Thing is, I feel like if this happened last year, we'd still be blaming Burton and not Noble. Just because he's from Bris.

Ultimately it would be Noble's responsibility, but the accusation would be that he's employed the wrong bloke. It's a bit different here because this would be a core reason why Burton got the gig. Noble brought a different skillset, so had different 'strengths'.

Burton was the fitness coach last year from disastrous years at Brisbane and brought his mate from there when promoted, and who is having the problems now Brisbane or us .
So whilst as supporters we have no insight but we want coaches sacked on results so seems fair we have close look at what Burton and his mate are doing as could derail our progress quickly if not fixed or rectified promptly.
Never should question The Don but his statement 'that is footy ' seems a little off mark as these injuries e.g Brouch etc happened before even JLT games started.
Was not happy with Burtons appointment and then him passing his job onto his mate as think this occurs too much in club but we have to trust them and a review to get back on track with programme asap.

This is the problem with the jobs for the old boys club.

Not only are we not getting the very best.. we're often getting guys that are outright bad.

Out of curiosity does Burton even have any formal qualifications?

Just on Pykes 'that's footy ' statement. Ask him if DT complained pre-game about a niggle and what precautions/thoughts went into that? Because that's not ' just footy'

not sure that's the case, apart from the hammies we've been running teams off the park.

they're at least competent, they've just ****ed the balance, and at this level its a very delicate thing to get right.

Has a degree in human movement or something. Very shallow qualification when you look at the bloke he displaced.

The injuries are frustrating but there are a few silver linings. More opportunity to get games into our younger players. Also means come finals time (presuming we make them!) we'll have a bunch of players who are relatively 'fresh' in the sense that they haven't been bashed around for 22 straight weeks. If we can do all that and still keep winning games - happy days.

We said that contested ball would be a focus after the Sydney SF. So probably we have hit the weights a bit more. And obviously we are very fit. AFL would be one of the hardest games to manage given the distances run combined with the physical inside stuff. The tackling intensity alone has gone up enormously the last couple of years. But no excuses for not having world class processes and people. Questions need to be asked now.

I think the bolded is a big reason why people aren't storming down the glass doors at West Lakes

I'm not very au fait with sports science, but how does fitness advantage work in the AFL? Does the general standard of fitness creep up across the league every year? Will AFL teams in 2030 be super-fit in comparison to today? Are we eventually going to reach the limits of human fitness? Fascinating topic.
I vaguely remember reading something about this. The limits there are on the human body. Basically that you can't and will never be able to run the 100m in 0.0 seconds. Some time will need to elapse.

Improvements start out big as fitness, nutrition, technique, strength & conditiong etc approach professional levels and there are steep gains during these phases. Eg amateur footballers of the 80's compared to full time footballers.

Over time these gains get smaller and smaller til it's just incremental improvements over time. No quantum leaps which is why you get an Essendon drug saga situation.

Was only half listening but I believe Channel 7 just reported that Talia is expected to miss a month on the news update just now. Would take that. I was concerned about another McGovern situation considering the similarity in the area of the hamstring that he pinged.

It is very concerning, and could be what derails us this year. Burtons appointment didn't bother me, it was the appointment of Hass that is the worry.
as long as we don't get any more it could well be what stops us from peaking too early.

got some great guys to get back in the side over the next one to two months.

yes as long as don't keep happening as we have no spare defenders now let alone if more occur.

What I would like to know is why it seems like absolutely no updates have been given on him - almost as if the club has forgotten that he's even on the list.

Their standard update is that they are continuing to manage him cautiously! Perhaps, they are scared to tell us that he has the plague.

Have a reasonably easy draw until the bye so hopefully we can get a few more back on the park by that time and stop the current flow of injuries. We are in a good spot, big game next weekend though gotta win it
