It will be their second round pick only because "they were really helpful during the investigation plus they had protocols in place. Allen and Lambert went 'rogue' so it's not the Giants fault. However the AFL will not accept any breach of the itegrity of the AFL so will penalise the Giants their second pick in the draft. Note they traded for 2 and 15 deosnt count, so they will lose pick 34"
Guess I got this wrong!

But KPF take longer to develop so you bank them as soon as you can.

People keep on bragging on about needing midfielders but the club has a greater understanding of our SANFL players and their development projections than the fans. Remember this time last year McGovern was a delistee at the end of this season but now he is in the best 22.

People have written off Milera as too slight, Hampton and Menzel. I suspect the club very much has these guys well within their planning for next year's team with another preseason under their belt.

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if we went KPF with 13 and then a midfielder at 43.

Having said that, we are not going to pick a tall just because they are tall. If we rate them as the best prospect at 13, we will pull the trigger. We have a history of going against popular opinion and Mock drafts. Last year we bid on Himmelberg when many considered it a reach and picked Doedee when everyone was asking Who?!
Yep, KPF's take longer - but our time for a premiership is in 2018/19. It could well be that, if we draft a mid this year, he contributes to that premiership push. Around that time, Tex and JJ will still be playing, so if we drafted Marshall, he wouldn't be having an impact (bar something very unexpected happening). Someone like a Venables/Berry/Brodie if he slides will be able to have an impact for us during those years, and possibly also be a difference maker - and they can also be a future star of our club (hopefully).

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't be banking on the likes of Gore/CEY/Greenwood becoming superstars overnight. I'm confident Greenwood can be a very good player, and I'm not completely writing off Gore yet, but we can't put all our eggs into the unproven, late pick basket. I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's very unlikely that Milera, Menzel and especially Hampton become full-time inside mids.

Of course we'll go with best available with pick 13 - I'm just hoping that that player isn't a tall, for the reasons I've said.

Hamish did say "trade" for needs...Draft for the future

I thought we had 6 free list spots after Shaw retired? Why is Hamish talking 4 or 5 picks. Extra rookies instead?
My guess is that they didn't remove Shaw from the list after his retirement. Possibly to prevent them from having to include his 2017 salary under the 2016 cap. Shaw's retirement came after the first List Lodgement, but before the second.

Wouldn't his salary come under injury payments and be outside the cap? Would be nice if the club would clarify how many list spots we have. Silence is deafening this off season.

I have absolutely no issues with him playing SANFL next year as long as our draftees play a good chunk of season in the AFL.

I have no doubt that given an injury free preseason, Milera will be playing AFL games consistently next year an Doedee will get a taste of it. As long as they turn into guns long term, I am very happy.
That's my point - a good chunk of season in the AFL, not all of it in the SANFL.

Also Doedee will get a taste of it? He better. He's a first round pick. If he can't start getting some games within 2 years then it's time to start worrying.

Carlton Football Club don't have the greatest history of drafting players and you wouldn't want to evaluate a players worth based on them picking him up.

Do they have any players left on their list from the 2015 or 2014 national draft?
Some bloke called Weitering I think

Edit: Nope, really deciding not to argue with you. If you are childish enough to call people 'stupid' for no reason then this isn't going to end. I come on here to read about the draft and not to engage in this sort of thing.
Haha...I love how you decide not to argue, by arguing. And then not engage, having just engaged.

Considering we're all treading water waiting for the draft, you're providing sparkling entertainment.

Yes , this is possible . Reminds me of when we were supposedly keen on brayden maynard and everyone presumed it was for our first pick and lost their sh1t when it was likely for our 2nd pick of at all

There was similar talk surrounding us being "into" Tom Cutler a couple of years back and people assumed that was with our first rounder too.

My guess is that Cox is probably well inside the top 20 on our talent list (possibly even the top 15), but it's probably reasonably likely that someone inside our top 10 will be available at our first selection.
