2009 was alright.I would compare it to 03 or 09. One of the worst of the modern era.
2009 was alright.
Martin, Cunnington, Rohan, Sheppard, Tahlia, Fyfe, Duncan, Gunston, Luke Ball (lololol).

I keep hearing about this draft like it's a steaming Mr Whippy.
Is it really that bad?
, M Brown 30 and likely gone as may Schofield 29.

Wasn't Tom Lamb drafted as a forward? He's 193cm and pretty sure he played his junior career as a KPP, although I could be mistaken. I know the club are planning to throw him onto a wing at one stage, but Schofield was a wingman before he played AFL.
We'll want Lamb playing in the middle I think. Get him around the contest as much as possible. His fitness would be wasted as a KPF and the talk of his ability to impact a game around draft time will have us giving him every chance to.
Don't know whether it's just me, but he reminds me of Chris Mayne, although with a higher ceiling hopefullyDon't think he has the football IQ to be a midfield or the touch. High half forward, presenting really hard and running back quickly towards goal. Think more athletic than darling but less grunt and much lower ability to read the play. Will take a few years. Still has the propensity to be a bust pick but already a better option than i originally thought. If he develops well think of somewhere in between nick riewoldt and staker. Hopefully more towards the riewoldt side.

Lamb is a pretty big unknown - could be anything, could be nothing. Going to be really interesting to see him develop, but not holding my breath.
We seem to have a pattern with drafts: first pick is as safe as can be, second pick is high risk.

Jetta is having a pretty solid year, i'd still rate his output above Sheppards (although they are different players)Or maybe the bloke in the first round is just generally more talented and therefore appears a lot safer
Gaff over Polec has worked well
I'd argue Sheppard over Jetta would be in our favour this year at least
Duggan over Weller/lever/laverde seems too early to call
About the only one that there is an argument is the downgrade of effectively aish to get sheed and karpany

Yeah it's not so much about our first picks being safe but more a tendency for us to use our second picks on our riskier choices. Judd and Naitanui would never have slid past pick 5, so we are talking about a hypothetical reach of two or three spots. In hindsight both players could have gone #1, so yeah.Judd, Naitanui...
Just saying we would have two more midfield options rather than two guys who will take some time to realise a role.Bit early to be claiming we should have gone for Blakely over Lamb and Jansen over Karpany, I would have thought.
Between the four of them they've played a total of 1 senior game.
