That's what I'm looking for in a close-knitted team
To me it will be one or the other moving forward and will need to bite the bullet. Buntine oozes leadership and is a class player but has concussion issues due to his exceptional courage.

Kennedy has good pace and also has bags of courage but with Williams, Haynes, shaw and Wilson I can only see room for one unless the other is ok with being a depth player

Also my very early thoughts on the 2017 OOC list

Jacob Hopper - re-sign
Dylan Shiel - re-sign
Rhys Palmer - trade
Devon smith - re-sign
Jon Patton - re-sign
Paul Ahern - trade
Jarrod Pickett - trade this offseason
Matt Kennedy - re-sign
Steve Johnson - sign as a coach
Adam Tomlinson - re-sign if best 22
Matt Buntine - depends on A.Kennedy
Josh Kelly - re-sign
Cam McCarthy - trade this offseason
Harry Himmelberg - re-sign
Zac Williams - re-sign
Matt Flynn - re-sign
Jeremy Finlayson - re-sign if best 22
Will Hoskin-Elliott - trade this offseason
Adam Kennedy - depends on buntine

What would be reasonable for Pickett or Palmer?

What's the status of Pickett's foot fracture?

I could see both being let go for not a lot just to free up cap space for the galaxy of stars the Giants are accumulating.

Neither of them would be consuming much cap space tbh

For Pickett, a late second, for Palmer a 3rd.

It's fractured.

Hmmm, had thought that pick-swap option was a possibility previously (obviously Freo posters vehemently disagreed!) - more thinking 3 & Sunshine for 7, which would be equivalent of a mid second round pick in value, to pick up Marshall when Marshall was looking a likely top 10. I would think it less useful now if we're looking for McGrath, because he'll go at pick 2 to Brisbane IMHO so pick 3 won't be much help. And swapping 3 & 5 for 2 (if we also did the Carlton trade) seems too steep a price, even if pick 19 came back - that's a 647 point premium. Pick 3 & 15 or 16 would be less useful to Brisbane, although 3 + 15 for 2 + 29 still gives them 2 first round picks in lieu of a first & a second for only losing one spot & a 176 point premium in value, and provided they are willing to forego McGrath (because they'll know presumably from the rumours that's who we're targeting) it still leaves them in front of Gold Coast ('cos they may wish to bid on Bowes). I guess there's a number of options that the GWS will have going into the trade period, and all other clubs will have their thoughts. No doubt there will be something unexpected occur!

EDIT: Mind you, any trade with Freo for pick 3 does require that they pull their heads out of their collective arses and understand what a reasonable trade is. Suggestion is pick 3 for picks 5 (from Carlton), 15 & McCarthy. That's paying 2990 points for a 2234 value pick (756 point premium) and just giving them McCarthy. We may as well just delist McCarthy - or I'd prefer give him to West Coast for a low pick. Though I can't say I'm surprised about their entitled mentality after last year's shenanigans.
Essendon are apparently getting very keen on McGrath, so pick 2 might not be enough. Pick 1 will be between McGrath and McCluggage.
If GWS are keen on McGrath, they'd need to trade for pick 1.

I understand your point. But that post was following the line of posts regarding trading with Freo regarding McCarthy & pick 3, which I see as certainly too low for McGrath. I've responded elsewhere to questions about trading with Essendon for pick 1, which I see as possible.

Personal view: If we truly are targeting McGrath, then I'd trade if Essendon accepted a reasonable swap, but I suspect they'll ask too much. Brisbane I think would be easier to trade with for pick 2 - less emotional about the aura of pick 1. In that case, I'd take whichever of McGrath or McLuggage that Essendon didn't take. If McLuggage, then I'd plan for Perryman to be Heath Shaw's replacement - I think he's closer to similarity in playing style/nouse anyway. We need to be careful about overreaching for players, and also need to ensure we don't waste value in our trades.

I'd also wonder out loud whether GWS is silly enough to make obvious their target, or whether they could be running a smokescreen for their real target. In which case pick 2 or 3 might actually be adequate. Something to think about.

Yeah it does strike me as odd that we have apparently announced to the footy world our intentions so early.

Essendon are keeping pick 1 and taking McGrath, Dodoro just playing his usual games.

If we trade up it could be for McCluggage as Lions may take Ainsworth.

We have been a bit amatuer here seemingly but I guess with specific needs and multiple clubs to deal with to jump up it was probably inevitable our intentions got out.

Seems to happen every year with us.

Hawks have stated Bruest not up for trade.
Will it be another small forward or maybe Toby and Devon have some hard work to do in the off season developing defensive pressure. Toby seems to me to his share anyway. It could work with mids resting forward helping out?

I think Toby surprised everyone.
While Bruest would be nice, it wont be the end if we dont get him.

If we do manage to obtain pick 3 and 5 after trades then what if we flip pick 5 and a future pick for Naitanui? coming off an ACL his value should be reduced and if he comes back to form then we have the most explosive and damaging ruckmen in the game to go along with our explosive and damaging midfield.

one can dream

Think WC supporters would have a strong view, if there's any light coming through the door I hope the club would try.

Post it on the D&T board. It makes about as much sense as most of the other posts there.

Note: Please do not post it on the D&T board. :(

We already have the most damaging ruckman in the afl, maybe not the most explosive but his trail of destruction is most impresssive

Apparently Bryce Gibbs has requested a trade to Adelaide. I think Adelaide's Pick 13 will be on the table if a deal is reached.

I wonder if this affects our dealings for Pick 5?

I think pick 13 plus steak knives would be about right.

The best thing afl.com.au did was introduce alerts on the app when a trade is done. No listening to trade radio for me this year thank you!

Eagles would want Lobb + a 1st rounder, 5 or 7.

Can't see that happening though and salary cap would be an issue as well.

Trading Naitanui would be like shooting Bambi in WA. Personally I would consider it but you would have to ask what damage would that cause in fracturing the Eagles playing group.

No prob we said it was a dream. I forgot Cogs was from WA. I think it's more our admiration for him as a player than any realistic hope of being able to recruit him. In this case certainly no offence was intended.

Completely understand he is no chance and would cost the world. Just love the bloke and what he can do. Would elevate our team into the stratosphere
