Really? I've only read people shitting on the decision.

Seems pretty strong consensus that the club are fools and we obviously know better.

Most would agree that Thommo has been an outstanding player of his years easily top 10 if not top 5 of crows throughout its history

The club has clearly taken a punt, which may have been forced due to the fact we didnt get Gibbs or an absolute quality mid into the team.

If Thommo pulls it off, it will be a fantastic punt if not., the alternatives are somewhat of a punt aswell.

One thing the club probably took into consideration is Thommo's durability he has managed to get to 300 games bugger all players do this, because their bodys dont hold up or they arent good enough, Tex has no chance of playing three hundred for example. Everyone knows thommo keeps himself in great shape all year not just at footy time.

Its a punt but considering the alternatives its one worth taking, the only thing I would say if they plan on using him as an insurance policy for injuries then he shoudl have been rookie listed. I feel they are using him as an insurance policy for youngsters who they bring in who cant cut it in the big time, which is why he is on the main list

It doesn't really matter what Menzel or Knight or Milera do or how they train (well it does but only to a degree). The only thing that will impact their season is if we're prepared to move a first choice 22 player from last season out of the line up.

Geee. Why would they even bother turning up then if according to you nothing will change with the 22. All 3 of these will be in the 22 next year.

Pretty sure if you force selectors to take notice in the pre season they will get picked

Not just a couple of nice things but a solid consistent game if you haven't worked out that's how Pyle operates with consistency they never will

He's just going from history. Reality says that Mackay and Douglas will be kept in the 22 ahead of less experienced guys, so you're saying that the aforementioned 3 players will most likely have to push out players who you would still want to be in the 22. Who would the 3 players be??

I think Milera can be a regular but I'm not sure about the other 2.

I hope so too, but all three will only be in the 22 if three of the regulars from last season are missing out (Lyons/Seedsman injury cancels itself out).

Seedsman was out injured which meant we didn't have to make a call on Lyons/Mackay/whoever for the last spot in the 22.

With your obvious elite knowledge of football, determining that the club is a shit decision maker, pls go to the prediction threads and do some predictions. There's one on where we'll finish next year, how we'll go over the next 3 or 4 and one on how many games thommo will play.

I look forward to your predictions, I predict that you'll say we'll obviously finish bottom 8 with our poor decision making, with thommo playing all 22 and we'll struggle to even make finals over the next 3 or 4.

If you stay out of them, I'll assume your an unknowledgeable pussy who just likes to be negative after the fact and then claim that as "knowledge" ....and then I'll call you out on such.

Thommo can't play defence; players his height need to be quick and agile to play in defence, otherwise they'll never be able to keep up with their opponents. For Thommo it will be like Reilly versus Watts but even worse.

That said, I think the club is well aware of this and is just feeding the public some optimism for those supporters who have trouble letting go of long serving favourite players.

Thommo, mackay, douglas, cheney seem most likely to be pushed out with
Hampton, CEY, Menzel, Doedee, Greenwood, wigg as likely spot competition.

It's highly likely Hampton and Menzel won't give the selectors an opportunity to drop them.

There will be some opportunities for young players just like there were for Gov and Milera last year

I'm still not convinced on Menzel and Hampton but pre season games will tell more

Nah, he has done alright so far. I'll be honest the late season fade out was a completely shit effort by the club, to be at the top of every predictor for the premiership and then fall in a heap without giving so much as a yelp, verging on unforgivable. Selection policy late in the season contributed to that no doubt, injured players in the 22, players not performing in the 22, it wasn't many, but you don't need to be off by much to lose big in finals, losing 2-3 contests across the ground can cascade, especially if those contests are in the middle. Now in some ways his hands were/are tied, in terms of available personnel, but Pyke could have made these decisions in 2016, to rest players that needed to be rested, but he didn't, or couldn't convince the rest of the selection committee to do it. The big test will be this year of course, can he and the club recognise they made mistakes, learn from those mistakes and then make different decisions at the selection table. If Pyke can make that happen I think he will go on to be a successful head coach, may even get us that long awaited 3rd premiership, but if he can't, he will join the other also ran coaches we have had since Blight (not counting Walsh). Such a significant change in selection policy would certainly be a first since Blight, but thus far I haven't seen much public indication that we are headed that way.

Thisi s where I differ, Pyke has final say and so he should if he didnt want Thommo this year he could say so, his arse is on the line and is responsible for the efforts of the team the most out of any other member of a selection committee or what ever.

If he didnt want Thommo he would be gone, the selection committee may or may not have convinced him to kepp him we dont know either way but it is ultimatley Pykes decision and so it should be who would want the job if you are reliant on others
