Our list is so bad.
On The Couch did a pretty stark breakdown of our projected list for 2018. Not a great deal of currency there.

Not sure how much genuine A grade talent lies in our under 25's if we take the purple glasses off for a sec (AP, Weller, maybe a Blakely or Tucker might blossom)

Our 25-29 year bracket is bog ordinary besides the obvious cream at the top (Fyfe, Walters, Hill, Bennell) The rest are also rans at best. Wouldn't expect many of them to still be on the list in 2 years to be frank.

Our 30+, Igbo and perhaps Spurr would be the only ones left on current form and fitness.

Thanks for the info, pretty sad :( I think sigvani should be delisted , injured more than playing.

Was just looking at who we might be losing this year... I think (I'm not certain about all our contracts so let me know if any are wrong) we have 12 guys on our senior list who will be out of contract and 4 guys on the rookie list. This is how I see them:

Retire/Delists - Pavlich, Mzungu, Silvagni, Hannath
Free Agents - Mayne, Clarke, De Boer, C.Pearce
Resigns/Trades - Neale, Barlow, Grey, Langdon
Rookies - Morabito, Smith, Deluca, Hurley (cat-B)

We obviously can't lose all 16 from our list as we'd have no way to fill their spots from the 3 drafts. I think it is more likely we'll lose about half of these and then have something like 5 picks in the ND, and 3 on our rookie list. Given so many, I think it is also unlikely we'll trade any players still under contract (eg Ibbo, Sutcliffe, Sheridan, Crozier).

What do others think?

I will be very surprised and somewhat pissed if ZClarke, CMayne, MDeBoer, TMzungu and MBarlow are at the club next year. Barlow should have trade value and could get a priority pick for Clarke.

Big question marks obviously on LNeale. I think of the rookies JDeluca may go and pressure has to be on AMorabito to perform in the second half of the year with the others to be re-rookied.

Havent seen any of him only that he is an indigenous midfielder/small forward.

Care to share some info?
Think josh Simpson with massive work ethic and better kick... Off both feet
He's hill, on both feet
He's a Cyril mould, but geared for midfield. Same step and awareness. Knows where to run, knows what to do with it, then will deliver it

There's a few similarities for you

What impresses me most about him is that he seemingly has eyes in the back of his head that see ten metres away, and he dishes the handball to that free player, none of this 1m handball rubbish.

Very creative ball movement.

I think essendon would have to be looking at Will Brodie. Vic boy & in the mould of a Watson type, who they may need to replace.

Usually there's a stand out already by the time u18s roll around. Unless a key forward/back has a ripper tournament, like Marshall (was excluded from GWS) we will likely be picking a mid. SPS definitely the one we'd want.

Don't see Freo finishing bottom, most likely 16th, so will he last until then? Brisbane have any academy picks this year? Both them & essendon would jump at Marshall if he dominates the u18s. Especially Brisbane I think with their pretty decent mids already.

Edit - hate to say it at the same time, but Freo might have to look at trading their first pick to get 2 in the first round somehow. Pick 2 or 3 for 8 & 15 or something like that. Not sure how it would work, but they do need talent & fast. An extra 1st rounder next year would be handy too.

If Freo could get 2 1st rounders this & next year, plus McCarthy then huge tick!

GC are the team to trade with this period if we get pick 1.

1st do McCarthy trade

2nd - trade pick 1 for 4 & 10 off GC (they have Melbs 1st rounder)

3rd - draft a classy mid with pick 4 (hopefully SPS) then a KPP at 10.

Win. If. It was only that easy :(

If we get pick 1 and trade it I will be pissed, but as someone already posted, if it was for say, McCarthy, Tomlinson and a pick in the top 10, that's alright.

Pretty sure we are the last team too trade pick 1.
I seem to recall something like the afl wanted to sign-off or approve it if a club wanted to trade pick 1. Has anyone else heard something like this?

Did anyone else hear Brian Waldren on 6pr tonight? I didn't hear it properly but it was along the lines of he had mail that the AFL will weight the top picks this year and those who have been down the bottom consistently over the last few years will get the higher picks. Even if Freo finish last we will get something like pick 5 :rage:

Yep, that'd be about right!

Surely can't do this without engaging with clubs first...otherwise am sure you'll see the purple haze storming down afl hq

I'm not sure what all the fuss about Ed Langdon is. He has shown nothing. His skills are average at best. Yes, he is quick and has great endurance but this isn't an iron man Comp.
