People seem to think if the player isn't a gun then we should 'get them in the PSD or delisted free agent'. That's not how it works guys, I mean do you honestly expect Richmond to let Conca walk for nothing?

Personally, I think he could play a role, doesn't have to star but he'd offer something good enough to be best 22. Better than Suban and can play in the back half where it's effectively Spurr then no one from a small defensive perspective

Conca isn't really any better than Clancee, DeBoer, Mzungu, etc. I suppose he is a bit younger, but if we want him then it better not cost us much. Being a top 6 pick means nothing when it comes to his value, as it was just a really poor decision (and I remember he was a bit of a late bolter/surprise) from Richmond.

I'm with ya mate. Seeing as we don't have any second round picks, or at least yet, hopefully it's a third round trade, though I'd be very surprised.

I just assumed he wasn't getting games and was gonna get cut from Richmond's list to be honest. I was approaching it that we were throwing a lifeline at someone who has battled injury but has talent

Oh I wasn't targeting you, it's just been a trend on here for a while. Conca is an interesting one though, injury struggles/prone and hasn't been in the best of form for a while. I think he'd be ok and play a role, but Richmond would want a second round for him.

Fair Point and you make a good point, but currently Our Backline isn't intimidating for which I find it fragile. This year has been an example of who can and who cant when under extreme pressure. As for the Forward line if can get Smith and Apeness to smash the backs and bring the ball to the ground I feel we will be incredibly dangerous. Having the Midfield depth we will have who can go forward makes it so much more potent and dangerous.

Of course this will need to be with a full healthy lst
You think our backline is weak and needs support and that our forward line will be fine based around 2 guys who have played 6 games. ...have I got it right or did I miss something critical?

What he might have been implying is that a forward line of McCarthy, Tabs, Ape, Yarran, Walters and Balla might be a great blend and stronger than this years unit - if you project development into the 4 of those players. It would certainly be more balanced than what we've had.

Remember also we should have quite a mouth watering midfield unit delivering it in there - Fyfe, Bennell, Neale, Mundy, Hill, Barlow, Blakely, Weller, SPS (with Sandy knocking it down).

It's all about hope right now!

What? Our midfield benefits our backline just as much if not more than our forward line.

I also can't see why you would project any development into Apeness, McCarthy (who we don't have and is likely to be underdone imo) or even Yarran (the other player mentioned was Smith who is a real shot in the dark), but we will certainly be losing Pavlich and possibly Mayne. That is a recipe for instability because we have no like for like replacements for either.

Taberner is the only forward who looks like having any development in 2016. The others will have minimal development compared to Crozier or Collins for example who looks set for a good stint back there. Into our backline next year comes MJ and A Pearce. Right there is a massive difference, and we are unlikely to lose anyone of significance. On the fringe we have Hughes and Tucker developing and some additional tall options who create at least as much optimism as Smith.

You assume correctly if he is not traded by Richmond he will be cut, his disposal and decision making under pressure is very ordinary. The last thing we need at Freo is someone who keeps turning it over.

With the West Australian reporting that Brad Hill wants to come home and has met with Ross what do people think is a realistic trade? For Hawthorn to accept a deal (he is contracted) I personally think a trade like Sutty and a future second rounder would be the minimum. I think he fits a massive need in us getting better on the spread from a contest. Would love him in purple. I know plenty here disagree, but geez surely it is obvious we need to get quicker and more skilful through the midfield.

I think he compliments the inside grunt of Neale, Mundy, Blakely and Fyfe wonderfully. Is a much, much better player than some here think when his name has been mentioned previously in the trade thread. His average of 18 possessions a game over his career doesn't compare badly to S.Hill's average of 19.3. He has also has been very high in goal assists over the entire league. His kicking into the forward fifty has always been elite.

We've been doing that of late (Bennell, Yarran, Balic, Apeness.etc) and it hasn't worked out too well so far.

Better to target players like Collins who are 'ready made' and injury free.

A low second round pick will do it.

Lever, J Selwood and Stringer all had injury issues before being drafted.

No chance, none, not even a 0.00001 chance that will happen. Brad Hill is actually one of the better kicks in the afl into the forward fifty over an extended period of time.

The targets he's kicking too in the F50 might have a little say in his stats... Not sure he'd look quite as good pinging it into Ballas against a tall defender or Tabs being double teamed.

Very awkward time to be giving key draft picks. 2nd round is my maximum.

So you want to delist Apeness and Yarran and not pick up McCarthy? If you can't see significant development coming in 2017 from these players, that should rationally be our course of action.

I seriously do not want a like for like replacement for Mayne should he leave - I want a forward who can kick goals reliably. Yarran may offer something roughly analogous with more speed, superior goal kicking accuracy, better than expected marking ability, but presumably far less pressure/tackling ability.
