We already have an "Injuries" thread focusing on our players and their injuries sustained during games. I thought it might be a worthwhile thing to discuss players sustaining injuries or health conditions off-field.
The format is both a news update for the general Crows fans, as well as brief discussions on relevant conditions whenever they occur.

Viral Meningitis (eg. Tom Lynch)
What is it? - A viral condition which attacks the covering layer of the brain, causing inflammation.

Symptoms?
- Headaches, drowsiness
- sensitive to light
- neck stiffness
- fevers
- nausea/vomiting
- general weakness; joint aches

This thread is not hopefully to scare people, but hopefully gives more insight into players conditions (not during games), and perhaps raise more health awareness. Anyone who has ever suffered from conditions on this thread, feel free to share your experiences or some important relevant points.
I've had it. It was excruciating and felt like my head was being sawn off. I was on a drip in hospital for a few days and plenty of pain killers.
Lots of darkness for a week or so. I eventually came good after a few weeks (as good as I could come) and have had no issues. He will make a full recovery.

Thanks for the insight on your personal experience with viral meningitis. I personally believe Lynch won't be able to play a full game of AFL football until a good full month from the onset of his symptoms. My prediction is that he'll be playing against Collingwood in Rd 19. The fact Lynch was shown to be at the game was a good sign he'll recover well.

Injury Update as of Tuesday, July 11
Tom Lynch (Viral Meningitis) – Test
Matthew Signorello (Concussion) – Test
Kyle Cheney (Hamstring) – 1 week
Ben Davis (Foot) – 1 week
Reilly O’Brien (Back) – Ongoing Assessment
Kyle Hartigan (Hamstring) – 3 – 4 weeks
Curtly Hampton (Ankle) – 5 – 7 weeks
Cam Ellis-Yolmen (Knee) – Season

Walker and Brown cleared to play. I expect that Lynch won't get up for this week. The club will play it safe and give him an extra week (and 2 less plane flights) to recover.

With the Lynch situation, "Test" is a very deceptive status. I doubt if he can train properly this week, if reports are he still has headaches. Likely proper training by next week, and still unlikely to play a full game for Rd 18 vs Geelong. I personally feel it'll be a Round 19 return for Lynch vs Collingwood.

Milera or Gooch to come in you would think. Unless Poholke or Menzel come in as longshots

Sorry if this has been posted, couldnt see it at the time..

ADELAIDE superstar Eddie Betts has been ruled out of this week's clash against Collingwood with appendicitis.

Betts was admitted to hospital on Sunday night where he had his appendix removed.

More to come.

Better now than in a months time !

will be out for a few weeks at least, whats the normal recovery on appendicitis, 4 weeks??

Depends if he had keyhole or open surgery, or whether it had ruptured... etc. Used to be a standard week in hospital, now (if keyhole) you can be home and back at work in 3 days.

Depends if it was a laparoscopic or open procedure - latter is usually due to more complications, so a month wouldn't be out of the question. If it was a lap and it was done at the start of this week, it might only be a couple of weeks so he could conceivably get up in time for the Showdown.
