There are always a couple of things that can motivate... opportunity and remuneration.
What if Carlton offered Patton a Boyd deal? Would he move? I think there would be plenty of guys who would know SOS , listen to his story , and be willing to back him at the "NEW" Carlton.

I think it would be pretty brave by Carlton given Patton's injury history - 2 ACLs preceded by patellar tendinitis. Plus I don't think they really have anyone that would really interest GWS anyway.

Pick 1-4 in the draft would probably do it given Patton's injury history, not that I think that this would be a good idea.

I used Patton's name to just demonstrate that it could be done , and players would move. And trading P1 would be politically dynamite but imagine a deal that would start them fresh a bit quicker than 1 player Patton , Buntine and Bugg... if GWS wanted the pick they could get it done , if Carlton wanted to be aggressive , they could get it done.
Yes , it would be risky.. No Risk , No reward.
That's one of those trades that is kinda plausible but that I wouldn't do it from either teams perspective.

Again..I agree. My point was that , to say no one will want to go to Carlton or anywhere is a little wrong , it could be made to happen.
Now a deal as mention (not suggested) would have grave risk for both sides... the downside would probably deter it from being ventured.
These days its almost to much to gamble to trade the #1

Kolo to Brisbane? What the logic in this. They need defenders? Close to his brother? Im getting a little bit over the Lions linked to pilfering our list. Easy pickings and then saying take the bottle of flat beer or we get him in the PSD. We would get bugger all for him... but if they do come hunting , considering our needs ..whats our approach. Fight . Trade for a practical but late pick which puts us back to scratch ?
Historically hard to trade with, but might be facing a need to have players on the park who are actually allowed to play! We could almost absorb a 12 month ban with Lonergan, taylor and kolo holding the fort. Could even extend Rivers for another year (cheaply) in need.
Nearing the half way mark of the season, who do we rate as our trade bait, and what could we get?
Kersten? Smedts? Murdoch? Doesn't seem to be much else on the list of value that's on the right side of 30 or otherwise injured. If we're going to be as active in the post-season as being suggested (FA aside), must have good picks in play.

Not sure if we actually need to trade anyone out, jnrburger. Well, not a forced trade, anyway. I'm not sure if I'm just helping propagate a rumour or if it's fact- I did read it on the AFL website, though- but this year's draft is said to be quite shallow. That would mean that we don't want to over the top with cleaning out the litter tray.
The definite outs have been listed a few times in this thread - and other threads- plus the moving on of injured players (HMac plus other possibilities). I have a feeling that Cooky was softening us all up for a mortal blow, with his statement about how much our LTIs were costing the club each year. (And it's no wonder, with what specialists cost these days- plus a few of the boys have been sent o/s for operations.)
That's not to say we definitely will not have any trades/delistings. I just think that the club might hold off- though if all our vets want to stay, who knows what might happen?

Apart from ongoing wada investigation what about Stanton seems to be on the outer with supporters I would rather have Dangerfield and Stanton then Henderson

No doubt I think we are only a few midfielders away from having a really solid side again and with natural progress of the young ones realistically have a shot at 2017 flag

I reckon the Johnson deal was probably pick 4 or 7 for Johnson and one of our early picks probably 14. It is a fiction to say we were offered 4 and 7. Gws have shown themselves to be a professional outfit no way they offered anything remotely like that.

The fiction of 4 and 7 comes from Misinterpreted comment from Cook here:

Brian Cook has said that GWS offered ONE TOP 10 PICK ONLY.
Then he said we might have been able to get pick 4 AND pick 7 by offering up A COUPLE OF PLAYERS....
"GREATER Western Sydney came at Geelong late in the trade period to offer a top-10 pick for matchwinner Steve Johnson.
He was in America playing golf and expecting a new baby so it barely progressed.
But in unemotional terms if the Cats had secured pick No.4 for a 31-year-old it might have advantaged their list management plans.
“I don’t think it was taken seriously by Stevie,” says Cook.
“It came as a complete surprise to us on the last day. This thing comes out of the blue and you could take advantage of it.
“But the issue with those things is you have the potential to upset your whole playing group. Some people say it would be a great opportunity to go and get (pick) 4 and 7 and let go a couple of players but you might talk to 10 players and upset them and nothing happens.
“We are not going to approach our players like that.”

When I first heard Henderson's name mentioned I though he could be a good get, but the raw numbers suggest he is somewhat injury prone, having missed 26 of the last 100 games. Hardly in Josh Cowan's league, but a quick search reveals the following:
- hip surgery prior to 2011,
- groin surgery in 2012
- quad surgery prior 2014.
Would rather we didn't go there.
