I think its worth a punt if you are taking an inside mid from a team that has very good inside mids. Which is a weakness of ours. Particularly if they have some overhead ability or another string to the bow so to speak.

All the best 22 at other clubs. They filled their gaps expertly not haphazardly. They knew they were a few experienced players away from a flag. We will be filling gaps just to maintain
a 10-11 place finish for next few seasons.

We lack a couple off inside mids and a small forward.

Do we have gaps everywhere?

Port Adelaide and Carlton the two teams interested in free agent Rockliff ...probably a sign that Rockliff is not coming West .

Also Acres signed on at Saints so he definitely not arriving either .

Motlop might be a chance but I think he played footy in SA so probably wont move West .

Number of players available dwindling a little so if we go to the draft including Tim Kelly would be okay but I certainly expect to see Hartung to us at some stage in the next few weeks which would be okay if we keep Gaff and our first round pick .:)

You only become a DFA if you are not offered a contract.

So if Port offer a contract Ah Chee would have to retire and go to the draft if he was determined to move elsewhere?

Well you would hope in that instance Port wouldn't be assholes. Although with Kochie in charge who knows...

Marley Williams traded for pick 105
Aaron black traded for pick 92
Rhys palmer traded for pick 135
vardy pick 72
Lyndon Dunn + 51 for 47

Can see the ahchee trade being like those trades

Can also see it being a Wellingham 2.0. Anything is possible with our recruiters.

If he refused the offer he geta delisted just not classed as a delisted free agent. Then nominates the draft.

If we want him we will trade for him. Masten come on down.:D

Port will play hard ball with Ah Chee (retain him on their list), we aren't getting him for free if we want him.

Not so sure on that, it may well depend on how much cap they need to free up if they win the race for Rockcliff's signature.
The key to this will be if Trengrove moves on , if he doesn't their cap space may be tight.

We have two options. Go conservative by filling over some gaps and letting our stars peter out; or be a little more progressive and take a punt on picking up some gun talent in the draft over the next 2-3 years (taking a few hits early on) so our current stars can have a chance at a flag. Not interesting in another 4-5 years of mediocrity with a team that will never cut it. I'd rather we linger down the bottom of the ladder by taking a chance on some gun kids than persisting with the status quo. Need to get someone in there that can actually identify and develop talent that can take the club to flag. Look if Ah Chee is free then sure, pick him up and fill that experience gap but not at the expense of a high draft pick.

Serious question, when exactly has a team "lingering down the bottom of the ladder" actually worked?

4th rounder is fine with me but anything earlier we'll be overpaying. Not exactly confident either, but Dajesmac just pointed out he's uncontracted which is something i didn't realize, tips things in our favour.

Crows have zero top ten picks and a bunch of recycled players
That's a bit of a fallacy given they traded pick 10 for the mini-draft pick to get Brad Crouch. You could also say since Crouch was a pick #2 he is therefore a top ten pick.

While I'm on a rant I hate AFL media's use of the term 'recycled player' as if someone who was traded for was thrown on the scrapheap and another club somehow did him a favour. If you're plucking a guy who played AFL previously from second-tier obscurity, sure that's recycling. But if you're signing a free agent who wants away from his other club, or trading for a player off his first contract then the club is simply recruiting another AFL player.

The relevance of the Sydney, Carlton, Richmond, and Adelaide references is that they've been attractive to players switching clubs, and generally those looking for more opportunity. This is where WCE fall down. For some reason Fremantle is more attractive to certain players. WCE tend to end up with the comfortable 'coming home' types. Redden is probably the only player in recent history looking to better his career with us.

Pick 7-10 range isn't a guaranteed star
What about picks 7-15? Clubs have opportunity, but choose not to taken certain players. For example:

2011: Greene, Docherty, Adams, Smith
2012: 2012 was shit.
2013: Sheed, Cripps, McCarthy, Jones
2014: Duggan, Weller, Lever
2015: Curnow
