certainly are and I rate both Sydney and Adelaide's recruiting and the way they are happy to go against the grain

For this reason I reserve judgement because the kid has some nice traits for sure ... Be better if we had 2 picks , I'd be all for taking a slightly bigger risk
Think also because Cumming hasn't be one of the "popular" Big Footy Phantom topics .....it's when largely unknowns (or not popular) are talked about, that supporters say ......Eeerr WTF

Matching bids for all three players so early in the draft would likely mean going into some points deficit for next year.
Will GWS be allowed to go into deficit next year if they're likely to lose draft picks ?? ......there will be an AFL club revolt if GWS are not penalized

BTW off topic :$ .....all 16 NRL clubs tonight voted a "no confidence" motion in the NRL CEO (john ??)

Maybe so but if you're looking at performance metrics compared to the other invitees he falls well short

Not that doesn't mean that he won't be a better player eventually than some but it's more speculative and clubs are taking more a leap of faith in their projections

It's seems one of the country's codes has clubs with balls.

Only by supporters .....not club recruiters

BIG happenings there ......i agree, clubs not afraid to kick back .....may well happen in AFL one day too

I dont think the experts have a clue who we will pick as we would tell them jack shit.

I'm looking forward to the same old types who will confidently announce this time next year that we were always taking cumming, gallucci, Hayward, Berry Etc. And this is why we should trust their good oil this time round

If I had to guess, the first 8 picks are set in stone.

Reckon what will really shape the first and early second round, including our pick, is whether GC go with Hayward or Simpkin.

If they go with Hayward (and Syd bids on Cumming and Bowes, which are both matched), reckon Syd go with Simpkin. That means North could go with Florent, WCE could take Berry, leaving us with Brodie. It could also be that WCE takes Brodie, leaving us with Berry.

If they go with Simpkin, Syd probably goes with Brodie. North goes with Florent, WCE goes Berry, meaning we have a choice between Gallucci and Hayward.

It's seems one of the country's codes has clubs with balls.

It has desperate clubs that are not very commercial, with **** all members and who rely heavily on NRL revenue, so when the NRL propose to start to slow down the gravey train to clubs so it can put more revenue into grassroots to help combat the threat of the AFL the NRL clubs have now revolted

So if performances aren't on the board they are relying on 'gut feel' or ... ?

Surely that is a little more speculative
Just an example .....is Hayward potentially going mid first round based on his performances as a 186cm forward, or his potential midfield capabilities .....is that speculative, or part of the art of recruiting ?

I can tell you, few clubs looked at Dangerfiield as anymore than a HBF with speed but average disposal .......speculative pick, yes by supporters, as we saw on draft night on this board

Were Goodwin, Rutten, Laird speculative picks as rookies ......certainly were

You have to trust the recruiters now .......so many to choose, small differences ....they'll do their job & iam confident we'll get a beauty !!!

She has Graham going in the mid 20s. Thought he would be around well past the 2nd round.

Wigg hasn't so why is TD different? Plenty of time for them to develop still.
Wigg was not a first rounder, and anyway I have also noted elsewhere that he is starting a very long way behind Daniel. And surely for Wigg, next year is last chance saloon time

Also my point wasn't about Doedee, it's about this years pick. Now is not the time to think "let's get someone for 2018" I'd like to see the club thinking more urgently

Also while I'm here.

It's likely been mentioned already but Adelaide are red hot on Cumming and are believed likely to place a bid on him if there and no notable slider such as Will Brodie (who looks likely likely to join one of Sydney or North Melbourne).

GWS probably match the bid, but with Perryman likely being bid on by North Melbourne, GWS may be forced to think.

With McGrath expected to go pick 1 to Essendon and with GWS as a result not getting their back flanker with their first choice, that will be their reason for matching bids for Cumming. Or so I understand.

Cheers KM.

Are Sydney into him, as has been suggested by Quayle?

Can you see Cumming becoming a midfielder?
