Remember we played West Coast and he killed that guy?
That was round 9. I assumed after that we realized that dinosaur defenders have no place anymore, and sent him to China to go some promotional stuff before we traded or delisted him. Apparently not.

Terrible 2015, 9 games in 2016. 3 year deal. Ok.

I just don't understand list management. 3 yrs for Jonas is a ******* joke. Not convinced he's best 22, did bugger all last year apart from belting someone. Will likely take game time from Clurey (watch us lose him). Probably should have been delisted, at most should have got a 1 yr extension. WTF is it with giving fringe players multi year contracts? Does our list management never learn?

Sadly the answer is a resounding No.

After two years of shameless mediocrity not one player will be traded. The closest we got was publicly threatening to trade Hartlett who, somewhat predictably, pointed out that we gave him tenure so we can GAGF.

Round we go again with the same blokes expecting (or maybe just praying for) a different result. Something about insanity.

I currently have Jonas in ahead of Clurey, not by much mind you. Another pre-season could easily change the pecking order.
Mind if I ask on what basis?
Clurey:
- better endurance, speed and agility
- better disposal
- solid defender even on opposition's second KPD
- lacks experience (?maturity/composure)

Jonas:
- solid defender on 3rd tall
- experienced but still makes poor decisions (late hits, questionable disposal choices, looks at umpire with big doe eyes when he takes the ball over)
- member of 8-man leadership group
- has been neutered following suspensions for hard hits causing injury/concussion
- inferior athlete cf. Clurey

Surely if it's close between the two you pick the bloke that's three years younger, has an extra 5cm and has shown plenty of signs that he can grow into a ten year player for us down there? I don't mind Jonas at all, I think he's good depth, but Clurey hasn't done a lot wrong. Sit him down and tell him it's his spot to lose. Instill a bit of confidence in him, let him have a run of games and develop him. Get some new blood in there, we are crying out for it.

That's perfectly reasonable. It's hard to gauge if Jonas will be a walk up start but there isn't much evidence to suggest he wouldn't be. In any case, given how it's very rare for our top 3 KPDs to be available for the entire season, whomever is 4th in line will still play plenty of AFL.

They obviously think they can get 3 quality players in this draft otherwise this deal would not have been done. As much as it is hard to do and I can understand the angst I think we just have to have faith that they know what they are doing. Time will tell whether or not this is a good deal, so I will reserve my judgement. I also think there must be a plan to get back in to the first round next year that we do not know about. Or maybe I just have my RCG's on...

Having said that the Jonas deal makes absolutely no sense to me. Unless he is on much reduced money and is being kept as a back up player. It wouldn't make any sense to play him and have Clurey spend another year in the SANFL.

There were plenty of us on TPFP who got stuck into the club when it c*cked up, but it's probably fair to say we were in the minority.

In my opinion one of the biggest problems on that site was the complete inability of many posters ( the RCG wearers ) to come to terms with the fact that Choco had lost the plot, and his continued drafting of has beens, never was players ( I could insert numerous names here ), and ring a ring a rosey game plan, was taking the club nowhere.
In fact there were 3 or 4 who were so over the top in their support, that I suspect they may have had some connection with him, and I'm not referring to the obvious individual.

Even the slightest criticism of the bloke would bring forth a barrage of complaints, and I must admit to being very pleasantly surprised when I joined this site and found there were plenty of straight shooters on here that didn't hold back on their opinions of the whole sorry Choco saga.

I reckon Jonas is alright depth, and if we could actually get rid of the other list cloggers, keeping him wouldn't be a problem.

3 years though? Go and get ****ed.

At this point, Jonas is statistically superior to Clurey although I'm not really fussed if Clurey is viewed as the better player. I just haven't seen it yet. If Clurey improves on his 2016 performances, he'll easily pass Jonas and I'm guessing it'll just be a matter of time.

Also, the club must view Jonas as best 22, I don't know many fringe players that are offered 3 year deals (we give them 4 or 5 year deals ;)).

On the plus side, today's trade result does make this year's draft much more interesting for us. We need badly to rejuvenate our list and this gives us some opportunity to do so. We just need to make sure that this isn't a 2004 type result where we ended up with nothing to show for lots of draft picks (Thomson, Willits, Eckerman, DeLuca, Ezard) or 2010 where we missed some beauties in taking Jacobs, Newton and Young.

We need to get back to recruiting pure footballers IMHO. Unearth another Ollie Wines with pick 9, and then Callan Ward and Luke Parker types with picks 19 and 30 and much will be forgiven.

3 years though? Go and get stuffed.

To be fair when you take out the inevitable multi-week suspensions it's probably closer to a 2 year deal.

Isn't it pathetic that at the end of the season we heard things like we are going to be "ruthless", "we will not accept mediocrity", "there will be changes"

And 3 weeks later we are looking like we have
- Traded no players in
- Traded no players out
- Done some shit trade, done using point system so that we could "break even" if we finished above 11th
- and then signed a player that has been one of the main culprits of our fall into mediocrity to a 3 year contract

lol, never change port.. Bad decision after bad decisions. Can't wait to hear O'Shea has re-signed next!

Remember we played West Coast and he killed that guy?

I've been meaning to talk to you about that. Jonas should find himself a safe house or a relative close by because he's probably wanted for murder.

The most alarming things for me today were Cripps' three responses when interviewed:
1. We were satisfied with the trade based on the AFL's calculator system.
2. His chats with other club recruiters had reassured him that this year was a deep draft.
3. If we finish 11th, we break even.

In isolation, each of these responses would be cause for concern. Together they betray a sub-mediocre mentality that has besieged our list management team. If KT and Koch don't act to eradicate this type of "rationale" from our list decision makers and coaches immediately, then we are going to sink back into the depths of the Primus years very, very quickly.

Our coaches and players talk about Port Adelaide football, while having no idea what it actually is.
Cripps' dribble today was very un-Port Adelaide like.

Id like to see the contract before passing judgement. Jonas is fierce and hits hard. He dropped off in confidence and made a lot of dickhead type errors. Of course Ill remain optimistic and keep my RCG on. Even in bed.

This basically sums it up. Over promise under deliver. The clubs MO.

lol dude, what the hell is with Jonas' penchant for getting caught holding the ball. Every single time he gets caught he plays dead and looks at the umpire from under the pack like he's begging to be called holding the ball. Make an effort Thomas.

A Bulldogs supporting mate of mine was asking about O'Shea and said there was talk of a 3-way deal with us giving him to the Dogs, them sending Hrovat & 40 to Carlton & something coming our way.

Not sure what we could expect to get from Carlton out of that but if the Dogs wait long enough we'd probably end up just delisting Cam they could just deal with the Blues & pick him as a DFA if they were that keen on adding him as depth.

Its not all that hard to go back over the years and pick out the dud draft choices made.

Like 2007 where we picked up Lobbe, Marlon Motlop, Matthew Westhoff and Mitch Farmer at 16, 28, 33 and 49 :P

Every. ****ing. Time.

Actually, it is very Port Adelaide like. Circa 2007 to present, Cripps interview is actually a pretty spot on, pissweak response our club would give.
