Both ultra impressive. Very lope-y running style and smooth kick. He will be a jet. Def midfield look about him. I think he'll be far too good for the snaffle
Agree with your assessment of Doedee's traits. Still very much screams Easton Wood to me though, minus the hangers (at this stage :P )

Training Report .....21st Dec 2016

Gallucci is already to play AFL now ...his kicking today no problems short, but can't comment on long kicks. He's quick we know, but in the aerobic running he was nothing stand-out .......AFL players have a sharpness about how they move and execute on the field ....Gallucci and Poholke still look to be traveling at Vic Metro levels & will take at least until the 2nd half of the season to have any show of a game this year .....IMO unlikely
Great write up.
Could you clarify this statement though please? You start by saying that Gallucci is ready to go at AFL level, and then finish by stating that he is at Vic Metro levels and unlikely to play in 2017 ??

He was named at HBF in 97 and at HFF in 98, but I'm sure he spent a lot of time in the middle in both GF's
My memory is fading but it was in 97 towards the end of the season, might have been Grand Final week on the way to the Brownlow and Bickley, Macca and co were flying to the Melbourne. Bickley was sitting next to Macca on the plane and Bickley was saying to Macca something like that playing midfield full time wasn't easy and not to get too cocky. Funny how that turned out and Macca became one of our best ever mids and won 2 Norm Smiths playing in the midfield.

Even without Hampton in the midfield mix I have ridden CEY off. I was chatting with my old man today and I made the comment I would take 20 Menzel disposals a game over 35 CEY disposals as I know the Menzel ones will hurt the opposition and not us. I see Hampton similar (not skill level) but ability to hurt the opposition.
I'd say skill level too. I love Hampton's kicking.

He started at least one game, if not both, on the HBF. I do recall later on there were issues with Ayres over McLeods role and to where he should play.

Wayne's-World azza77 & others, thanks for your training reports. :)

I know it is only 1 training session, but has it imfluenced your best 22? Would you have Hampton &/or Menzel in your side?
On what i saw yesterday ....yes, i'd have Menzel & Hampton in round 1 side, Knight i think is a given too .......they were just so dominant yesterday & if Pyke is true to his performance on the track ethos, it's hard to not see them in.

On yesterday, CEY didn't appear to be any better than last year & i'd prefer Hampton / Knight over CEY

Any word on Shooter? The kids gonna be a star.
It was very hard to pickup the talls yesterday .....but at the end Talia and Shooter were having the old kick to kick marking contest ....a trainer was kicking to the pair who were trying to outmark each other .....he looked good in the air, but sorry, not enough to make too many comments on

Wouldn't mind seeing your predicted 22 actually, Wayne, reckon it'd be a bit different to everyone else's

And no, I don't mean that I expect 22 Mackay's :P

Gallucci has no issues from having a body ready to play AFL ......his speed is good, and he looked assured and confident in the competitive skills sessions .....when it came to the running at the end he was, not struggling by any means, but not covering the ground as other young players ......Milera was beating him in the full oval lap runs by 200 mtrs

His running will improve with more AFL training, but atm there are others (Knight, Hampton, Menzel, Milera) who are well in front of him for a game

The other comment was re sharpness .....the speed at which you get the ball, make decisions, and dispose of the ball ....the AFL players work at level in this area that is noticeably sharper than players from lower level ......i just said that IMO he's still working at the Vic Metro intensity levels .....but he's only been in an AFL environment 3 weeks now, so that's expected

Just don't try naming teams based on pre Christmas training ......we tend to name teams on 2016 form & whilst i agree that probably 15 players name themselves, the other 3-5 positions could be anyone like a McGovern that came from the blue last year

That said Hampton, Knight, and Menzel would be in my side ATS ......but pre-season games will confirm that view or not ;)

Will say though, if you watch Mackay train, he looks a jet out there ......but i would have been attacked if i put that into the training report .....so personal safety prevailed by not mentioning him :p

I guess my question is, how would you get them in the 22? Who would you take out of the Sydney game's 22? Lyons, Thompson, Douglas, Mackay?

IMO Thompson probably plays round 1 .....Lyons is a given, and Mackay IMO is the player most at threat, given it was our wing positions (inc Atkins) that in that game let us down

The rest is form based over pre-season

Awesome, everyone in career best training form. Silly season seems to get sillier every year. Yes, bah humbug.
Then simply log-off if you're not interested in reading anything from training ......or are you just interested in the hysterical negatives

Menzel and Hampton must play round 1. We didn't get them for depth.

If those 2 plus Knight play and Brouch is back in top nick, then we are already a much improved side on our Sydney semi final team.

There is upside in this group.

Feeling good
:thumbsu: only takes 2-3 players injected into a team to dramatically change a teams mix ....that plus maybe a positional change or 2

Yes, that's all I am ever interested in. I think you have hysterically accused me of hysteria. I have logged off for large periods because of the negativity actually. Training reports are fine but their worth is exaggerated beyond belief, particulary given most of them are closed anyway.

Then look at my training report from last year and see how far off i was .......IIRC i predicted Menzel not playing despite this boards outcry that talent would prevail

I agree i report means little in the big scheme of a seasons preparation .....but if 1-2 things are highlighted ?? .....but if you're being a mr cynic, then nothing i'll say will change that

Didn't go to the session but my report is that all the guys we want to come good this year (ie young guys) are "training the house down" and the old guys look slow in comparison.

And Eddie likes to wear skirts

You would think up to 8 players will be based on pre season form whether they make round 1

Sloane, Betts, Walker, Lynch, JJ, Crouch x 2, Smith, Talia, Laird, Hartigan, Jacobs, Lever, Douglass if fit will play round 1

The rest have to earn their spots based on form, will be an interesting pre season games on who can impress and show their worth
