There is meant to be some very good footage of Marshall from the weekend, that is pretty impressive.
He only kicked 3 or 4 goals but he took some great marks and had a quite a few absolutely stunning chase down tackles.
Heard some recruiters were really impressed with the footage, particularly the case down tackles and were asking each other if they'd mange to see it yet.

I still think we could be a sneaky chance to nab Brodie or McCluggage.

What's your gut feel should we hang onto pick 4?

Brodie, Mcluggage, Marshall, Ainsworth. At least one of them is gonna be ours.

(Don't rate SPS personally)

Each to their own. From the little I've seen of SPS i'd take him if he was there at 4.
Don't expect Brodie or McCluggage to be there, and I don't think we'd take a risk on Marshall.

Definitely keep that pick.
With pick 4 I be very hopeful of getting Brodie or McCluggage. Think Freo will go a local either English or SPS.
Brisbane will be very wary of who they take. Brodie or McCluggage may be the clear top two, but Brisbane just can't not afford to draft a kid @2 and lose him after 2 years.
Even if those two are off the table, McGarth SPS Anisworth and Marshall would all be great additions to our list.

We really need to somehow manufacture another top 10 pick.

Would love a combo of Ainsworth and Venables in the side.

Brodie and McCluggage are wishful thinking and highly unlikely. We'll end up with pick #5.

On talent I'd take him at 4. The go home factor does concern me a little, particularly because we would be using such a high pick.

The go home factor with him could be huge. Correct me if I'm wrong, but because of the indigenous culture placing a huge importance on family, it could be very risky for us to draft SPS regardless of his undeniable talent.

Harley Bennell, Brad Hill.. both indigenous talents who have been drawn back to WA. Eddie Betts back to SA. Those are a few off the top of my head but I'm sure there is a correlation there or at least a higher chance of it happening.

I like McCluggage, Brodie, Scrimshaw, Marshall in that order.

I'd like to think we'll follow last year's theme of only drafting Victorians again. Players have too much power these days and even clubs are now getting in thier ears mid season about coming home.

Like Richmond did with Yarran? :)

Glad we didn't adopt that strategy in 2013.
You just have to go for the talent/character combo and if that's an inter-stater...so be it.

If the rumours about Gibbs heading back to SA are true, we should get a first rounder for him at the very least.

Gibbs to Port for pick#9.

Touhy to Sydney for #16.

Casboult + Pick#40 to Brisbane for pick #24

Leaves us with: Pick #5, #9, #16, #22 and #24

Pick #16 to GWS for Marchbank.

Pick #5 -> Ainsworth (SF/IM)
Pick #9 -> Venables (HFF/IM)
Pick #22 -> Battle (KPF)
Pick #24 -> Clarke (IM)

IF this happens, our future defence will consist of: Docherty, Marchbank, Plowman, Byrne and Weitering
Our future forwards: C.Curnow, Silvagni, McKay, Ainsworth, Battle,
Our future mids: Murphy, Cripps, Venables, Clarke, 2017 1st pick, Boekhorst, Cuningham, 2017 2nd pick

The added bonus of this is Charlie can also play as a mid and Venables can go forward and they will both have an impact in those areas as well. Ainsworth also capable of going mid. It just adds a dynamic to our playing group that makes us unpredictable and gives us options.

We also have Ben Silvagni coming in the 2018 draft. He will be another KPF.

I'd be pretty happy with that.
Gibbs aint going anywhere... Don't know how many times this has to be mentioned.

16 for Marchbank alone is probably a bit much... they can throw in Tomlinson and Steele for that and maybe our third round picks.

It's well known that it's highly unlikely that he'll be traded.

But no one is immune for the right offer. Remember that. Especially in our situation, we are still a while away from being competitive with the stronger teams. By the time we start reaching the 8 again, Gibbs will be toward the end of his prime.

Ok how about #22 for Marchbank then?

Pick #16 -> Scrimshaw

I'm really not fussed about Tomlinson, if they throw him in for an extra later pick then why not, but I don't see him becoming anything more than a depth player.

Steele will have too much competition with other clubs. Will increase his value. Not worth getting involved.

MS3 is known for having inside mail Blue_Fusion I don't think he was stating an opinion so much as expressing the inside word

Inside sources have been wrong from time to time. You never know what will happen, there's a rumour that Gibbs wants to head back to SA so I just based my trade ideas around that.

In any case, I would like to see SOS work some magic and get us an extra top ten pick this year. There's 5 players after Brodie and McCluggage that I think can really make a difference to our side going forward. Ainsworth, Venables, SPS, McGrath and Marshall. In that order. Getting two of those, particularly one being Ainsworth or Venables is important. If we're lucky both.

Having a forward line with McKay, Charlie, SOS, Venables and Ainsworth would be really dynamic and tough to stop once they all develop together.

Should be stickied at the top of each page of this & similar threads.

Gibbs' name will always be thrown up in here for trade as long as he continues to take his picnic blanket out onto the ground with him once every 3 or 4 games.

In reality though, it is as obvious as the nose on Bill Lawry's face that he has long had zero intention of ever leaving Carlton. He is entrenched there and extremely comfortable. His latest contract means he is ours til the end.

We have to just take his considerable good, and frustratingly reliable bad....and get on with other things.

Never assume anything when it comes to trade week stranger things have happened .
The landscape when it comes to player movement has changed recently players now can change clubs much more easily than they use to be able to . As you say gibbs most likely will stay and i agree he will . But Its that time of year again where all and sundry get mentioned in a possible trade and not just by us BF junkies . Thats the landscape of our game . The fact that gibbs is a south australian also lends itself to the talk .

I'd trade gibbs for ferrisb in a heartbeat! :p
Overrated. Hangs around the periphery looking to capitalise on the work of others. Delivery is suspect.

Chance Brisbane gets a priority pick? They've been a basket case a long time now. If they AFL isn't going to give them one now, when on earth would they EVER give one?

Hypothetically, if they do get one, will it impact our draft much? Moving from 4 to 5?
