I know people want a midfielder, but it has to be best available. There's quite a few mids around this year so maybe we can have both.

If we pick up another medium defender because he is best available we are utter ****ing morons. Utter. ****ing. Morons.

Anything other than a Midfielder would be crazy irresponsible after that dogs breakfast of a trade period

You aren't answering the question? What picks has he presided over? Lever and Milera isn't it?
Picks where he has been the boss
2012 - Siggins (had talent could not cope after 2015 events) Atkins - PSD Joyce, - rookie draft, Hartigan, Rookie B Osborn and Klaosen
2013 - Matt Crouch, Knight,- Rookie draft CC, Kelly, Battersby, Spina,
2014 - Lever, Wigg, Dear, - Rookie draft ROB, Ramsey, Wilson
2015 - Milera, Doedee, Rookie draft Hunter, Beech, - Rookie B Greenwood, Keath.

Ones in red are no longer at the club.
Yes only 3 x 1st rounders, 2 x 2nd rounders

With some F/S and no draft sanctions.

But yeah they are good too.

They have had those as well but they went through their list on On The Couch and where they picked up some of these players from was amazing, Dalhaus and Johanisen were rookies.

Ports pick swapping was good then as I expected. Probs get Hayward, where we won't be able to secure with a second.
The only way it will bite them on the bum if they have a shocker next year and we pick a Patrick Cripps at 13.

But 4 picks in the top 31 in a very strong draft will set them up in about 3 years when all their better players go.

It was creative and something I was advocating us doing but we got stuck in the Gibbs mess.

I kind of feel bad for whoever we pick at 13, because he's going to have a career hounded by Rucci writing crap about how he's the player the Crows drafted instead of trading for Bryce Gibbs. Similar to the nonsense he wrote about the McGregor / Pavlich issue (ignoring the fact that EVERY team in the comp chose somebody else instead of Pavlich at his first draft), he'll conveniently ignore the fact that it would have been this guy plus whoever we get with next year's first pick.

Sounds good now....till they pick up the next Butcher, Moore and Pittard and let Fyfe pass through..

Realistically this pick is going to be a very good player who will be playing long after Gibbs is finished so I dont think it will be negative spin. Where it will hurt is when we bow out again next year we will be reminded that Gibbs could have been the difference.

This is their one chance, if they mess these picks up they will be ****ed for years to come. They really need 3 of the 4 to be a success.

When you said most first rounders are 200 gamers, it's tightening up a bunch isn't it? I see the first rounders as good picks. One has 200 spec. Lever. Hope Matt does too. Milera too early to know. Ogilvie is rated for the last three rounds and his scouting. Must keep. 8 gone from four years also says good knowledge of early rounds but doesn't dig deep enough.

If we had those picks it would be pants down lap around the table time and I wish we did strengthen our draft position a bit more than we did once Gibbs was obviously going to fall through.

However, their recruiting department does not feel me with much confidence. Their first pick is pick 14 and looking back at their recent history with picks outside top 10, it's not exactly a great strike rate. Hamish would deliver at least 3 quality players with those numbers.

They don't need talls which next yrs draft is apparently built on. Good decision.

Agreed, imagine what we could deliver with those picks.

Bit harsh given Osborn and Klaosen were Category B Rookies, Joyce was a Trigg/Tippett legacy and no one could have foresaw the events leading to Siggins departure.

Battersby and Ramsey are hardly slouches either.

I rated Siggins. Liked the look and was sorry for his departure. Rookie picks have done well.

I think Reid on SEN last night pretty much confirmed that we will be picking a midfielder with pick 13 this year. I am very confident that whoever we pick up at 13 will be a quality player for us long term. Might even play some games in his first year.

I think pick 43 will be a lot more interesting for us. That's where Hamish will need to earn his money especially considering we game up Lyons for that pick.

Yes you expect a 1st rounder these days to be a 200 game player with all the research that goes into them.
They have only lost on Siggins out of the main draft. but when you look at the rest of the drafted players there a few that will come close to 200 games.
Including Atkins, Knights, Jury out on Dear, all picks after the 3rd round.
To me that highlights they are confidant with the main list selections and they use speculative picks with the rookies.
Rookie Draft yes they have lost 6 but also pick up Hartigan and CC both will play for a while, ROB and Kelly is wait and see

Well I expect us to freak everybody out and go for Battle or something. Tex's understudy. Big unit, rangy, could oust lynch. Lynch to midfield.

Could be a left field pick. but I reckon they go for the best Mid at 13, and look left field at 53 if it available.
Battle would be good, but they need that pure classy inside outside player with some size.

Cal Twomey said on trade week radio that next years draft class would be better than this years.

So Port have traded out of the first round next year (potentially a top 10 pick) to get a very late first round pick this year.

We did something similar back in 2014, but we were slammed by everyone for making a horrible trade, but people are now trying to talk up Port doing something similar as a "win".
