None of which argues against the fact that the teams he coached made it to the prelim finals for the last 2 years, winning 2 finals in each of those 2 years. So arguing that teams he coaches will never win a final is just plain stupid.

You do have valid points about their list demographics, and their need for a rebuild. I agree with all of that. But that's not the point. Your response was dumb and stupid, and now you're trying to save yourself by arguing something that was never being discussed in the first place.

You keep referring to the past when clearly my response was to the following post "I think this displays Scott's thoughts that they are unlikely to progress past week one of the finals.". What Scott has done in the past is not in contention here, my post clearly relates to the future and what he's likely to achieve...my opinion, you may wish to disagree with my analysis of Scott and North Melbourne's prospects going forward, the past is irrelevant to my original post.

Am I the only one who thinks Butcher has been completely mismanaged by Port and with a decent player development program he could've become a quality forward?

Surely Port have tried their best to improve his kicking? Some people just can't kick a footy. Butcher seems to be one of them.

Geel Horror set shot goal-kicking was embarrassing. Miles away. 1

His marking is elite unfortunately his kicking is not. Still a handful for defenders. 5
SANFL
Slotted a goal before quarter-time but radar was awry thereafter. -
Carl
Generally struggled with most things he did. Kicking action is farcical. 3
SANFL
Sprayed them wildly at times but still managed five goals. -
SANFL
1.3 return from gettable spots simply not good enough. -
SANFL
Continues to butcher set shots. Wayward with 1.3. -
SANFL
Workrate was impressive but kicking remains diabolical. -
SANFL
Two goals, two shanks and cameoed in ruck and defence. -
SANFL
Clunked some nice grabs but kicking still a mixed bag. -
SANFL
Virtually unsighted after a set-shot miss in the first 30 seconds. -
Haw
Goalkicking will prove his downfall. Subbed out in final term. 3
GCS
Typical mixed bag, nice grabs and shocking kicks for goal. 3
Frem
His teammates love him, the crowd loves him, but his kicking is ordinary. 4
SANFL
Had a genuine crack but goalkicking (2.4) was errant. -
SANFL
Kicking was all over the shop again but still finished with 3.2. -

Boutique stadium at Footy Park once some of the stands have been removed?

hahahahahahahahaha

If we win a flag anytime soon I would hate to see how bad things will get down at Alberton. They might even have to get the tarps out of retirement.

Couldn't find the membership thread...

Has it been mentioned that final audited numbers were released today? we finished with 66,572 unaudited members for 2016 and 54,307 counted by the AFL.

For the record Port's audited member number fell to where it belongs... somewhere below ours.

Does this mean that we'll see daily/weekly articles in the paper proclaiming that there is a new biggest team in town now?
No?

His kicking action is the same now as when he was drafted. His draft reports raised the kicking action but dismissed it as an impediment to a career.

He's still then drafted as a top 10 player so it CANT have been an issue.

Something has happened mentally to cause the malfunction. He's an elite contested mark.

I would give a 3rd or 4th for him in a heartbeat and give him to our outstanding KPP development team.

I think he'd be a spud anywhere tbh. I can't recall seeing a worse kicking action ever.

I agree. Tbh i think its at the point where he is lazy when it comes to technique and he is unwilling to fix it. The only reason he got a reprieve on the list this season was fear over losing Ryder. He simply is a spud. Not even a good sanfl player.

Where did these ratings come from?

They are not the Inside Football version which is far more complimentary of his season

Probably a year too late from Port, could have got something for Jay last year if they were trading in Dixon. As much as people make light of the players Port have traded in for the last few years, the ones they didn't trade out at the right time will hurt them far, far more. It has left them with too many draft picks starting in the 2nd and third rounds
How strong was the Schulz to Fremantle story?

Thought I was reading about Tex's kicking for goal there, until I noticed that those games were SANFL rather than AFL.

Places Schulz could go:

Fremantle
Brisbane
Richmond ;)

does this mean Butcher is staying on the list????
The last I heard (from someone close to him) was that he wasn't expecting a contract. Clearly he hadn't received an offer then (was a month ago), maybe they were deciding what to do with Schulz first

Yep. The bloke clearly has talent.

Mind you it's a bit stiff to blame it all on Port. Shaun McKernan had a lot of talent.

The Club is responsible for the player development, but you can have the best development in the world and for some blokes it just never clicks.

Nah, he's putrid.

This is true, some blokes have oodles of talent, it just doesn't click for them for whatever reason.

Won't be long before AO is too "Crowified" and not welcoming for Port supporters, just like FP.
That excuse was almost as bad as the one about not turning up to force changes at the club, almost. For a supporter base that sings songs about sticking together before games it's ironic that they'd allow themselves to be influenced by a little bit of AFC signage to the point it would give them reason to not attend games.

Deal was done and dusted from what I was told (by the same person who told me terms and length of Dixon's contract). This was months out from seasons end. Not sure what happened between then and trade time. Dixon happened, Schulz didn't.

Wasn't Schultz on his holiday when the deal was arranged, then was told and wasn't given a lot of time to think it over?

His old man is a footy coach. I personally don't understand how anyone who is a footy coach could let their kid kick like that. Let alone get onto an AFL list and then spend seven years on it and still hold the ball like a six year old.

It is not just his kicking. He can't read the play or position well. He moves like an Auskicker at half time. No purpose or knowledge if where he should be. Just running around chasing the action. Then occasionally he gets near to the ball and marks or stumbles into a goal.

Just a guy with low footy IQ who was great athletically and that got him through junior footy and caught the eyes of AFL recruiters.
