6 Coffield.

Now who do we get with pick 38?

(Note this all based on watching a few highlights only, never seeing his junior football live in any way)
Well watching a few highlights of Stephenson what do you think? To me he moves so well for a tall mid. Reminds me of the bont.

Grew up in Vic, has family here and is supposedly a Collingwood supporter. Don’t think him living in WA would be a consideration tbh. Still don’t want him though.
Who cares who a player supports. Once they been drafted they become a bigger supporter than some watcher of footy.

Along with Coff, don't be surprised if we pick Bonar. Get the feeling it's tossing up between those two (obviously based on the future potential of the latter). Saints keen with 7/8 but having two picks they have less risk. I'd rather Coff.

Bonar does sound like a Hine selection.

If we pick him, let's hope you're a good judge

If we went with the general defender (with future midfield scope) in Coffield at 6 I’d be hoping for one of Toby Wooller, Harrison Petty or Oscar Clavarino at 38 to at least have another developing KP type on the list.

Way to miss the point champ.

I really like Coffield, I like Fogarty also but would rather get someone from VIC so we don't have to worry about the go home factor. Would love Uniacke but that won't happen.

Fogarty is actually from a town almost exactly in between Melbourne and Adelaide, near the SA/Vic border

We seem to have a lot of interest in small defenders. We've picked up Murray, had Paton train with us and have Quaynor on our radar next year. Does that affect the likelihood of us selecting Coffield at 6?

My thoughts exactly.

We've just overpaid to secure Murray as a running backman and Crisp showed serious ability in that position late in the season. This should be persisted with (why the hell didn't we try it earlier? Was such an obvious move).

We've got one of if not the best medium backman in the league in Howe and two very good young players who play the position in Schaz and Langdon. Goldsack still has something to offer too.

Coffield is not a small lackdown type and even if he was, we've got a likely good one in Maynard and are likely to draft Quaynor next draft.

Coffield is not a key back.

If we see Coffield as a defender, it seems we would be hurting the development of some of our most promising young players. If we think he could be special as a half back then go for it, but otherwise he does not seem to be a pressing need.

If we see Coffield as a tall classy mid in the Pendlebury mould, I'm all for it.

I'll admit that I don't watch under 18 football but from the descriptions I've seen, Fogarty, Brander and Stephenson seem the best fits, particularly Fogarty. The bloke looks like he could be phenomenal.

Yeah it's hard to get excited about a KPD isn't it.....would much rather us take one at pick 38 or even better still, pick up Collins who is probably not too dissimilar than Naughton.

If we take Brander I won't be too disappointed as I'll trust the clubs view of him but hoping we go either Coffield or Fogarty.......do people see Coffield with the ability to play as a 3rd tall defender with scope to move through the midfield?

Yes they are the names touted around at that range.

With an ounce of luck who we collect will be a real nice type.

Harrison Petty seems reasonable but both the others seem fine.

I kind of hope it doesn't colour our decision because I really like Coffield. I reckon he'd be the best half back of the lot and will slot into midfield around the time Pendles is looking to retire. So there is some good reasoning there and future planning.

But equally I reckon we need a few game changes that can hit the score board. With that in mind I reckon we might be interested in Stephenson. I'm concerned about his field kicking. But at least it's always really attacking and makes things happen. And he is also clinical in front of goal. He'd add a lot.

I like Fogarty too, i'm just not convinced he's a forward. His best footy has been as a third tall defender and through midfield. I really like him though and if he can do it forward i'm comfortable with Fogarty.

The smoky for me is Bonar. He's another x-factor type who may impact forward in his early career as a big bodied medium type. And like Coffield move midfield after an apprenticeship in another area of the ground.

Of the key position players, i'm no longer convinced. I like Balta but i'm thinking he's too much of a reach at 6. On Brander i'm not convinced in him either. He seems inconsistent and I wonder how he'll go with AFL pressure.

It makes me glad i'm not a recruiter! Tough gig that.

I reckon Coffield is more your typical half back. I see him as more of a ground level player than third tall intercept. He'd progress to midfield in time but could start from year one at half back.

Unless Cerra slips through, I hope we take Bonar.

Yep - very nervous about the Naughton talk.
His kicking reminds me of Nathan Brown...not good.

Agree. Just about all his Kick are Up and Unders and player sits there to get Smashed

Murray is NOT a Small Defender at 187/188cm. Medium Defender like Howe and Scharanberg(Though they don't have the Speed of Murray). Also Langdon and Maynard and Smith.

Doubt we would need more of Those

Yeah I disagree. Murray is a ground level player and will likely be playing on small forwards. Typical half back.

So small Defender is not on Height then?

187/88cm players can play small Dave, especially when they’ve got the speed Coffield does. Crisp plays as a small defender and he’s 190.
