SO at this point, it looks like:

1. ESS - McCluggage still best pick and they won't hesitate
2. GC - Bowes (BRIS Bid, GC Matched) might be our best shot for Bowes bid here
3. BRIS - McGrath heard they're keen - would be great option for them
4. FRE - English/SPS firmly believe they should go with homegrown talent here, but could surprise
5. CAR - Brodie please please please

I expect to see at least one of those picks under us to be traded out. Probably Essendons pick 1.

Pick 1 GWS McGrath
Pick 2 Bris ( bid on Bowes) Pick 2 GCS Bowes
Pick 3 Bris Anisworth
Pick 4 Freo English
Pick 5 Carl McCluggage Brodie Scrimshaw

All we need to do is get the Clugg to do a Wingard and say he wants to stay in Victoria. This year will be a rare year which the first 4 picks could all be interstate clubs. With picks this high they'll take local talent or kids who are very keen on moving away from home and make all the right noises about moving interstate long term.
SOS should be all over this.

It would be nice. But even if we miss on the Clugg, were still going to get one of
Brodie- best clearance player of this draft
McGrath best ball carrier of this draft
Anisworth best forward mid of this draft.
Scrimshaw most upside of this draft
SPS best disposal of this draft.

We really can't lose with our first, no matter what picks get traded and who ends up with what.
IMO we really need to add some goal scoring power, not so much key position as the talls on offer this year are not really what we're looking for and I'd rather we wait and see what Harry Mac Charlie Curnow and Jack SOS can offer. I'm thinking Anisworth could be a very good fit for us. We don't have a small forward like him, he would be a difficult match up as he is only 179cm, but he has a serious leap on him and plays much taller. Would certainly add some goal scoring power to our forwardline and our midfield, can be a very dynamic player both as a forward and a midfielder.

I don't want Ainsworth, but very happy with one of McLuggage, Brodie, McGrath, SPS or Scrimshaw, in that order.

Why no love for Ansiworth ? Just don't rate him ?
Don't see him putting in performances worthy of a top 5 pick at AFL level due to his size.

He's a physically mature body so excels in the forward line at TAC but I think his performance is inflated by that. If we had another pick in the #6-10 range i'd pick him up.

He certainly is pretty developed physically. The height thing is a concern @179cm, but he is same height as McGrath.
I'd just think he would add something to both our forward line and our midfield. We could really use a hard running leading/crumming small forward/mid.

Do you pay pick #5 for those types though? I want a Brownlow meddalist winning midfielder at that pick.

So robbie Gray isn't worth pick 5 to you? Personally, as juniors, I think they play an almost identical game. Only Ainsworth has produced more, more often.

If he was available in last years draft, I would have taken him top 4 only behind Weitering, hopper and schache.

If it was based only off his forward play, you are right pick 5 is a bit high. But in the second half of the year he really showed he can play through the midfield, win plenty of contested footy, win clearances and still have 5 + shots on goal. As a forward/mid he becomes a extremely valuable player.
At 179cm I can see why people are concerned, but look at players like Lachie Neale 176cm 2nd in the AFL for contested possession, plenty of elite players under 180cm in the AFL.

I'll go a long way out and predict that McCluggage & McGrath won't be available to us at #5, so with what's left to us, I reckon:

1. Brodie
2. Taranto
3. Scrimshaw
4. Ainsworth
5. Petrevski-Seton

So it will be between Taranto & Brodie..................................and I'll look back and realise how silly this idea was later.

Who do you want

In for Ainsworth.

If Brodie is gone.

Height is far too overrated. Just look at Daniel and the impact he's had.

He's almost there most important player with the composure and the way he delivers the ball around the 50. Get the best football player available.

Brodie has 'slipped' in media power rankings due to a tired finish to the year and massive bolts from the likes of McGrath, Ainsworth and Clugga not to mention Taranto and Scrimshaw.

We need to capitalise and take the guy who was a standout #1 just 2 months ago if he's available.

Everyone :)

Brodie seems the safest bet and maybe the most required.
What's the general view on Scrimshaw? He would be seen as having possibly the most upside in the draft, little bit of Pendlebury in him, I guess the big question is will he be able to play midfield at AFL level. Guys like Heppell and Fyfe weren't playing midfield in their draft year. Clubs will be doing their homework on this kid as he looks seriously talented and could even be gone before our pick but I don't think you would want to spend a top 5 pick on him if he is only ever going to be a hbf.

Gold Coast are after inside midfielders. I would be amazed if they overlooked Brodie at pick 4. Think it would be crazy if they did overlook him because they desperately need someone who can play inside day 1 to replace Prestia and omeara.

Therefor would be surprised if he's available to us.

(Brisbane would be stupid to bid on Bowes because they won't get him anyway and would just antagonise Gold Coast.)

Then I'm in for Ainsworth.
