Drove past last night, quick glance looked like they had about 25-30 on the track...
Fantastic news good too see the numbers on the way up its a lot better then 10 to 12 they still have away to go by the sound of it and it might be a long season with a drop back to 3rd div at the end of the season but it's better then no club at all . The NFL can not afford to loose any clubs this way

Interesting to read the article from the NFL CEO on options being considered.

Frankly, any club will need at least 50 confirmed players to get a season started as injuries will inevitably cut and not having 14 players to start a reserves side in the middle of June will result in forfeits and the like (which is annoying for all concerned). As pleasing as it may appear that Reservoir have increased their training numbers threefold to 25-30, surely this will need to almost double in order for them to get the green light to compete.

The idea mooted that Rezza could go into recess for a season and re-ignite itself in 2017 as per Donvale in the EFL in 2015 is highly problematic. Donvale still had 25 listed players who played the 2014 season at very (3 week) short notice as part of an informal joint venture with Whitefriars OCFC in the VAFA. Almost all of those players continued back in the EFL the next year, and were the nucleus Donvale's return to the EFL in 2015. Whilst their reserves copped plenty of beltings, they were able to field two teams every week with the assistance of U17s who had graduated to U19 age, without fielding an U19s team last year.

I doubt Reservoir will be able to preserve its current playing group in the same manner if it can't operate as a stand alone entity in 2016. They will most likely join other NFL clubs and the chance of returning for 2017 as Reservoir players will be significantly diminished.

Still best of luck to all concerned, its a real shame the trend we are seeing in local footy with teams folding (or nearly folding) after experiencing what many see as the ultimate club success. Parkside (WRFL), Scoresby (EFL) and St Francis Xavier & South Mornington (VAFA) are all similar case scenarios.

OK so it's 3 days to Reservoirs dead line any more news on numbers I hope they get up as I don't think they will be able to rebuild the club again as they have no juniors coming through .I have a suspicion that they would loose their ground as well , I think the roosters would jump at the chance to have a third oval so close to their home ground and if not the roosters then a soccer team would love the ground and facilities .

How did Thomastown fare against Epping last week?
Went down to Thomo to watch , thomo v epping. I think epping won by a couple points. Thomo treated it like a training run. They played 5-6 youngsters. No ruckmen. No captains playing. Probably only 5 from there senior list.

confirmed?

NFL Statement - Reservoir Football Club
Friday, March 18, 2016

The Northern Football League has received confirmation from the Reservoir Football Club that it will not be fielding senior or reserves teams in season 2016.

After being advised of the club’s player shortage, the league had worked closely with Reservoir to give it every possible chance of taking its place on the field this year.

Unfortunately, the club was unable to reach the minimum number of players required to compete in the upcoming season.

NFL chief executive Peter McDougall said Reservoir withdrawing from the 2016 season was saddening for both the club and the league.

“It is with great regret that Reservoir won’t compete in the NFL in 2016, particularly after winning the Division 3 premiership last season,” McDougall said.

“The league will continue to work with the club in the hope of having it return to the field next year.”

The NFL board will convene on Monday night to determine the structure of competitions for 2016 and the effect this has on promotion and relegation at season’s end.

Reservoir Football Club juniors will continue to play in the NFL junior competition.

Such a shame.

Disappointing for the club and league.

Would the league consider scrapping division 3 and making a 15 team second division? 16 round season with a top 8 at the end.

No point in having 3 divisions with 7 in the third. There will be blowouts but thats footy.

Someone like a Banyule or South Morang playing finals in the second division would be massive for those clubs

Pretty average that sides 3 weeks from commencing have to re-look at payments and lose of gates and bar takings to accomodate the bye.

I'm still trying to work out how this happens to clubs after winning a premiership. Parkside in the WRFL were the same and just survived after the league allowed them to drop down from div1 (after promotion) to div3. In the EDFL Hadfield have lost plenty of players and you could go on & on I guess.
I understand it's a struggle these days with the number of clubs and player payments but surely if you win a premiership the place is buzzing & looking up. Is it that people are to focussed on winning during that year they forget about the future and resigning players & coaches???

Its the fact some players in lower divisions do not want to play once their team gets promoted as they know they will likely be flogged every week. Some players just want to play in easy divisions to play finals and wins flags. Not real clubmen but soft players who don't want to put in the hard yards.

Yeah Frumpy, that's common amongst some players but I see the coach and some players have moved to another league but the same division so not sure what's happened there. I understand if the coach is moving to a higher division or players going to a lower division but Resa & Glenroy are in div2. Strange... Either the club as been slow to move or some guys have just abandon ship. I would assume winning div3 would be a stepping stone for a club not the death of it.,

Turbo I agree with you winning a grand final should be the stepping stone for success. But if you only have eyes on the present then this is what happens. From people I know at reservoir that's the only thing that mattered was winning the GF and not a lot of thought on what would happen player wise and money wise if they went up. Reservoir brought the premiership I reckon they sold the farm so to speak to get it. So coaches and players saw the writing on the wall and left as they had no real attachment to the club except for the money which was going to dry up. It would have been almost impossible to find another 50k a year to compete in Div 2, it's sad to see a club go into recess but this is the second time in ten years Reservoir has had a year off I hate to say it but I don't think they will be able to ever come back I hope I am wrong on this score.

So does a club come up or div 2 just play with 7 teams and a bye each round? Either way not a great result for the league after finally getting even number of teams in each division.
It's been a 7 team Div 3 for years. Wouldn't be fair if Kilmore and Heideberg West had to compete against top Div 2 sides. It would be a farce leaving Div 2 as a 7 team comp, who gets relegated this year? Do 2 teams go up next year? I think Epping has to go up to replace reservoir they made the GF and they have recruited well enough and they have the resources to not only survive but flourish. It's not going to be an easy decision.

No team should be forced, pressured or expected to step up from div 3 to div2 to fill void by Ressa. Its unfortunate for all clubs and the Nfl and from ideal but such is life.
As for Ressa im gobsmacked by article in the leader online with the Ressa spokesperson seeming to think the issue is only money based going by the comments with no mention of a plan to get more juniors only the plan to raise more money??????WTF?Sadly I think the horse has bolted and Ressa are gone for good.I do hope im wrong.
