It happens. Djokovic beat Nadal at Roland Garros this year and went on to lose to Wawrinka in the final. Pennetta didn't have an easy run to the final. Stosur in the 4th round in what was actually a pretty good match with some quality tennis. Then beat Kvitova in the 1/4 final and Halep in the semis.I suspect Vinci would rue the fact she got over the biggest hurdle, beating Williams. Then losing the final to some within her range.
My mum is Italian born and she likes her tennis, so this morning I know that she was absolutely thrilled and excited. I agree Matt, it was a pretty special moment today. Both Pennetta and Vinci are very likeable and it is so good to see someone like Vinci make a GS final, with her game style. It still goes to show you that tennis is not just about bashing the ball hard all the time. And Pennetta, what a way to end your career, go out on an absolute high. She has had some very decent results at Flushing Meadows, so it is not a complete shock.
Looking forward to tomorrow. Fed in 4, possibly 3.
He is playing Djokovic. Maybe that's why.Federer has given up some loose points. It's like watching Federer of 2013 - wild shots that are landing well outside the baseline.

I did.I didn't question why it was happening?
