If north are getting lyons then i reckon wel get their compensation pick for wells. Should be end of first start of second rd. 20-25.

I still expect to see David Swallow request a trade to North Melbourne away from the GCS.

Re-employing former assistant coaches is the highest priority.

Mark Bickley would be keen.

Speaking of assistants, did anything ever come from those rumblings a while back about Peter Sumich coming across to the Crows? Our season has been over for several weeks now but haven't really seen too many moves happening on the coaching front.

I thought he was coming although I have no idea. It was speculated on Fiveaa.

We are poker players these days. Don't give anything away.

Lyons is worth 15-20 - if we can't get that, we shouldn't even consider trading him.

That said, based on our apparent contract offer, we'll accept pick #69.
A first rounder ?? I like your optimism but I can't see JL being worth that. If we ended up with a pick in the mid 20s we would have done a very good deal.

Yeah, it was speculated, it sounded like it was pretty much a done deal. But here we are weeks later and nothing has happened, which is why I was wondering if either (a) it was just unfounded speculation or (b) the club and/or Sumich decided they weren't interested anymore after all or (c) they're just REALLY dragging things out.

.

Reference the Red Carpet. That " Everyone" is broken down into what the genders are looking at. As a woman I'm looking at the dresses, the hairstyles, shoes etc and men are possibly looking at everything else but !!

Interesting discussion with Adam Treloar the other night about his partner and Brownlow night and he revealed that she hates the attention and comments that occur because of the red carpet and if there was a way to get in without walking past the cameras she would. So he makes sure to try and stop as little as possible so that she isn't uncomfortable for too long.

But they were speculating last night. Seemed likely but who knows with our club.

Gee if we could reverse 2 trade periods we would have been a much stronger team.. 2000 -Bode and Hewitt when the picks ended up Shaun Burgoyne and Drew Petrie.
2002 - Carey and Torney for Wells, K Johnson and J Schultz

In saying that our trading has been pretty decent going right back.

If this was the case we would be in the box seat. Most affordable AFL city in the country. $400k in Adelaide goes a lot further than on the eastern seaboard or even Perth. Problem is, people don't want to come here.
I live in Perth and have a $500k mortgage in a nice house we've had for five years. If you kept my income and all other cost of living exactly the same except for housing, I'd be close to mortgage free. AFL is one of the few industries you can earn the same income as interstate yet have very low cost of living.

Amazed footballers aren't jumping at the chance to set themselves up for life by going to Adelaide.

Is AFC marketing itself well in enough in this regard? In all seriousness, should part of their recruiting strategy be to show wealth accumulation in Adelaide vs other states?

I've gone right back through the drafts there's barely been a glaring error, most of the super star players were taken before we even had our first pick anyway.

It's probably our trades where we lost picks that could have netted us stars if we kept them that let us down.

Kane Johnson wanted to go, so we had to let him go. Torney was a great player for us, that was the best part of that trade. As for Carey... yeah, with hindsight we should have just taken the pick from Richmond and drafted Wells or any number of other good, long term players from that draft. But at the time we'd just lost a prelim final, everybody reckoned the one thing we were lacking was a good key forward, and one of the all-time greats was available. If we hadn't gone after Carey then everybody would have complained that we didn't have a go at him.

That's still suggesting offering the same deal they're getting offered in states they'd either prefer to live in or already live in by have a bit of a 'win' by being in a more affordable city.

You offer them more than what they're being offered elsewhere and they'll seriously consider us, it's how we got Betts over the line ahead of North Melbourne. Give them a contract better then what they're being offered elsewhere and more often than not they'll take it imo.

I'm still hoping its US that are getting Wells; so we can essentially trade Lyons and a pick in the 20s
