Happy to stick my flag in the sand on the fact he won't go first round
English is

1. Painfully thin - no core strength
2. Will take 5 years to develop, if he does
3. Poor hands

He's just a midfielder that had a growth spurt .....does not make him anything like a sure bet AFL ruckman .....and a team is going to wait 5 years, ala Cordy? ......nope

What you described sounds like Kepler Bradley to me! No thanks!

Just initial thoughts .....really cursory
  1. McCluggage .....Brad Crouch type
  2. McGrath ..........haven't watched closely
  3. Taranto ........... plays a bit like Camporeale
  4. Ainsworth ........ IMO could be the best of the top 10
  5. Brodie ............. looks a good steady player without the "X" factor
  6. SPS ................ "X" factor galore ...as good as Bennell
  7. Bowes ............ haven't watched closely
  8. Perryman ........ hasn't had me sitting up in my chair
  9. Logue ............. need to watch more
  10. Setterfield .........need to watch more
  11. Venables ........... need to watch more
  12. Florent ............. has some real toe , but we have that covered with Milera
  13. Berry ............... if i had to bet money, i don't think we'll take Berry
  14. Scrimshaw ........ Yep, really like the left footer, has a touch of class
  15. Ridley ............... need to watch more
  16. Gallucci ............. was the pick of the 2015 group, hasn't kicked on, but he's classy
  17. Marshall ............. Nope, will drift, not good one on one, and not great hands
  18. Drew ..................looks good in his age group, but struggled in the next grade up
  19. SPP ....................If he can think, has the game and physique we're looking at
  20. Scheer ................ need to see more
  21. Battle ................. has a touch of something special, good size 192cm, 3km ex
  22. Witherden ............?
  23. Fisher .................. ?
  24. Simpkin ...............?
  25. English.................:p
  26. Hayward............... Gives 110% at junior level, how much more is there?
  27. Poholke ................ ?
  28. B Cox ................... Looks a good type
  29. Macreadie ............. ?
  30. Atley .................... ?
  31. Scharenberg ......... Not inconceivable we take him, but pace may be the neg
  32. Rotham ................ ?
  33. Stengle ................ ? ..What about Le Bois?
  34. Clarke ................. Nope, vanilla
  35. Piper ...................?
  36. Allison ................. :hearts::hearts:

Yeah very similar .....tall playing as a wing at junior level, couldn't put on weight, or gain the knowledge to play KP .......same as Sellar couldn't transition from ruck to KPP

OK I am FAR FAR from an expert on this but just invested last hour or so looking at the highlights of players that should be available around pick 13 and based purely on those (shit research I know) to me Venables looks like someone with the highest upside. I saw good size, I saw pace, not Charlie Cameron pace but certainly quicker than our other midfielders. I saw willingness to hunt the footy. I saw ability to read it off the ruckman's hands, and someone who stands up in tackles. Someone mentioned he is more like Brad than Matt and that is spot on. I think this kid has something. Might not be able to play in the midfield straight away but in a couple of years time with our development program could be an excellent player.

I like some aspects of Powell-Pepper's game but **** me the kid can't kick. CEY is Darren Jarman for this kid when it comes to kicking.

Barry is nice rangy type similar to Smithers but again, based purely of highlight and nothing more, Vanables seems to have more of the X factor.

I will trust Hamish to pick a great player for us here. Another Milera type talent would be nice!

I think you are correct but a club will take a punt

Only question on Venables .....he's yet another 186cm player? .......but he'll be in the bunch of possibles

Yet another?! Our tallest midfielder is Brad Crouch at 185 cms. Not counting CEY or Greenwood who are not in the team. I would be happy with yet another 186 cm player.

In old fashion terms .....we need the ol Ruck / Rover type .......Cripps / Bont

If Greenwood can step up .....then happy to have a Venables type

1. Hugh McCluggage
2. Andrew McGrath
3.Will Brodie
4. Will Setterfield
5. Jack Bowes
6. Sam Petrevski-Seton
7. Jarrod Berry
8. Tim Taranto
9. Harry Perryman
10. Oliver Florent
11. Ben Ainsworth
12. Jy Simpkin
13. Sam Powell Pepper
14. Daniel Venables
15. Jack Scrimshaw
16. Todd Marshall
17. Jordan Ridley
18. Griffin Logue
19. Josh Battle
20. Jordan Galluci
21. Shai Bolton
22. Kobe Mutch
23. Tim English
24. Brad Scheer
25. Jordan Galluci
26. Will Hayward
27. Willem Drew
28. Brennan Cox
29. Jonty Scharenberg
30. Alex Villis

Who I feel are realistic options at Pick 13 and I'd favour unless there are surprise sliders....Jarrod Berry, Oliver Florent [Go home factor?], Daniel Venables, Jy Simpkin, Sam Powell Pepper, Jordan Ridley, Jordan Gulluci, Kobe Mutch, Josh Battle, Jack Scrimshaw would all sit well enough with me. Would not be overly surprised if we pulled the trigger should Todd Marshall still be on the table, will take time but projects to be a very good KPF with further development.

For the "speculative" picks 43, 53, 67 etc, obviously any from my big board that fell through and players I've liked throughout the year most of who I feel will still be available [Ben Jarman], Myles Poholke, Ben Ronke, Pat Lipinski, Callan Wellings, Jake Pitman, Reece Piper, Zac Fisher, Mitch McCarthy, Sam Walker,Tyson Stengle, Jamie Hampton, Jackson Lee, Matt Geulfi, Kym LeBois, Michael Signorello.
Justin Reid said in 5aa they expect pick 43 to come in to about pick 37 after academy picks. I like the look of Guelfi he should still be there by the sound and maybe Poholke.
Do you think Drew could be there at 43 (37)?
Could Cedric Cox slide that far?

From his v VC game. The other thing I liked was his positioning for the 1-2.

He should also grow some more and finish 190

It was interesting listening to Jason Cripps the other night. They have people looking 2-3 years into the future and trying to spot the talent early enough ie making up drafts based on now and future.
Every club has that now. We have a full time recruiter responsible for that who would then have scouts reporting to him.

Powell-Pepper

From 2015

His kicking does seem unco. But I would ask him if he was kicking to a position as instructed or is he rushed. But otherwise seems ok.

From what i've seen on Powell-Pepper .....he seems to have the biggest upside i've seen so far

So 4 picks to date before 90 and 4 players already gone - no more delistings i'm assuming? Can we get Barlow as DFA please. Take this trade period from an F to an E-
Barlow is gone, has been a great player for Freo but no pace and can't hit the side of a barn with his disposal. Would instantly become the new whipping boy perhaps even surpassing McKay.

Pass

From his v VC game. The other thing I liked was his positioning for the 1-2.

From those highlights I like the break away pace. Like I said he is no Charlie but he is quick. Shrugs tackles on quite a few occasions there a bit like Shuey. He goes in hard but has ourside game and a bit of pace. Far from a finished product but in our development program he will develop into one hell of a player.

How does that work?

Drew never struggled in the next grade up at all, he's a dead set midfielder and in the Championships and especially the All Stars game he played down back 99% of the game, indeed in the All Stars game he played bloody back pocket........at the next level he was always played out of position in an unfamiliar role and was given zero chance to display his true wares. Surely you jest with your comparison of McCluggage to Brad Crouch? He's more a mix of Jason Akermanis/Scott Pendlebury...just pure silk and nothing like the raging bull that is Brad Crouch.
