reckon if he was still on the list he'd be getting regular games, people would be complaining that Alex Pearce is better and should get a game, and you'd be telling everyone that the club is in premiership mode, can't afford to gamble with young players and to back Roberton in.

I think I've made myself pretty clear on where I stand on the bloke.

For the record, I back the coach and MC in. That's where I stand. So your gripe isn't with me pal, it's with them. Maybe write the club and express your displeasure, or get a petition going to "Toss The Boss". I just back them to make the right decisions over armchair experts on BF.

Everybody knows we are in "premiership mode" as you call it, I'm hardly one out there.

Yeah I thought he was ok too. Not great, but a promising future. When drafted, I remember reading one of those draft profiles where he'd said that his playing style most resembled Andrew Mackie.

He was spot on. He's tallish, slender and agile. Not 'tough', but a solid contributor in the backline. (I don't think that highly of Andrew Mackie BTW. With Harley, Scarlett, Milburn et al Mackie was allowed to be the rebounding, not overly accountable, defender.)
